Its official.....Cedar Park Mayor Bob Lemon signed a contract with Hicks Sports Management Group (HSG) Wednesday night for a new event center.  The groundbreaking is set for May 2008 with a scheduled  opening in October 2009.Not only will Cedar Park get a complex out of the deal -but HSG, (owners of the Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers) said it will bring its American Hockey League affiliate - the Iowa Stars - to Cedar Park and will name them the Texas Stars.According to the Hill Country News, for the past 6 years the city has tried to get an event center but were unsuccessful until Wednesday 2/20/08.The Cedar Park Event Center will cost approximately $55 million, of which $43 million will come from the city. We went shopping at Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park a couple of nights ago with all three kids in tow.  We first visited JC Penney so that my wife could pick out some clothes for her mom.  Since I was on kid duty, I watched the kids play "hide and seek" in the clothes racks and throughout the department.  I remember doing the same thing when I was little, but I didn't have any siblings, so my version basically consisted of me hiding until my mom was in a near panic looking for me, then popping out.  Surprise!  Why are there police with you, mom?They had an absolute blast, and although they were being a little loud, I did my best to restrain myself from telling them to keep it down.  It's Christmas time!  Why should I quell their joy?  I figured it was better than whining from boredom.  I gu...

Here's one for you sports or hockey fans. I recently spoke to Buffalo Sabers fan who attended the Stanley Cup finals between the Sabers and the Dallas Stars years ago. She said it had been easier and cheaper to fly from New York to Texas, and get a ticket for the games held in Dallas than to go to a game in Buffalo. On top of that, she said there were probably more Buffalo fans than Stars fans at the games in Dallas.Besides the fact that she went to the game, I can't say if any of her story is really true. I do know that it took a while for hockey to catch on in Texas and I have to admit it seems a bit out of place so far south. The new 1890 Ranch in Cedar Park has stores opening now, and wow is it impressive!  It not only looks great, but, when finished, it will be a wonderful place to walk, shop and eat.  I had the opportunity to check out the new Cinemark movie theater this past weekend and it's really lovely!  It looks like it will be surrounded by different eateries soon - and who would have thought of a large fountain in front of a movie theater!? If you're in the area, I encourage you to go check it out!  Cedar Park is going uptown!!

 I am so excited about this!  As a member of this community I am definitely looking forward to having all this terrific shopping and restaurants near by!  -With 385,000 square feet of space 1890 Ranch will open with 9% occupancy 2 p.m. next Sunday October 14. However, they will be open on Wed October 10th for limited hours to "practice" for the opening.  In fact, some places have been almost ready to open for a few weeks now.The Ranch will have one of the few Starbucks in the nation that has drive-through service. -YIPPEE!!  The Cinemark theater will have 12 screens. Super Target and Fed Ex will open, too.In front of the theater, 40,000 square feet of space has been designated for restaurant space to create an entertainment district.
