Charming Monterey, Tennessee When it comes to quaint small towns this Tennessee mountain top village stands out from the rest. With a population of about 3,000 Monterey is able to keep the small town atmosphere while her location makes it convenient to visit neighboring Nashville, Knoxville, Crossville and Cookeville. A bit of Monterey history = During the beginning of the twentieth century, Monterey was a resort town that boasted seven hotels and drew summer people who came to enjoy the bluff views, cool temperatures and mountain scenery. The Standing Stone was a 13-foot (4.0 m)-tall rock that once stood upright on a sandstone ledge in the area. It was the legendary boundary between Cherokee and Shawnee territory and marked the Cherokee Tallonteeskee Trail. The 8-foot (2.4 m) remnant o...

Have you ever watched the t.v show Andy Griffith? Don't you just want to live there? Small town with the local gas stations and stores where everyone knows you? Safety is not a concern and the kids go to school with teachers that truly care about them and know the parents? Monterey TN is just that. It is so nice to walk into the local grocery store and be called by name. When you go into the bank and not have to show an id because they know who you are. Neighbors bring you veggies from their gardens or invite you over for some fresh baked goodies. Living in Monterey is like living in a dfferent time. I am so thankful that I can raise my family here. Taxes are very low and the cost of living is also. Plus the mountain views are so amazing! This is the most beautiful area. I would not wan...

I know we are a very busy. Some days it is hard to find enough time to even grab lunch. This summer I spent each afternoon of one week at the housing projects. I had a few youth from our church to help me out. We brought the kids lunch, made a craft, played games, one day I asked our local fire department to come spray us down at the end of our day. We had so much fun spending time with the kids. We just showed up, knocked on doors and told them we were there to play and they came out for the afternoon. One little boy stands out in my mind. He told me that his mom said he needed to go outside she was tired of looking at him. We live in our own little perfect world and don't even pay attention to the hurting children around us. At the end of the day we would deliver them home. We go back...

This summer has been so much fun for me. I have volunteered in many ways in my small town. I was apart of a teen group at our church called REFUEL. It is a week when the teenagers in our town get together and make a difference in our town.We team them up with one adult leader per group. They do yard work, clean houses, build porches and wheel chair ramps, paint houses, and what ever need to be done at our senior citizens homes. They also spent time at our local nursing homes. One group dressed up as Dolly and Porter and did concerts there. It was a lot of fun This is a great way for them to show the older generation that they care. We have done this for several years now. It has been a great success. We raise the money for supplies and the kids provide the work. It does not cost the sen...

Monterey is a small town in Middle Tennessee. I often compare it to Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show. Small town with a diner that you will see everyone in at lunch time. A local drug store with faces you know. You are known by name when you walk in the bank. High School sports are very important to everyone. Even people who do not have kids that play ball will be at the game supporting our town on Friday nights. Monterey has a lot to offer! Our crime rate is very low. Actually everything that happens is in our local paper. Every police report will be in there each week. lol Guess you better not get a ticket here or everyone will know.  Check out the local newss paper at www.hilltopexpress.com You can also see all the Real Estate for sale here by checking out my web site at http://she...

Sometimes we get so busy with everything we have to accomplish that we don't spend the quality time we should with those we love most. I have had my nose in a computer all evening. My 3 year old was asking for attention by climbing in my lap. So I had to just take a few minutes and spend some time with her. We made cup cakes! We spent quite a long time measuring and stirring and making a big mess!! Now she is happy as can be eating cup cakes while I write this blog. Take a few minutes each day for cup cakes!

Cumberland Cove is the best subdivision on the plateau. It offers home sites from 1-9 acres with mature hardwood trees. Each home site is unique with trees, creeks, bluffs, rock outcroppings and flat to sloping. There is a site for everyone. Today there are over 400 homes in this subdivision, but you would never know it. It is very private and peaceful. Cumberland Cove is  surrounded by private woodlands and farmland that preserve the natural beauty of the area. The Cove has some restrictions that keeps the area's beauty and does not compromise the seclusion you have purchased. Cumberland Cove is only 20 miles from Cookeville ,Tennessee and only 10 miles from Crossville Tennessee. The Hospital facilities are of the best in Tennessee. Local farmers sell their produce on the country roads....
