This sign was in the Benbrook Ranch neighborhood today.  The law prohibiting using cell phone use in a school zone was passed last year but not enforced because the signs weren't installed.  They are now!!!  You've been warned.  This means you can't be waiting outside the school for your kids and be talking on your cell phone.  It's against the law. 03/02/2010

We moved to Leander Texas several years ago and have not looked back. We love it here and though I am not a native Texan, I got here as quick as I could.   Why did we choose Leander?  It's home to over 22,000 people according to the city signs.   It is on the edge of Texas Hill Country which means a winery is not far away!    It's close to Austin which means that we can hear music any time we want just by going downtown.  It is affordable, has an excellent school system, and close to all the major employers in the area. For those who don't believe in the power of AR and localism,  I have a story.  My phone has been ringing but it is not what you would expect.  It's not buyers or sellers!!!  I have been blogging about the new Skatepark in my subdivision and it is now open.  Apparently this generation uses computers!!! Imagine that.  They've been googling "Leander Skatepark" and guess what?  My blog posts have been showing up all over the internet.  I've had at least 10 phone calls from teenagers who wanted directions.  I've happily given them out.  Maybe someday they will buy a house!!!  12/31/2009

The new skate park at Benbrook Ranch in Leander is now open.  I was by there this afternoon and there were lots of teenagers as well as families with small children using the facility.  The only thing that needs to be done right now is the final landscaping and something needs to be done about the drainage.  It is awfully muddy for several acres around this.  12/31/2009

For those of you who don't know me,  I love following the weather.  The climate of the Austin area brought me here.  I was told that there were 4 seasons here and they were Summer,  Feels like Summer, Almost Summer and Christmas.   Climate and Environment Austin is located on the Colorado River where the stream crosses  the Balcones escarpment,  separating the Texas  Hill Country from the Blackland  Praires to the east.  Within the City of Austin,  elevations range from 400 to 1,000 feet above sea level. On the Community Impact Newspaper for Leander,  there was a front page article entitled "Changes in TOD zoning to allow more flexibility in land use."  Since I didn't understand what TOD meant I went to the city's website and found the following information: What is the Transit Oriented Development (TOD)…. The TOD is the area in the northeast quadrant of the City, including “Old Town”, areas west of US 183, south of FM 2243, and going north, almost to the San Gabriel River. It is made up of “Transect Zones” that describe the levels of density and intensity (i.e. T1=rural to T3=suburban to T5 and T6=urban). Despite the rain,  progress is being made at the Benbrook Ranch Skate Park located in Leander Texas as the corner of Bagdad Road and Halsey Drive.   The bowls have been poured and some of the frames are being taken down.  It looks like it won't be too much longer and we will have kids skating here.  I cant wait to watch.  Too bad CapMetro rail will not be running til sometime next year.  I can envision kids riding the rail to get to this park. 10/05/2009
