This years Sparta Veterans day parade was clear and sunny Sky's. The streets where lined with several Sparta residents paying tribute to our Veterans - local, afar, present and past. Some of the many parade participants - local military, ROTC, White county high school band and students, Sparta humane society, Sparta and surrounding area fire and police departments, antique cars and residents. One of my favorite Tennessee hiking destinations for me and my furry kid (Merlot) is Burgess Falls state park located in Sparta, TN.  As the park is only a short drive this is a monthly hiking adventure that always seems to have something new to experience with each season. The main waterfall lined trail is 1.5 miles which includes several area's to stop and take in bluffs, streams, soaring birds, wooden bridges, rock formations and all the splendid surrounding nature. When in Tennessee or if you are a resident - I highly recommend Burgess Falls State Park. Burgess Falls location and further information. My children and I hiked the Virgin Falls trail about 6 weeks ago.  I had never hiked this trail before and did not know what to expect.  It is located in White County, just across the county line from Cumberland County.  It is located within Scotts Gulf and adjacent to Bridgestone Firestone Cenennial Wilderness.  I had done some research on the internet about the trail.  The state site said 5-8 hours for the hike.  We did it in 5 hours.  Partly because it was afternoon before we got started and I did not want to be on a trail in the dark with 3 kids.  It is a beautiful hike but not a leisurely walk.  We did not take enough water and it was very hot.  The only potty on this trail is behind a tree or bush.  Tennessee is 16" behind on rain and this area has been affected as well.  There sh... 09/08/2007
