Continuing a cherished tradition with my granddaughter Beckett post-Christmas, I've witnessed her unique fashion sense and tactile preferences. At the tender age of 9, she has a knack for touching and feeling fabrics before committing to any garment.Given the challenges of buying clothes for her – often resulting in returns – I decided to maintain a tradition by gifting her post-Christmas shopping spree with Nana (mommy included). This year's Christmas surprise once again included the invitation and cold, hard cash inside the box. Last Saturday, we enjoyed a fun lunch at Flower Child at The Domain, followed by a shopping spree at Beckett's chosen stores: Nordstrom's, Zara's, and Forever 21. Beckett, armed with her counted cash, took charge of her purchases with a confident flair and she...

Our holiday season was filled with joyous anticipation as we eagerly awaited a special announcement from my grandson. The culmination of our excitement came to fruition when Trey chose a unique and intimate moment to propose to his girlfriend.Despite our knowledge of the ring purchase and Liz's upcoming birthday dinner with her parents on Friday, December 22, Trey, being the understated individual he is, opted to proceed at his own pace. Embracing his desire for a private and personal moment, we respected his wishes while brimming with enthusiasm for the impending proposal. As Christmas Eve and Christmas Day unfolded without the anticipated moment, we decided it was best to quietly temper our enthusiasm and wait patiently. However, on Thursday, December 28th, at our picturesque Mount Bon...

I've previously shared about a Christmas tradition that Geno and I adopted some 19 years ago during our travels. We stumbled upon a German custom that piqued our interest, and it involved a festive pickle ornament. Enthralled by the idea, I brought a pickle ornament back from Germany and thus began the “pickle” tradition with our grandchildren. Here's how it unfolds: After the frenzy of unwrapping presents, the grandkids leave the room while we stealthily hide the pickle ornament somewhere on the Christmas tree (we've had to get quite creative, as these kids are expert  seekers). Once hidden, the kids return to the room, and the race is on to find the pickle. The first one to locate it the pickle ornament is rewarded with the final present of the day! Despite some research revealing tha...

Our Christmas Eve tradition begins with attending one of my churches heartwarming, candlelight, Christmas Eve services, setting a joyful tone for our family celebration. I join my son and his family at the church I regularly attend, while my daughter Melissa and her family attend their church. After early attendance, this year at our respective afternoon services, we reunited at Melissa's house for a wonderful early evening of appetizers, lasagna and salad dinner, and an evening filled with games and a lively white elephant exchange. The house comes alive with the presence of all the grandkids, adding to the festive atmosphere. Laughter echoes as we all join in the merriment, creating cherished memories. The evening is capped off with an array of homemade Christmas desserts, adding a sw...

A dear friend shared this beautiful poem penned by one of her friends, which was thoughtfully included in a Christmas card back in 2017. I adore it and trust that you will too!Christmas Soon it is Christmas, a time to rejoice.Families join hands, and give thanks in one voice. On a cold winter night Jesus was born.A manager provided a place that was warm.A trio of wisemen witnessed this sight.Under a star, that lit up the night. Our savor has come, the wisemen did say.On this special night, on this special day.The darkest abyss, will be pierced by his light.Hold onto his words,, hold onto them tight. His spirit has risen, a vial has been torn.Remember his life, and why he was born.Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.May your faith be your guide, and God’s love be your light.By  ...

Kathy Streib's post, "Hope," served as the catalyst for my third entry in the December challenge Acts of Kindness hosted by Dr. Paula McDonald and Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist Sharing Love & Joy This Holiday Season. In a landscape where headlines are often dominated by discouraging tales of youth escapades, it's disheartening to witness these negative stories taking the spotlight. Unfortunately, the positive narratives that have the power to bring smiles and inspire hope for our future seldom make it to the forefront. These uplifting acts of kindness, carried out by the youth, are deemed unworthy of news coverage by the powers that be. It's a missed opportunity because there are numerous heartwarming "feel-good stories" waiting to be shared and celebrated! In my recent e...

Sunday's basketball showdown for Hudson's team unfolded as yet another thrilling game! I was so proud of Hudson's hustle on the court and and the baskets he made; he was focused! The face-off against an equally formidable team reached an unprecedented level of intensity, showcasing a remarkable display of skill and determination on both sides of the court. In a heart-stopping finale, Hudson's team managed to sink the winning basket in the very last second, breaking the tie game and securing a victorious outcome with a two-point lead! While the opposing team experienced a loss, it was unmistakably clear that both teams poured their hearts into the game, delivering exceptional performances. Living here and being able to witness these exciting moments as my grandson grows up brings me so m...

We are joyously gathering to celebrate the holiday season! Super Sap's has proven to be an exceptional addition to our festivities—an unparalleled Thai dining experience that stands out as the best I've had in quite some time. The service was impeccable, and the interior and exterior décor exuded elegance. In January 2023, Saphachai Apisaksiri, a visionary restaurant entrepreneur, joined forces with his godson Znooker Apidate Thipala and business partner Vara Suksawad to bring authentic Thai cuisine to Cedar Park with the opening of Super Sap's. Znooker, familiar with some of the ladies in our group, kindly joined us for a chat. Navigating the parking situation proved unique, given the business park setting, and the entrance is in the rear, but I easily found a parking spot. The restaura...

This holiday season, I carved out some time to indulge in the delightful tradition of baking sugar cookies and taking them to Beckett and Hudson. I decided to bring the festive activity to their home one evening, seizing the opportunity as their parents headed out to their company Christmas party.Along with their annual Christmas ornaments, I brought all the necessary supplies for a cookie decorating extravaganza. They found a perfect spot on the tree for their new ornaments, and Beckett wasted no time whipping up vibrant red and green frostings, ensuring a colorful palette for our cookie creations. Her enthusiasm was contagious! Beckett, armed with a baker's frosting bag and an array of creative tips, skillfully snipped off the end after attaching one of her many decorative tips to cra...

Last night's basketball game for my grandson Hudson's team was an absolute thrill! The match against their rival team was incredibly intense, with both sides being evenly matched. The game ended up tied, leading to an Adrenaline-charged overtime.     Although the opposing team emerged victorious (by 3 points), it was evident that both teams gave their all and played exceptionally well! Living here and being able to witness these exciting moments as my grandson grows up brings me so much joy!“Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is.” Vince Lombardi“Sportsmanship for me is when a guy walks off the court and you really can't tell whether he won or lost, when he carries himself with pride either way."  Jim Courier

This is my second entry in this month’s challenge Acts of Kindness | Sharing Love & Joy This Holiday Season hosted by Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist and Dr. Paula McDonald This week, we took a moment to reflect on the memory of a dear friend and one of my former assistants who played a crucial role in my businesses and contributed significantly to our office culture. Kathy Walker, who worked for me over 10 years in the late 1900s, passed away. Kathy was universally loved, always eager to lend a helping hand in the office or anywhere! She was a character and we all loved her enthusiasm for life! She was a devoted Longhorn fan, loved New Year's Eve with her hubby George and always had the best costumes for Halloween! She use to join in our girls' Christmas party until the on...

This is my first entry into the December Active Rain Challenge on Acts of Kindness sponsored by Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist and Dr. Paula McDonald. As the holiday season unfolds, I've been on a mission to make Christmas brighter for children who may not have the same festive experiences as some. It's been a heartwarming journey, and I'm excited to share the joy I've been able to spread. This year, I've had the pleasure of contributing to four incredible organizations dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. One such organization is The Center for Child Protection, which holds a special place in my heart as it was dear to my friend's deceased brother. Through The John Lockhart Foundation, established in his memory, they have donated money, time, and pres...
