I live in the wonderful town of Algood, Tn. I am also the mayor of Algood. I thought  I would share a little bit of history with you about this great little town.     The Earliest Record of the Town that Became Algood is June 24, 1820.Around the turn of the century, Algood was the largest town between Knoxville and Nashville in both population and industry. At that time it was known as the "Chicken capital of the world". The Putnam County Library began in Algood. Algood was the first town in the area to get electricity. President Andrew Jackson once spent the night at White Plains near Algood when he was traveling home to The Hermitage from Washington. Remember when.... Remember when back in the day you could step outside on your front porch and hear the birds chirping, the sounds of the neighborhood children playing on a hot summers day.  Getting on your bicycle and riding up to the General Store to buy that ice cream cone!  When the police man met you in the post office and patted you on the head calling your name and greeting you with a "Good Day to you".  The air outside filled with warmth and peaceful winds. It seemed you hadn't a care in the world.  The nostalgia of that old country town is in some way where  most of us come from.  Things we will never forget but have moved on into a much busier place in our lives. Algood Tennessee is a fast growing community unique in many features.  The K-8 Algood school is one of the most popular in Putnam County or Cookeville TN area!  Now, with growth and expansion, Algood is building an elementary school right next door.  This new facility will help with minimizing classroom size and provide exceedingly better educational standard for its students.  The new Elementary School will be 110,000 square feet with media center, gym, and dining area in addition to classrooms.  It is projected to hold 600 elementary students.  This great new school is projected to be finished in 2009.   Many of Algoods Preschools are excellent in preparing your child for academic learning.  My spotlight is on Kid Kuntry Preschool located behing the Algood Fire Station downtown.  As a... 08/06/2008
