Fathers Day will be on us soon enough. My dad is still alive and for that I am soooo grateful! Thank you Jesus! I want to write a bit about my other father. That would be my father-in-law, J. F. Sutton. He passed away in 1999 from a heart attack. He had had five by passes fourteen years prior to the attack. They say bypasses only last for thirteen years. I guess he fooled them. His passing away was kind of tragic. The community he lived in is surround by rail roads and there is only one un-obstructed way in and out if the trains are passing. Well his body decided to give out at a time when the longest train decided to pull through the city and stop. The ambulance on it's way back from the hospital was caught on the wrong side of the tracks. My son, only 12 years old at the time adminste...

Sonic Post 2  Well I wrote a post about the Alvin Sonic Drive in closing down for two or three months. It is going to be torn down and on the very site a new modernized Sonic will be constructed. As you can see above they have completely torn out the old drive way up to the Apron Drive Entrance. The owner told me that he was going to leave the most south side parking slots since that was so new to begin with. I see he took our caution not to tear up the Apron Drive Entrance as TxDOT may not let him have that entrance after the fact. They don't like dive ways to be too close together and somethimes makes business' share driveways. Yes there were a couple of back hoes and one roller...They appear to hit it hard and heavy come Monday morning. Stay tune for more pictures as the work progres...

The SONIC DRIVE IN located on Gordon Street in Alvin will be closing it's doors May 31st to undergo a total renovation. The entire building will be demolished to the ground and a new modern SONIC DRIVE IN  will be constructed in it's place. The new plans show that there will be parking spaces for people who like to drive Dually Trucks a Plus for those drivers. I am told that these parking space will not have a canopy to shield from the sun. BAD-BAD! I for one will miss the old building but will not miss almost ripping off the menu board each time I am in Alvin at that fast food place. My SUV barely fits in the slot... I am sure everyone in Alvin will be excited to be served in a new building....if you are addicted to Sonic and Lime-Aide drinks you'd better go get your fix very soon!   I...

Many people who live in and around Alvin love to eat at JADE GARDEN located at 2625 South Loop 35. If you love this resturant you had better hurry up and go eat there because they will be closing down to go on vacation to Hong Kong. They will be close May 31 through July 10th. Now that is a long time to go with out any Chinesse food from Jade Garden! We went and ordered to go, since we were on the go and he broke the sad news to us. So we will have to eat there at lease one more time before they leave on vacation!

Everything takes TEAM WORK. You may think that it does not, that you and you alone have accomplished what you have. But I beg to differ. Yes we do a lot of things on our own, but not by ourselves. Someone in your life, someone you know, some greater power has helped you to the place you are today. Your mom and dad met through a friend = TEAM WORK Mom and dad got married = TEAM WORK They conceived you = TEAM WORK They taught you how to talk, walk, and go potty = TEAM WORK They sent you to school = TEAM WORK They most certainly paid part of your college = TEAM WORK You entered into Real Estate = TEAM WORK Other agents did help you some = TEAM WORK You in turn will help another Realtor = TEAM WORK I guess the point I am trying to make is you don't have to do anything by yourself. Some one ...

Today I woke up to a cold front that came into the area! Yeah! It was 90+ degrees yesterday and so hot, hot, hot! My SUV's air condition has been on the blink. It cools enough but when it gets into the 90's; ain't no way it is going to work. So I called my SUV Doctor Frank... He is so good to me...he said no worries,,,he will come pick up my truck from my job on Monday and bring it back when he is finished with it! How is that for curb service... He makes me feel like I am filthy rich or royalty. LOL This is the kind of service I deliver to all my clients with whom I deal. Last Saturday, Alvin's Kiwanis Club had their annual Crawfest! It was great! There were vendors, carnival rides, car show, and crawfish! We all ate our fill and walked and walked, talked and talked!   So many people were there having a good time. Enjoy the festival through my pictures. Not ice cream...   Alvin a great place to buy or sell a home. Call, email, or contact me by clicking on the links below.

Strawberry Pie  Guys I can safely say that I am in love with a new flavor of pie...it is STRAWBERRY PIE. This pie was made from fresh strawberries grown on Froberg's Farm in Alvin. The berries were huge and sweetly delicious. I had never had strawberry pie; but I told my husband to pick which ever pie he wanted and he got one. My friend, Sherry Wolf's mother, is Alvin's own Pie Lady and she makes a mean pie. She said that this was a new pie she was trying out and said it was really good. My husband was sold. She makes pies in her home and sells them. It keeps her busy in her retirement. And was it ever good! We came home and put a little of Blue Bell's Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream on top and it was a goner! I think there is only one slice left and we purchased it Saturday at the Crawfest!...

There will be many vendor booths set up selling up all kinds of goodies and I just can't wait to do some shopping. It may not be too late for a booth if you wish to rent a one. Check out the info below and see what all is going on. I hope I see you at my right or left elbow with your 1/2 gallon of Crawfish at lunch time!   Crawfest & Shrimp Boil April 30, 2011National Oak Park - Alvin, Texas Kiwanis Club of AlvinThe Crawfest is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Alvin. North Pointe Trails in Alvin is the newest Subdivision being constructed. The builder Grand View Builders has several products to offer the new home buyer. Below is a picture of the model home.  What I noticed the most and this is how it should be...is that one thing should lead you to the next thing. In this case the beautifully landscaped front yard leads your eye to the house. This in turn leads your to the glass and wroght iron door. As you enter the home the formal dining room will be on your left. This dining room is an open concept dining room / eat in kitchen.   The kitchen has all stainless steel appliances and cermac flooring. I particularly like the back splash ceramic tiling above the sink area. Fom this family room view you can see the pass through to the kitchen. Below is ...

In my efforts to locate the perfect gift for my latest purchasing client, I ran across a pottery business located on Highway 35 between Pearland and Alvin. They have a variety of pottery products.  I was like a kid in a candy store...there were pots from very little ones to very big ones! All the pots were in multiple colors and some were painted in a variety of colors!   I had a very hard time chosing just a gift for my client. They also had a variety of lizards and other animals to hang from your patio walls.  There was so much to look at that I just noticed that there is a water jug at the bottom center of the picture above! The sign reads "Mi Casa es Mi Casa" which means "my house is my house" LOL! That is Hispanic humor!   Additionally, they had a variety of lawn art too.... I real...

Want to learn a little about vegetable gardening, and see some beautiful gardens at the same time? Check out the Alvin Area Garden Tour.   The Annual Alvin Area Garden Tour will be held this coming Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The theme of this year's tour is vegetable/fruit gardening, but the private gardens on the tour offer much more. The tour is sponsored by the Alvin Museum Society and the Alvin Garden Club, with proceeds from the tour and plant sale funding maintenance of the Marguerite Rogers House Museum in Alvin. A good place to start the tour and purchase your ticket is at the Marguerite Rogers House Museum at 113 E. Dumble Street. There you will find a plant sale and needlework exhibit. There are three private gardens on the tour this year. The fi...

Alvin has some awesome Oak Trees. Sadly they have lost over two thirds during the last two big hurricanes. The one in 1983 Hurricane Alicia, came through and took out at least half of the trees.   The Tree pictured above is located in one of Alvin's most desirable Subdivisions FOREST HEIGHTS. The Tree Below is in Alvin No1 Subdivision. You will find this tree on the corner of W Blum and Taylor. There are many trees on Blum but this is the only one I have a photo of. I was wrong the picture below is seen in the above picture on the corner next to the town homes. I can safely say that most people will buy a home because of the trees located on that property. Of course if the home is really bad then even a tree can't save it. Alvin was a small town community that is now growing up. It curr...

The city of Alvin, Texas has its roots in cattle ranching. Originally just a brief stop along the railroad line, Alvin has seen its days as a cattle town, strawberry farming town, and rice farming town. Now, many of its residents work in the Clear Lake or Medical Center areas, but make their home in this sleepy suburb south of Houston.  Alvin was named for Alvin Morgan, who was hired by the Santa Fe Railroad in 1872 to oversee the cattle holding and loading pens and the large water tank that were situated near the railroad. Morgan opened a general store and a saloon, and throughout the 1880's, cattlemen settled in the area. When the population reached 49, the citizens named the town Morgan, after its founder. However, they soon discovered that there was already a Morgan, Texas, so they ...

In about 1997 my father in law.... John Frank Sutton had his first notable heart attack. It was just before Christmas and he was scheduled to come out of the hospital the day before Christmas and he needed to be resting most of the time. This meant that he would not be cooking the Christmas Turkey and Ham...my mother in law would help and so would we, but it would worry him that we all had to do so much. So I stepped forward and suggested since we had all had our fair share of Turkey and Ham since Thanks Giving why not just have sandwiches for Christmas Dinner... Being the OutLaw the room went quite...all heads turned to me with eyebrows raised high up on forehead and near the hair lines.... WAIT...WAIT I said I mean like deli sandwiches with different slices of meats and cheeses and a ...

I just could not let go of this one.... The second best thing about a tree is it's ornaments. Below are some of my favorites. I didn't get all of the little lace angle shown below; however the main focus was the white delicate glass ornament below it. The purple ornament is just a foam ball with purple glitter but they are very pretty and the picture just doesn't capture the beauty of it. My most favorite is the one below. Here again this is a foam ball that was painted white and then clear material was added and glued to the ornament. I purchased these at Foley's Bay Brook at least 10 years ago for $4 dollars each...I got six and have lost three...where they are I have not a clue. I think we threw away a box of ornaments last year. Below is a section of our tree... You can clearly see ...

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the tree. For about 8 years we have used an artificial tree. They are nice and over time they pay for them selves. HOWEVER, my favorite is a fresh heavily flocked tree.... (ok I know some of you will need definition) We southern Texans can get our tree artifically flocked (sprayed on snow). However, a tree can not be flocked if the humidity is not right. The stuff just won't stick. Last year our artificial tree died.... YEAH! This year we went out to look for a heavily flocked Christmas Tree but I could not find them anywhere. I was told that it was too expensive to flock them and make a profit. So I decided to flock ours. 16 cans of flock later and the tree still looked like it was lighted dusted with white powder. Below is a picture of our ...

Below is a picture of our fireplace....       Have you made the decision to buy a home yet? You may want to consider one with a fireplace to enjoy on cold winter nights...it's romantic too!
