This morning a brand spanking new agent is taking her real estate license exam. She is both excited and stressed. I know everyday people all across the country are taking a license exam of one kind or another but what makes this one special is what this license will mean for her.  For years she's been in and out of bad relationships. Relationships she felt trapped in because she couldn't afford a way out. She is now taking the first step in controlling her own future and independence.  She knows just having a real estate license does not quarantee anything, she knows she will have to work hard in order to make any money but at least she is taking the first step.  She is beautiful, fun and very friendly and she deserves a chance at independence. I'm really excited for her and I know tha...

So Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) have completed installing all the new meters in our service area. These meters, known as Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), are the latest in electricity usage reading thingy's. What does all that mean? Well essentially it means that you are now completely connected to BTU in a kind of loop. BTU ---> Tower ---> YOU ---> Tower ---> BTU and so on. A big circle of communication. We are told that this will give us a more convenient way for us to monitor our electricity usage online and in real time, which is cool! It will also give BTU the heads up about electricity outages, cool, cool! There will also no longer be a need for meter reading folks to strut through our yards once a month to read the meter, another cool, cool!   But what about the downside? ...

The official rules of thanksgiving. Withholding alcohol from your guests is an official form of torture not sanctioned by the U.S. government. In-laws must be offered the opportunity to sit at the table (with their chairs facing inwards) and they must be provided with knives as well as forks (although plastic is optional). There is only one prayer at the dinner table and each praying guest is limited to one minute of thanks. Mentions of thanks regarding teenage pregnancy, evading the law or your drug dealer not getting caught will silenced with a slap. All guests are limited to one plate per person at a time. You must finish everything on your plate before going for seconds. Otherwise you will be renamed as Uncle Greedy! Unbuttoning of pants due to overeating is absolutely not permitte...

The following is a story one of my agents wrote about. Carolyn Pinson is a really great high producing agent, who has a high referral rate. She is quick witted and always tries to see the funny side in any occasion.  She just recently started blogging and I laugh every time I read her posts. To meet Carolyn is to meet a warm welcoming friend. No wonder she gets so many repeat clients and referrals. She recently set up a new word press  blog so right now there are only a couple of posts on it but given time she will be the writer to watch. Her humor is contagious and she really likes to take see the fun in a difficult occasion.  Subscribe to her blog......I promise it will be worth it. Recently my wife and I attended the ceremony for the "Crowning of the Queen "  movie  theater in historic downtown Bryan.   If you saw the old theater 2 years ago, she was in shambles. I grew up in the 50's and 60's going to movies at the old Queen and her counterpart across the street 'The Palace."  I recall seeing the very first James Bond movie at the Queen. It is refreshing to see her being brought back to life again. It was exciting when they turned on the lighted crown!

Halloween is just a couple of weeks away.  I remember dressing up as a kid and going door to door, begging for candy and threatening a "trick" if I didn't get one.  Of course, that was an empty threat because the "trick" would never happen, even at houses where no one came to the door.  Halloween isn't just for kids anymore, though.  The entire family can join in on Halloween fun in Bryan-College Station.  Since Halloween falls on a Monday this year, there are several events happening the Friday (October 28th), Saturday (October 29th) and Sunday (October 30th) beforehand.  They include: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2011Wacky, Wicked Weekend - Downtown Bryan, 5pm to 12am.  There will be both pumpkin and face-painting (5pm to 7pm), costume contests for all ages (5pm to 7pm), a scavenger hunt (5pm ...

Lake Bryan is a premier destination for hot summer days in Bryan - College Station, Texas. Complete with nearly 1,000 acres of water and almost the same amount of land, you can be sure that Lake Bryan is the hot spot for steamy Texas summer days. Not too long ago, my daughters and I, along with some friends rented an RV for the weekend and parked it at the lake under several 100+ year old oak trees that not only provided a lot of shade but also a place for campfires and BBQ's. Even though we were only 30 minutes from home, we felt like we had been dropped in another world. There is so much to do and see at Lake Bryan that we never felt the need to leave. Boating, swimming, jet skiing, relaxing by the waters edge, mountain biking, barbequing, hanging out with friends, we had it all. Lake...
