Have you noticed the Texas Mountain Laurel are Blooming? If you are new to this area you will definitely notice the beautiful trees or shrubs that are blooming with  purplish flowers hanging in clusters. The smell is unusual and very sweet, some say it makes you think of the penny purple bubble gum we use to buy when we were kids. The Mountain Laurel are native to this area and very hardy. They take very little water and best of all the deer will leave them alone. Therefore, this is definitely a shrub or let it grow into a tree that you will want to put into your landscape. They really take very little care. Every spring and throughout the summer they will drop pods that when open have a red, hard seed. You can scratch the surface on the concrete and ...

Being the Texan that I am, I came across some Cowboy Proverbs I thought appropriate to share being that times are a little tough. Maybe one may strike a nerve and get you to thinking about life and how far we have come and how far we have to go. I particularly like the last one "If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging." Whew! Those are some very serious words...some folks have dug in pretty deep, now they need to start climbing out and up that hill. Just remember, each day is brand new sunrise, so make each day count.                          COWBOY PROVERBS Don't judge people by their relatives. Don't interfere with something that ain't bothering you none. Nature gave us all something to fall back on, and sooner or later we all land flat on it. The quickes...

THE FINAL   THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FINAL WALK-THROUGH One of the most important processes when buying a new home or building a new home is the final inspection (walk through). it's the opportunity  to ask questions and address any cosmetic or structural issues. By now we may all have them - What is the correct way to dispose of them? Does anyone really know? Tell us please if you know.....Comal County Texas This is Interesting - They tell you what to do if you break a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) but leave you hanging exactly "where" to dispose of the CFL (Light bulb). This is something I have never thought about and decided to send this on. Whether your out showing homes, walking across the parking lot, coming out of the grocery store, inspecting a home or getting ready to go to bed at night. Think Keys & Alarm. A simple safety feature at your finger tips. I liked this reminder:PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHTNext time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain.. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when som...

Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que, Llano, Texas and now in New Braunfels, Texas (Loop 337) Cooper's engages in two practices that some consider antithetical to the state's trademark style: direct-heat cooking that's dangerously close to grilling, and saucing. But this cowboy-style barbecue spot breaks the rules proudly, cooking meat about two feet from mesquite coals and then finishing it over low heat until you step up to the outdoor pits and point to what you want: extra-thick pork chops, sirloin, or beef ribs. The mesquite flavor is what makes the BBQ, it is excellent. Cooper's in one of the best places to eat good out Texas BBQ in Texas. If you ever get over to New Braunfels (my stomping grounds) be sure to stop by and visit Cooper's.                                        ...

First item to place on your 2009 calendar is:     Regular Maintenance Home Inspection                                                                Things To Do Schedule your home inspection; whether you are buyer, seller or new home construction. This is recommended  for regular home maintenance. A professional inspector may spot some items that need attention. It's like getting your oil changed on a regular basis, or your yearly dental check or medical check-up. Your home should have a yearly inspection by a professional. Example: We just had our chimney cleaned and inspected   Why?   Regular maintenance check-up.  I didn't want to spend the $110.00 Christmas week but I did. It's part of the cost of maintaining your home. I sure would not want to deal with a house fire because I f...

I always begin to take down and put away on New Year's Day. Today is New Year's Day 2009. I have two beautiful Poinsettias, ONE LARGE AND ONE SMALL. The Ponsettias are the prettiest I have seen in a few years and I think I am going to give them a helping hand and let them live at our house.  Here is some information I wish I had when I first received my Poinsettias; this is  some information that I found on E-How that is helpful. When You First Bring Your Poinsettia HomeLight - Place it near a sunny window. South, east or west facing windows are preferable to a north facing window. Poinsettias are tropicals and will appreciate as much direct sunlight as you can provide. Heat - To keep the poinsettia in bloom as long as possible, maintain a temperature of 65 - 75 degrees F. during the da...

I recently helped a first time home buyer purchase a beautiful new home in Oak Run Subdivision in New Braunfels, Texas.  This young couple had been saving for some time and were very excited that their new purchase was such a stately home in beautiful New Braunfels.   I was so excited for them.   Because actually they got a great deal.  Being that the house was a new Perry Home, it was ready to move into!  The deals are still out there.  They got a great price from the Builder with some great incentives.  They used the Builders' Lender and received even more incentives and then they got an AWESOME interest rate.   Can you believe?  It's true.   Many people are out there thinking that this is "not the right time" to be making that investment into real estate.  I completely disagree with ...
