That the food in most restaurants considered "fine" is expensive simply doesn't fit the bill at Dallas' Royal Thai on Greenville, near Park, behind the popular World Market store. Owned by a well-known chef and his brother, I doubt you will say that you have ever been in any restaurant where there was more pride of ownership.  To begin with, the interior is beautifully and tastefully decorated.  It is spotlessly clean....spotlessly clean always! Here's how they tell their story: "Gene and Jay Potchana opened Royal Thai in July of 1992 for many reasons, but mostly their mutual love of authentic Thai food. Before then, Gene enjoyed working in management while Jay thoroughly enjoyed cooking. He spent 12 years working for others in the restaurant business before finally deciding to take the...

Earth Day, celebrated April 22, was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970. Earth Day's purpose is to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It is held annually during both spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere. In observance of Dallas' Earth Day, Verizon offers 9 tips for using technology to help you live a greener lifestyle: 1. Telecommute one day a week or once a month. Working from home using broadband connections can help reduce traffic congestion and reduce your fuel bill. 2. Recycle cell phones that are no longer used. Donating old phones to recycling programs will keep batteries out of landfills and help raise funds to assist domestic violence survivors. 3. Switch to paperless billing...

You know I was raised on the Texas coast where fresh seafood is not a luxury!  In fact when I was a kid, my mom kept a couple of pounds of fresh boiled shrimp in the refrigerator for us to snack on when we came home from school. Galveston parents weren't into the cookies and milk routine. Well, in general, Dallas couldn't have worse seafood for sale in its markets and restaurants if it tried harder!  Just awful.  And Patty and I have to have our fresh red snapper, flounder, lump crab meat and shrimp. Here's the source.  Flown in fresh several times daily.  T.J.'s Seafood on Preston Road.   BILL CHERRY, REALTORS DALLAS - HIGHLAND PARK 214 503-8563 On the Web

Many consumers today are understandably worried about their nest egg. For many of them, however, their Dallas "nest" is the best investment they can make.  Not only does owning a Dallas home help people build long-term wealth, but also it provides shelter and security for their families and fosters involvement in community life. In essence, homeownership is the cornerstone of a healthy community.    U.S. Census Bureau data shows that Dallas homeowners move less frequently than renters. This stability is important in creating strong foundations for both families and communities.  A recent NAR research study shows that Dallas homeowners are more likely to vote, volunteer time for civic events or participate in local crime prevention programs because they're invested in what happens in the...

It pays to pay on time. The No. 1 way to raise your credit score? Pay all of your obligations on time. Your payment history constitutes 35% of your credit score.  That includes library fines and parking tickets. Municipalities have become increasingly aggressive about turning over delinquent accounts to collection agencies, which will drag down your score. One late payment reported to a credit bureau can drop your score by 100 points, particularly if you had a high score. Late payments can remain on your credit report for seven years. Bankruptcies appear for 10 years. If you find an error in your credit report, ask the creditor to correct it, then notify the credit bureau by sending a certified letter and copies of documents that support your claim. If the error isn't fixed, the bureau ...

Many people look at the calendar for this week and they see holidays… Passover, Good Friday and Easter.   And others see something more ominous… the beginning of ALLERGY SEASON! I have suffered from seasonal allergies my entire life and I know that I can count on several sinus infections or bouts with hay fever each year… it’s a given.  If you are an allergy sufferer too, you know what I am talking about.  Interestingly, one thing I have never been good at is understanding the pollen count info that is presented on the evening news and how that info affects my allergies… but that is about to change! If you suffer from allergies and want more info on the allergy forecast for your area, check out Pollen.com.  This website is great!  It not only offers a pollen forecast and e-mail alerts,...

I have nothing against rocking chairs or whittling, but this Porch is all about the food!   The Porch, located at 2912 N. Henderson Avenue in Dallas is a great indoor/outdoor dining experience in the heart of the Knox/Henderson Dining and Retail distict. Offering interesting variations on traditional American cuisine, The Porch creates a dining experience that combines a hip, fun and lively atmosphere with delicious foods that make you feel at home.  That, combined with the great outdoor patio facing Henderson Avenue could definitely have been the inspiration for the restaurant’s name. Offering both lunch and dinner menus, The Porch never seems to disappoint.  The food and service levels seem always consistent.  The staff is friendly and attentive, yet not hovering.  The bar staff mix...

If you are buying Dallas real estate, you will want to know what your credit score is. Lenders look at your credit history, debt-to-income ratio and your credit score when qualifying you for a home loan. Credit scores range between 200 and 800, with scores above 620 considered desirable for obtaining a mortgage. The following factors affect your score: 1. Your payment history. Did you pay your credit card obligations on time? If they were late, then how late? Bankruptcy filing, liens, and collection activity also impact your history. 2. How much you owe.If you owe a great deal of money on numerous accounts, it can indicate that you are overextended. However, it's a good thing if you have a good proportion of balances to total credit limits. 3. The length of your credit history. In gener...
