Known as the Ainsley Hall House when work on this Classical Revival mansion began in 1823, what we now know as the Robert Mills House, named so after it's designer, has become one of the many opportunities to walk through the history of Columbia, SC. The Robert Mills House started it's life with the intention of becoming a townhome for Ainsley and Sarah Hall. The death of Ainsley Hall and other circumstances led the home to instead live many other lives. Once the campus of three different religious institutions including Columbia Bible College and a Presbyterian Theological Seminary which was quite renown in it's day. By 1960 the home was abandoned and plans to demolish the beautiful mansion were in place.  In fact some of the bricks had already been removed from this masterpiece by 1...

I know the title itself seems like little more than shameless click bait and in a way it's meant to grab attention. But in the interest of not disappointing anyone that may have rushed onto this post looking for an honest answer to the question, I feel like I should at the very least make an effort to explain.  So what do sex and real estate have in common? Well, the likely truth is this. While the process might be a lot of fun, what most of us really want in the end is the big finish when we close the deal. While this may not be the most appropriate way to state the facts, let's face it, it got your attention and if you're honest you really can't deny what I said was true. So with all this taken into consideration, have you ever looked at basic dating advice  and thought how well tha...

Perhaps the best known and most iconic pictures that one can find of Columbia, SC these days are that of the fountain in Finlay Park. Well, it's currently shut off for repairs so I didn't take any. The truth is that the rest of the park still has a lot to offer though.   Originally dedicated in 1859 as Sidney Park, the 14 green space was mostly neglected following the Civil War. However, in 1992 the park received new life and was rededicated as Finlay Park, named after Kirkman Finlay a former Columbia, SC mayor who had a large part in revitalizing the Vista area of downtown.   Now blanketed with lush, green grass, Finlay Park which sits in the heart of downtown Columbia offers visitors a break from the asphalt and concrete that surround the area. There is a playground for the little o...

I recently had a deal that I was working, representing a buyer, and in the process of setting up inspections I sent an email with all the times and days for each appointment to the listing agent. When the market was slow, I used to be able to schedule all the inspections for the same day and close to the same time to get everything over at once, but these days with everyone being so busy, that is often times not the case. That being said, the listing agent replied that she received the message and she would contact the sellers and let me know what they had to say. I received no reply until the morning of the first round of inspections and then it was simply a text stating I was good to go for inspections but per the seller we had to leave the premises by a certain time or we would sim...

If you're anything like me, then you like to spend some time enjoying the great outdoors and fortunately here in Columbia, SC, we have a lot of places you can do just that. Whether is jogging at the Columbia Canal, hiking in Congaree National Forest, Boating on Lake Murray, or fishing in Sesquicentennial State Park, there's plenty of places get out and get going. But this time of year you're not the only one out there and this a friendly reminder to watch your step. I have already seen tons of snakes this year and Summer is just starting good. So remember to get out there and have a good time, but be careful where you put your feet.

Originally built between 1819 and 1824 the Columbia Canal stretched 3 miles in downtown Columbia, SC and served freight ships passing the head of Congaree River until the railroads came about 20 years later. In 1863 a portion of the canal was leased to the Confederate Government for use with a powder mill that was burned by Sherman in 1865 and in 1888 the canal was reconstructed to be used as a source of hydro-electricity. In 1895 the Columbia Canal provided electricity to a textile mill that became the first hydro-electrically powered textile mill in the world.  To say that there is a lot of history here would certainly be something of a colossal understatement on my part.   Now in addition to the significant history still quite visible in the older buildings throughout the grounds a...
