I read the Tennessean every day, but a day late.   My husband gets the daily paper. He reads it throughout the day and then puts it into MY "pile". Occasionally he also puts some other publication in the pile.   Last week, the"other" publication was the AARP newspaper.   The cover had OUTRAGEOUS written across the top. Under that was a list of stories that were true and also truly outrageous. One such story was about a widow, in Ohio (I think). Her husband has passed away and she used the life insurance money to pay off the mortgage on their home, like he had wanted.   With no Mortgage company involved, she was responsible for paying the property taxes. One year, she paid the taxes late. In full, but late. The tax assessors office never indicated that there was  a  late fee. The fol...

Vanderbilt WINS National Championship!   Lots of hard work and great coaching paid off Wednesday night as the Commodores beat Virginia, the expected winner, in the third night of the College World Series playoffs.   Carson Fulmer started the evening off with five innings of one-hit shutout ball and 103 pitches. He was relieved by Hayden Stone, a freshman, who did not let us down! In the 8th inning at 2-2 John Norwood hit the only home run of the evening. It became the became the game winning run.   This is Vanderbilt's  first NCAA championship in a men's sport in the school's long history!   This incredible team was Vandy's first intercollegiate team of any sport dating back to 1886. It's a great day in Nashville, especially if you're a Vandy Fan!
