Stretching 1,415 feet across the wild and beautiful Conagree River and connecting downtown Columbia, SC to West Columbia, The Gervais Street Bridge is easily one of Columbia's most recognizable landmarks. There are ruins all along the river of bridges that came before, some were burned too slow the encroachment of Sherman's troops and some washed away by past floods.  The Gervais Street Bridge as we know it today opened in June of 1928 and was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1980.   A reinforced concrete, arched bridge, The Gervais Street Bridge at the time it was built was the widest roadway in the state of South Carolina and remained the only bridge across the Congaree River until 1953. While the bridge herself has not change much since 1928, the city around her...

Sitting on roughly 18 acres of incredibly well manicured grounds, The South Carolina State House in Columbia, SC stares out at the city from from literally the middle of Main Street as the road dead ends into the Capitol and begins again on the other side of the building.   Constructed from blue granite with her distinct front columns and massive copper dome, the South Carolina State House stands approximately 180 feet tall and 300 feet wide. Trust me when I tell you that you can see that dome from all over downtown.    There are guided walking tours of the inside of the State House that start about every 30 minutes and the inside is truly a sight to behold as well. As for me, I prefer the self guided tour of the grounds outside the State House. They are beautiful and currently full o...

Located in the heart of the town center in Lake Carolina is a beautiful green area know as Market Square. Market Square plays host to several events throughout the year, but with Spring here, next month one of my favorite events will gear up for the season. The Lake Carolina farmer's market will start in April and never disappoints. Each Thursday starting at 2pm, there will be tons of local produce, craft vendors, and food trucks lining the streets and invading the square. April is right around the corner and I can't wait to see my favorite returning vendor and any new ones we have this year.

One of my favorite past times has always been fishing. Not sure why I latched on to it the way I did, but I just love it. Luckily I live in a community with a lake and I get to sneak over to it on a regular basis. I have a handful of lures that I have simply mastered using and it doesn't really matter what kind of weather we have or what time of day it is, if there are fish nearby, I will catch one. I do indeed like to try some new lures once and a while, but I almost always revert back to tried and true methods and techniques whenever the bite is tough and I know if I just give it time, it will produce. One quick trip to any sporting goods stores will reveal an endless array of lures and baits of all sizes, shapes, and colors imaginable. And on any given day, with the right condition...

When I first started blogging here on Active Rain, I barely knew what a keyword was much less what a long tail keyword was and how to target one. But,  10 years later and I have pretty clear understanding of what I am doing.fast forward  Now, before I get too far ahead of myself, just in case there's someone reading this post that doesn't know what a long tail keyword is, let me  explain that first. A long tail keyword is simply a longer segment of keywords or phrases that is very specific. In other words, it's a set of words or a phrase that narrows the scope of a search. Rather than simply saying Homes in Northeast Columbia, SC, the scope is narrowed by additional keywords, like new construction. Then further narrowed by adding under $400,000. A long tail keyword simply l...

One of the questions I am asked on a regular basis about the lake itself in Lake Carolina is, "Do they allow boats?" Well, the answer to that is yes, you are allowed to put boats in Lake Carolina and they can be motorized boats as well.   You do have to be a resident of Lake Carolina and you do have to be a member the Lake Association, but there are two community boat docks in Lake Carolina, one on either end of the lake and few private boat docks for Harborside residents.   One boat dock in Lake Carolina is located along Lake Carolina BLVD between the main entrance and the Centennial section of the community . There is a launch next to the dock and parking available. There is also a fishing dock in that location as well.  The other boat dock in located in Sunset Park on the other end...

Of all the wonderful amenities that the ever popular Northeast Columbia, SC community of Lake Carolina has to offer, the stunning 200 acre man made lake at the heart of the neighborhood has to be the most popular.
