Saint Patrick's Day Parade- Newport RI - Saturday March 16 - 57th Annual Celebration.   Where: Parade begins at City Hall, 43 Broadway Newport RI. When: Saturday, March 16th at 11 a.m. Yes, the parade was yesterday but like all good Rhode Island Irishmen and women the festivities continue on the true Saint Patrick's Day of today.   Many a Rhode Islander finds nothing grander than to be in Newport with the men in kilts for this joyous day.  Caution note here:  the Newport police are handing out tickets to anyone caught with an open liquor bottle.     Enjoy the St. Paddy's day with respect to all and have a designated driver by your side. Newport RI Hosts America's Cup World Series 2012 Races.  Newport RI will be hosting the America's cup world series beginning this week from June 23- July 3rd in Newport Rhode Island.  Rhode Island real estate watchers are lining the shores on Narragansett Bay for this boat race. The actual practice racing begins June 26 & June 27th, June 28th with the seeding, June 29th is match racing semi-finals and eliminations, June 30th is speed trial and fleet racing and July 1st is match racing championship final and the Newport Fleet race final.  Regatta Schedule is subject to change without notice so check to make sure before you head to Newport or Beavertail in Jamestown RI to watch the races.   The Victorian Ladies Inn located at 63 Memorial Boulevard in Newport, Rhode Island is one of the most beautiful Inn's I have ever stayed in. The Inn was Built in 1851 and the main inn houses the parlor, dining room and five guest rooms.  The carriage house consists of four , two with private balcony or courtyard.  The balcony of the Victorian room where I stayed opens to a beautiful tranquil garden.  The Annandale cottage has two guest rooms, accessible by an exterior stairwell. The Inn's owner Cheryl and the manager Betty Jo could not have been more welcoming and informative about the town.   The breakfasts on both morning of my stay was just delicious.  All in all it was a wonderful experience and I could not recommend the Victorian Ladies Inn more. 05/23/2012

After leaving New York - Our next stop was Newport, Rhode Island. By the turn of the 20th century, many of the nation's wealthiest families were summering in Newport, in their gorgeous "cottages", such  asThe Breakers, Belcourt Castle, The Elms, Marble House and Rosecliff.  The Astors and the Vanderbilts came for a brief social season  and to escapte they heat, and entertained in these grand, gilded mansions with elaborate receiving, dining, music and ballrooms, but strangely enough with few bedrooms, since the guests were expected to have cottages of their own! :-) The social scene at Newport is described in one of my favorite books, Edith Wharton's the Age of Innocence. Wine tastings abound around the country but we have the first Wine Tasting experience at the Newport RI Winefest at the Newport Yachting Center August 20-22nd 2010. This is purported to be the largest ever outdoor wine festival in New England.  All the fruitful labors of the past season have been bottled up and are ready to be shared at this Newport RI event.  The sommeliers are out in force to taste what local vineyards such as Sakonnet Vineyards, Newport Vineyards and Greenvale Vineyards all of RI fame have to offer from their new vintages.  Newport RI has so much to offer and has already this summer so this event is another highlight to the summer season. Average sale price (most recent 3 months) is $594,265, down substantially from $770,370 in 2008. Inventory Inventory is 152, up a bit from 140 in 2008. New listings of 11 in December were down substantially from 24 in November and down moderately from 12 in December of 2008. Cliffwalk in Newport, Rhode Island:  The Walk of a Lifetime   To call it beautiful, majestic, enchanting, mesmerizing, unique, breathtaking, will still not do it justice.  To call it the most beautiful walk of my life... somehow that describes it.   As the sun was setting on the cliffs of Rhode Island, bathing the gilded age mansions with an ephemeral surrealism, I could not believe I was as lucky as this:  to see such grandeur is almost humbling.  Where God meets man is an apt description for what I was looking at.    The 3.5 mile walk is a public right-of-way over private property. In spots just a couple of feet from the path are abrupt drops of over 70 feet. It seems the bad news concerning the housing and mortgage markets far outweighs the good.  However, the impression I get is that's mainly due to the coverage choices the various news sources make.  Bad news sells, so they report more bad news.   Sunday the Tall Ships paraded around Prudence Island passing by the Jamestown Bridge. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat on our good friends boat. Starting out on our trip with mimosas for the ride, we set up on the stern with food and drinks, soaking up the sun. Peggy, our hostess, served a muffaretto, which is like an Italian grinder on French bread with a New Orleans dressing. Delicious!  We had left a little early to set anchor in a comfortable spot, from which we had a 360 view of the Jamestown Bridge, Jamestown, Prudence Island, Newport  and the Tall Ships as they passed behind the Island and then forwarded on to Newport..
