An Open House was held February 7th, 2009 at the Leander Train Station in Leander, Texas in the Leander TOD.  The new Swiss made trains will start their run into Austin, Texas on March 30th, 2009.  Commuters will be able to use their laptops on their commute with the Wi-Fi available on the train as well as at the Leander Station.  It will truly be amazing when the Transit Oriented development (TOD) goes verticle.  I will be wanting to want to sell my house and move there!  The TOD is a walkable, bikable, pedestrian oriented development in Leander centered around the train and bus.

The Leander Texas Commuter Rail station is having an Open House this Saturday, February 7th, 2009.  By March 30th, 2009 the new light rail will be completely and finally up and running.  It is an exciting time to live in Leander.  I feel sure that some Central Austinites will discover how affordable Leander's housing options are compared to those near downtown Austin or UT (the University of Texas).  The Mueller redevelopment area in Austin is a mixed use, green development.  Leander's TOD has many similarities to Mueller.  Leander's Transit Oriented Development will be mixed use- meaning shopping and housing together, walkable, pedestrian favoring transects with rail and bus service into Austin, Texas. Capital Metro already has a Park and Ride bus service in place with Express bus serv...

Leander is the name of one of the small communities in the northwestern area of central Texas near Lake Travis and the Highland Lakes. Leander was actually originally called Bagdad, and it was established on July 17th, 1882. The community was first established around 1845 after the original settlers were given land grants in exchange for their service in the Texas Revolution. Many of the original settlers lived in log cabins, and were subjected to Indian attacks on a regular basis. Many businesses in Bagdad, as it was then called, were established in the 1850s, and the first post office was opened in 1858, after the Texas Rangers had arrived to protect the first settlers from the Indians and their frequent attacks. The Rangers built a large fort in the 1850s which slept over sixty men, ...

Taco Bell is coming up fast at the new Gateway at Leander center on the corner of old Highway 183 and Crystal Falls Parkway in Leander.  Soon Leander residents and passers by will be chompin' those crunchy tacos and burritos washed down with a Mountain Dew or other Pepsi product!

Leander homes are definitely seeing some appreciation!  The expansion of 183, big business moving in are just some of the reasons why!  Great schools and quality of living are some other reasons!  Here is what the stats say this year.  Overall -there has been a great appreciation in Leander of residential homes.  How much appreciation of Leander homes occurred between the years 2007 and 2008 for the month of March?  The chart below shows home sale appreciation.  Active listings have increased as well as pendings from last month.  Days on the market see an over 10% increase as well.March Statistics: Active Listings 322Pending Contracts105 SOLD March 2008-67 Properties  List PriceSq Ft$/SFSales PriceLP:SP%DOM Avg $ 201,3832,116$91.70$ 194,04496.4% 80 SOLD March 2007 -104 Properties Avg $ ...

Here in Leander we are growing we have a new TOD (Transit Oriented Development) being designed and opening later this year. A strange new way to get around, a "commuter rail line" is apparently different from "light rail" allowing citizens to use the rail line to avoid the traffic. The really great part is the anchor will be like the rail station in Portland, where restaurants and shoe stores and mom and pop coffee shops are all within a few feet, residential homes on the second and third floors. Leander has tripled in size over the last 3 years, our population expectations to grow 10 fold in 10 years. The rail line will take you into Austin, to the airport, and eventually to San Antonio. It is exciting to witness a growing community, of course the news wants you to believe the markets ...

I see a battle coming!  Starbuck's is opening a store just south of Crystal Falls on old 183.  Dunkin' Donuts is opening soon in the new Lowe's center.  Who will win?  The news has been reporting sluggish sales at Starbuck's since McDonald's has started competing in the gourmet coffee trade.  I can walk to either store from where I live.  I am sure business will boom once their doors are open.  The new HEB Plus has had a store full of shoppers since opening in 2007.  look at Real Estate in Leander
