This past weekend I was in Towne Lake and decided to take a look at the Plantation model home.    The Nederland II is a wonderfully open floorplan.  This energy-efficient one-story offers 2755 sq. ft. of living space with features you'd normally only find in a two-story home -- like a media room!   What an inviting living room!  Plantation Homes gives you an option to make this room to the right of the foyer an enclosed study.       Formal dining room boasts dramatic columns, crown moulding, chair rail.   High ceilings throughout the main living areas give an open, airy feel to the rooms!       This island kitchen definitely has the "WOW" factor!     Luxurious master bedroom with window seat The perfect "getaway" at the end of every day!      If you are thinking about moving to TOWNE LA...

Fun At The Farm OR Congratulations, Its A New Horse!!!  Meet the newest horse on my daughters ranch, his name is Flame.  He only arrived last Tuesday.  He seems perfectly content living here already.  This is Bonnet.  She was one of the first horses my Grand Daughter ever got.  She looks great with her mane braided, doesn't she?  The cool thing about this horse is that she has one brown eye and one blue one.  This is J Lo.  She was just visiting (do horses have sleepovers???).  This catfish is temporarily displaced in the horse troph because the pond is being excavated and enlarged by professionals.  It looks like it is smiling to me. These ribs were slow cooked with a spicy rub.  My son-in-law did a good job cooking them.  They were nice and meaty.  I purchased them from The Chappel Hi...

I used to live in Canyon Lakes West off of Fry Rd. in Cypress, TX. I liked the neighborhood because I knew a lot of my neighbors and they were all really great people. We were lucky to have such great neighbors, but it’s not quite the neighborhood that Bridgeland is. I road cycle around 30 to 40 miles a couple times a week through my area, so I get a good feel of what all the local neighborhoods are like. I have to say that Bridgeland is far superior to any of the neighborhoods around Cypress. Black Horse Ranch and Cypress Creek Lakes are very nice also, but still not to the level of Bridgeland. When we first moved to Cypress, we would hear rumors that Bridgeland was going bankrupt and that it was a risky place to buy. I wish we would have ignored the advice and bought there anyway. Al...

Bridgeland is a master planned community located just outside of Houston, Texas. Bridgeland is located in Cypress, Texas. Bridgeland is 20 miles outside of Houston, Texas off of Highway 290 and North of Fry Road. Bridgeland is in its early stages of development. With over 11,000 acres slated for development, only 10% of Bridgeland has been built to date. For now, residents enjoy all the world class amenities that Bridgeland has to offer. Residents of Bridgeland are also pleased that our students attend the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD), the largest recognized school district in the state of Texas. What is the Real Estate Market like in Bridgeland? Glad you asked. Bridgeland is developing better than expected. Most builders would say that they are selling homes fa...

Fifteen homes (over 2500 sq. ft. ) SOLD in the Fairfield subdivision for the month of June 2011!! Prices ranged from $175,000 up to $430,000.  Seven of these homes were new construction, two were short sales, and the other six were "regular sales" which I define as homes sold by individuals not in financial distress. Average price/sq. ft. of the short sales was $61.19.  For the new construction homes, the average price/sq. ft. was $83.46, and for the resales the average price/sq. ft. was $72.40.  There was one home with a lakeview and upgrades galore on Crooked Lake Way South that sold for $94.84/sq. ft.  It had no pool, however, it had outstanding lake views and 2 bedrooms down...which is a selling point! Average number of days on the market was 87, up from 69 days last month, but stil...

With the amazing number of homes SOLD in this beautiful community, I have divided up the FAIRFIELD market report into two parts.  The first part includes homes SOLD that were 2500 sq. ft. and under. FYI: Did you know Fairfield will have its VERY OWN MIDDLE SCHOOL within the subdivision beginning this fall, 2011? Yes, Fairfield's new Salyards Middle School is named after Dr. Cheryl Corbett Salyards, who retired from CFISD in June 2010 after 36 years in public education. Salyards will be a three-story complex with each floor hosting one grade. Pretty cool... Now, onto our market report!  For the month of June 2011, there were 11 homes SOLD in FAIRFIELD that were less than or equal to 2500 sq. ft. Four of these eleven homes were foreclosures, and their average price/sq. ft. was $60.54.  Pr...

Ten homes closed in the Fairwood subdivision for the period of 4/1/11 through 6/30/11.  Fairwood is located in the NW Houston area between Telge and Grant just south of Spring Cypress.  Excellent schools, great ammenities (a neighborhood pool, park, playground and tennis courts), mature trees, and low HOA fees make Fairwood a great place to call home! Sale prices ranged from $72,740 up to $144,000.  Those homes with the most recent upgrades received the highest price per sq. ft.  There were SIX homes which were not foreclosures of these ten sales.  The average price/ sq. ft. was $61.51.  The four remaining sales were foreclosure homes with an average price/sq. ft. of $42.29.  For more information about the Fairwood market, call Sonja Patterson with RE/MAX Realty Center!  SONJA PATTERSON...

This year has been a record breaking year in Coles Crossing!!    "Record breaking in what way??" you may ask!        Well, a home in the gated section of Coles Crossing SOLD for the highest-recorded price ever this month (June 2011) , while two months ago (April 2011), the lowest priced home on MLS record closed in Coles Crossing!  Well, on to our market report! There were nine homes which sold in Coles Crossing this past month.  Prices ranged from $159,250 all the way up to $880,000.  Coles Crossing buyers this month seem to be on the conservative side, with 3 CASH buyers, 4 utilizing CONVENTIONAL financing, and two buyers going with an FHA loan.  Average price/sq. ft. was $88.40 for those not in the gated-section.  The one home in the gated section sold for $120.91/sq. ft.  The more e...

This past weekend, the Coles Crossing Crocodiles took on the Spring-Cypress Stingrays at Klein High School.  Though the temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s, these two teams gave it their all! The final score was 376 to 274 marking the fifth win of the 2011 Coles Crossing Crocs season!  The 15-18 year old men await their next event.  It is hard to believe the swimming season is almost over!  It seems like yesterday, we were looking forward to the first practice, and now here we are with Divisionals before us.  This Saturday, June 25th at Klein High School, the Wortham Whitesharks, Fairfield Dolphins, Winchester Hurricanes, Spring Cypress Stingrays, and Coles Crossing Crocodiles will compete for the Division W1 title! Do you know about Kale?  In spite of the fact that I was raised in the restaurant business, up until a few weeks ago, Kale was a plate decoration similar to parsley.   Then my ever researching Hubby printed an article on this dark green curly vegetable.  The health benefits were impressive.  We looked for it on our next grocery run.  It is cheap!  Under a dollar buys a clump large enough for six generous portions.   Cooking it is not unlike other greens.  It just takes a little more time.  To follow will be the recipe we have been enjoying after a little experimentation.                           ---------------------------------------------------------------------------   Clean and separate the bunch of Kale. Cut the leafy part away from the stalk  (however much stalk you want to keep...

In the heated days of summer which came so quickly and became so intense this year, it is never fun to heat up ones kitchen for the evening meal.   We have been on an exhaustive search for healthy food since my illness of a few years ago.  Nothing like a little pain and misery to tempt one to make some changes.   One of the frequently prepared meals around the Janisch house is a seared Tuna with Mustard Sauce.   Tuna can be found relatively inexpensively at Cosco and HEB.  Huge slabs are not necessary as the meat is so rich.  Add this with a little squash casserole, spinach or just a salad, and you have a true gourmet meal.     1 teaspoon cajun spice mix  (you know, cayene pepper, cumin, garlic powder, curcumin, celery salt,  majorem ...or another blend you may have on hand... 1 teaspo...

We had a learning experience of the delicious variety last night.  On Jones Road not too far from FM 1960 in the Cypress area of Northwest Houston is a new Mediterranean restaurant named “Tarboosh.” It's actually located in a vacated Captain "D's" space.  If you do not know what Tarboosh  means, it is relating to a piece of headgear worn a lot in that part of the world.  Most Americans probably would call it a "Fez"..... those little cone looking hats that Shriners wear.   It has nothing to do with the food.  I really do not think there is a word that could convey what the dining experience here is like.   The food is incredible!  We feasted on a multi meat dish with beautifully grilled chicken, beef, ground beef, and veges.  These yummy s were all prepared with special spices and on...

Today we had to go walk through a large house which was under construction.   Even though Ralph used to build houses, it has been many years and many things have changed.   The thing that impressed me most today was the appreciable difference between outside and inside in a house which does not have the air conditioning system working yet.  It was about 106 outside, but inside in the entry was about 20 degrees cooler.   As I looked around, I noticed workmen placing huge bats of insulation in the ceiling and in the walls.  One of the bats was where I could read the wrapper.  It said it was R19.  It was only about ½ installed, so it stands to reason that it will be even cooler when the insulation is completely installed.   Before we left, I mentioned the phenomenal difference in temperat...

The greater NW Houston area is getting more and more interesting and flavorful places for dining pleasure.   Middle Eastern dishes have proven to be a delightful addition to our eating habits.  We are learning to cook some of these dishes because of the health benefits.  They are also just plain delicious.   One new restaurant is located in the Hobby Lobby shopping center at the corner of Jones Road and FM 1960 near Cypress and Tomball.    It was a serendipitous find.  The place is Bundu Kahn and the menu there features an array of Pakistani treats.   Both of us enjoyed a delicately flavored and perfectly grilled chicken dish which came with generous portions of freshly made Naan, cucumbers and onions plus delicious sauces.     The really lovely extra was that we got a top quality meal...
