Affordable Living In Cumberland Cove When my husband and I decided to move to Cumberland Cove from Miami, Florida earlier this year, we were attracted by the peaceful natural beauty of the Cove and the low cost of living.  What we found when we got settled in was that there are so many other benefits to living in Middle Tennessee.  From the friendly people and the great centralized location to the many festivals, fairs and monthly events -- we are exceedingly happy in our new home in Cumberland Cove! We started dreaming about living on the Cumberland Plateau more than ten years ago when we bought a piece of land in Cumberland Lakes.  But when friends from Florida decided to build a home in Cumberland Cove this past year, we decided to tak...

Native American Music Concert This past weekend in Monterey, Tennessee at the historical Standing Stone, the Monterey Standing Stone Historical Society hosted a major event of Native American heritage. This is a favorite of the local community for its history of this area.   Many people from across the state came and participated in this year's festivities.  I was not able to attend but a few of my clients agreed that this was very memorable and they will be returning next year along with the years to follow.  I know this area is rich with Native American history and this concert only made it more important and widely known. There are always things going on in the Monterey, Tennessee area.  Give  Pam Dunn a call today for more information about this great area!

The History of the Standing Stone The Origin of Standing Stone began back when the Native Americans were present in the area.  There are rumors of which tribes inhabited the area-Cherokee,  Chicksaw, Choctaw, Creek, Shawnee, and Lakota-but the story of the Standing Stone is nothing shy of a rumor as well.  With the many tribes present, there will be different legends along with many translations.  One thing is for sure; the Standing Stone was a sacred place for many and it served as a sanctuary for many tribal benefits. According to an old Cherokee legend, the Standing Stone represented a sitting bear.  The legend has it that a young hunter went out in the woods to find food for the tribe.  While on this journey, a storm came and he needed to seek shelter.  This storm would not pass unt...

The History of the Cherokee People Monterey, Tennessee is an important place for Cherokee culture in the Tennessee valley.  It was estimated that the primary settling place for the Cherokees was in the southern Appalachian area and they specifically lived throughout the Cumberland Valley of Tennessee. In 1674, the population of the Cherokee tribe was estimated around 50,000 people.  The Cherokee were originally called the Aniyunwiya tribe but later changed their name to the Cherokee's, which means "people of a different speech".  They lived in tribes of about 45 homes and a grand meeting place.  This is where most of the town meetings took place and other major events that dealt with the community.  Around 1629, the Europeans were making their way into Monterey and were looking for gold...

Do you love where you live?? I must say this quirky little town really amazes me. when my husband and I first moved to my home town he was a little concerned to say the least. It is a very small town. Sometimes being an outsider moving to a town like this can be a little hard. Fast forward a year and he has such a love for this town and the people in it. He is actually more well known here than I am. lol He writes an article in our local paper, is a volunteer coach on the high school football team, and very involved in may areas of the community. One morning around Thanksgiving we got a call that a local family had lost their home in a fire that night before. They had no renters insurance at all. He went to check on them that morning. By lunch he called me and said that they were still ...

A few weeks ago, the 20+ retired police officers who live in Cumberland Cove on the Cumberland Plateau in Middle Tennessee went to the gun range in Cookeville and qualified for their concealed weapons permits. I understand that it was a simple process and that the ex police officers were pleased that they were permitted to carry their guns and that the process was so accomodating to them. After serving their communities throughout the U.S. for all those years, we here in Cumberland Cove are pleased to have these officers as our neighbors and friends. They deserve the peace and tranquility that is found here on the Cumberland Plateau after spending so much of their lives putting their lives on the line to protect us all.
