In the midst of all the budget woes, there's been a spot of good news for Southwest Austin residents in Lantana, Travis Country West, Covered Bridge, and Loma Vista - the city is moving forward with a $5.5 million road and traffic improvement in the oft-congested Oak Hill "Y" that connects Highways 290 and 71.  A March 3rd article in Community Impact described the changes as a redesign of traffic flow to eliminate left turns in some areas by pass-through turning lanes, median U-turn installations, and changing signal times to help reduce wait times.  The net result of the changes should reduce delays by as much as 50% during peak hours if drivers are in the flow of traffic. For more information, please read the full article here.

So, I wrote about water fountains, the value of them, the multipurpose uses we find for them, the ups and downs of water features in landscaping of real estate.  And, then....this week....my waterfountain DIED!!!  Truly, it just quit working!  Somehow, I think it heard that I was laughing about our America's cultural interest in water features and suddenly, it just decided to teach me a lesson.  So, after some digging (literally) to determine the problem, it seems that my pump is fried and I need a new one.  Oh, well....I could have more significant problems, eh?!  Perhaps the drought in Austin should have been the sign not to use my waterfountain....I just felt badly for the wildlife - they come and drink from my fountain in the and I worry about them being without water in this hot 10...
