The Beatles are coming to Friendswood! Well...sort of. On May 27 at 7 p.m., the City of Friendswood will present the Fab 5 Beatles Tribute Band playing at Stevenson Park, in the Gazebo. The concert is part of the city's free Summer Concerts in the Park series. I have to admit, I am a HUGE Beatles fan! I actually saw them (the real ones) in concert in 1965 at the Houston Coliseum. I still have my ticket - pictured here - and the program from the concert.  Can you believe the price to see the greatest band in history was only five dollars?  Back then, I kept a diary, and made the following entry for the page labeled August 19, 1965: "Went to see the Beatles today. John wore his famous cap." I have to admit, that's not much of a journal entry for such a momentous occasion.  I do remember t...

Tonight my husband wanted to try a new restaurant so he decided to take me to HABI ASIAN CHEF RESTAURANT located at 307 W. Parkwood, in Friendswood.  They  serve Japanese and Chinese food and have Sushi Bar! Now I am not much on sushi but many people are.  There were quite a few people at the bar enjoying the sushi. We took a table and perused the menu and selected what were going to eat. I just want to mention while the food was extremely excellent, I really enjoyed the bowl of fried rice I received.  It was flavored with some type of fish soup. It was not soupy but the flavor was EXCELLENT! The best thing is that not only do they have take out, THEY DELIVER! Not too many places on this side of the world do that. They did not serve fortune cookies...that is so yesterday! They servied c...

Just in case you were wondering...here are some interesting facts about Friendswood, Texas! Friendswood was founded in 1895 by two Quakers, or "Friends" as they are often called. The two men, Frank Jacob Brown, and Thomas Hadley Lewis named the colony Friendswood. There are two school districts in Friendswood - Friendswood ISD, and Clear Creek ISD. Both are rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. There are about 38,000 residents in Friendswood. For the first 50 years, Friendswood had a church, a school, a post office and a grocery store. That's all. Friendswood was incorporated as a city in 1960 when hundreds of NASA employees chose Friendswood as their home, and families from Houston began moving out away from the big city. Friendswood is located in two counties - Galveston Coun...

I went to the doctor today....no, I'm not sick, and I didn't go to a medical doctor. I went to the Copy Doctor! One of my favorite businesses in Friendswood is Copy Doctor. I go there for almost all of my printing and copying needs. It's so easy to email them the PDF of the color flyers for my listings, and then swing by later in the day to pick them up. I even used them to print my daughter's wedding programs, and they looked great! Copy Doctor sponsors a free-shred day every spring. They just held one a couple of weeks ago and took in over 10,000 pounds of paper! All of the shredded paper will be recycled into new products! The folks at Copy Doctor are so nice and helpful. If I'm not sure something will turn out okay, they'll run a test copy for me so I can see how it will look. Somet...

Do remember the late '60's song "Hair" by the Cowsills? It was a silly song about long hair that always made me laugh. I was reminded of that song when we were visiting Galveston with some friends last summer. We stopped in a gift shop and found these funny hairy hats in one of the stores on The Strand. My husband and our friend each bought one, and they had a great time wearing them around the island. We couldn't resist going back later on and getting some extra hats that we shared with family members. During one family get-together we even got my father-in-law to try on one of the hats, and he actually let us take his picture (but he wouldn't let me use it for this post)! We sent one to my dad and my brother for Christmas, and gave one to our new son-in-law. Everybody has had a great ...

Bob's Emporium and Antique Store in Friendswood is one of Friendswood's best-kept secrets. If you are into antiques and collectibles, you should check out Bob's Antique Store, just two miles west of Sunset on FM 2351, between Friendswood and Alvin. Bob is a retired educator who loves to collect interesting things. His shop is full of nic-nacs, pictures, antiques, glassware, and just about anything else you can think of. I like to go there when I have to stage a vacant home, because I always find good pictures and other items that will work for staging. Just today I stopped in to find some pictures for a new listing, and I found three really cool wine bottle pictures in very nice black picture frames. They were perfect for the kitchen I needed to spruce-up and get ready for showings. Bob...

The Top Seven Questions Every Short Sale Home Buyer Should Be Asking Should you buy a short sale?  Many agents will try and dissuade you from purchasing a short sale, mainly due to the large amount of time involved and the high risk of not having a successful transaction. Before we can answer that question, here are some questions you as a buyer should be asking. •1.   Do I have time? Short sales time wise are anything but "short."  They will take more time than the normal real estate transaction.  Period.  60 days is a short time in the short sale world.  Normally you're going to look more along the lines of 3-6 months.  If you're relocating from out of town and have to get your family in a home in time for school, a short sale is probably not for you. •2.   Am I prepared to be told NO...
