Dell just announced it's earnings and as a part of that, stated that they were cutting 10% of the worldwide workforce.  As Dell employs about 18,000 folks in the area we could see 1800 lost jobs!  Let's cross our fingers and hope that the reduction in force doesn't hit us that hard, but it could.  1800 more homes on the market in Round Rock would certiainly change the landscape of the real estate market there.  Here is the quote from the release:"As a part of this overall effort, Dell will reduce headcount by approximately 10 percent over the next 12 months. The reductions will vary across geographic regions, customer segments, and functions, and will reflect business considerations as well as local legal requirements. "While reductions in headcount are always difficult for a company, w...

It was recently announced and reported that Round Rock city is supporting the efforts of some local developers to build a $30 MM project all green. I don't mean GREEN as in the color! I mean Green as in Environmentally Friendly.Austin has been a worldwide leader in it's Green Programs and it was only a matter of time before the neighboring suburbs would catch the bug as well!As reported in the Austin Business Journal, the development already has it's first client, the Williamson County Board of REALTORS.As stated in the article, the office project will be comprised of seven individual buildings ranging from 10,500 square feet to 30,000 square feet each and is planned to hold a mixture of medical and professional office space. As I had previously written about the North Round Rock Growth...

One might wonder if nature and a subdivision could go hand in hand? I say yes as I took this picture of the longhorn next to "The Ranch at Brushy Creek" Subdivision in Round Rock Texas. There was actually a small herd of about 12-15 longhorns. "The Ranch at Brushy Creek" is a fairly new development that is surrounded by a heavily wooded ranch and a creek. In 1851 the 1st settlement in the area was along the banks of Brushy Creek. thus the settlement was named Brushy creek. Along the banks of the settlement was a distinct Round Rock, In 1854 the settlement was renamed Round Rock. David Weekly Homes starting in the $260,000 and Sq. Originally, Round Rock was not named Round Rock nor was it located where it is currently. Coincidence and fate combined to determine the location of Round Rock.  The initial settlement of Brushy (as the town was originally called) was located near the banks of Brushy Creek at the natural fording area by the round rock.  one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. In 1970 there were only 2,700 residents in this town, today there are more than 89,000 individuals calling Round Rock home.

For months, IKEA enthusiasts have been watching the construction at the intersection of IH35 and FM 1435 in Round Rock.  First, the Outlet Mall opened, to rave reviews.  But we had to wait for the real treat.  Now, as a Texan, I really have no problem driving 150 miles one way to Houston from Austin for an afternoon of lunch and shopping at IKEA and Penzeys.  But it does take a whole day there and back and can only rarely be done on the spur of the moment.  And the catalogue just isn't the same . . . really, it isn't.  But last week, finally, to great fanfare and LOTS of traffic, with the roads leading to it still under construction, IKEA finally opened.  I passed on the first day, but my husband and I couldn't resist going a couple of days later for dinner (Swedish meatballs with lingo...

In a previous article pertaining to the growth potential and future of a subdivision in Round Rock called Teravista, I stateds as one of the factors of continued growth was the medical facilities that are being built near and around this subdivision. Another NEW development will soon be underway.According to the Austin Business Journal, representatives of the La Frontera development in Round Rock say Austin Regional Clinic will move its Round Rock operations to a new 27,000-square-foot building there. San Antonio-based Koontz McCombs will construct the building, which will eventually house about 80 doctors and employees. Austin Regional Clinic's Round Rock office has been providing health care for more than 20 years. It offers same-day appointments and daytime urge...
