Sometimes, when everything goes smoothly, something odd happens. I was cooking soup when I heard a poof noise and looked and saw a spark in the microwave. I quickly unplugged it. The smell was awful—you understand that burned electrical smell. The fan over the stove was turned on, and my hands shook.  I  had to finish making my soup. I am so grateful I was home and in the kitchen, as I wonder if the whole kitchen and place would have burned down if I had not been home. I was not using the microwave; it just went up. It was not old, either, and it was still under warranty. I called because I still had the booklet in the drawer. A few days later, even with great anti-virus, my computer was hacked. I called the computer doctor and unplugged it. He had it for a few days, and I was working o...

There are great Steals and deals out there. I stopped in Ross, although the doctor said to go home, get in bed, and rest. I stopped at my favorite Chinese take-out in the same shopping center and got some wonton soup, an order of moo shoo, and fried rice. I was lucky to have my bag, which keeps things warm or cold in the car.In Ross. I was looking for a unique gift for a special friend. As soon as I walked in the door, I found what I wanted but for me. A silver bag and a small one, Karl Lagerfeld, were locked up. It was managers' day, and a man and woman asked if I liked it and I said look, it matches my sneakers. The man laughed, and I said, How can I resist the woman who had disappeared? He asked if I wanted it, and I said I would shop and come back, and the woman reappeared with keys...

November is a month to be grateful.  The weather and clocks have changed, and the leaves have changed colors and are falling.  It is my favorite time of year, and everything is so beautiful. I am grateful that I live in an area where the seasons change. I can see Mother Nature at its best. The colors are so vibrant I take a deep breath and am thankful to be alive .. I know that soon, all the beautiful colors will turn grey, but that is alright because, for now, I will enjoy them.I love the clothes of Fall. It is not hot, and it is not cold, as Goldie Locks says in The Three Bears' Story; it is just right. Pants and a sweater with maybe a blazer. Perhaps you just want to wear jeans, a tee, and a jacket. Throw on a pair of sneakers or boots. Of course, a few think it is still summer and a...

Okay it's almost Black Friday whether you live in Philadelphia or not you need these deals the sales have already started. I am really curious to see if the sales will be cheaper than they already are. There is really nothing I could possible want or need except a vacuum so I am holding out for that.Sheertex the revolutionary new brand of tights for women. They are wonderful. I have purchased them and must say they are so comfortable. They are also true to their word of being run resistant . They feel so silky and luxurious and look wonderful. They also have socks and body suits. I was lucky to have tried them as a "Today's special Value on QVC " as a  2 for .. and they were divine since then I have purchased more  directly on the Sheertex website for a discount while supplies last for...

Philadelphia - La Reserve B&B - Charming Alternative To A Hotel/AirB&BWhere should we stay when going to an event in another city?Do we want to be in a standard hotel or some other option? For me, the search ended when speaking to the charming Innkeeper, Maria Fiorello, of La Reserve Bed and Breakfast, located at 1804 Pine Street in Center City Philadelphia. The friendliest greeting possible made the decision easy. She carefully explained how the Inn functioned and what we should expect and what we should not expect as well. The best part was the  La Reserve B&B website - thorough and user-friendly. Check it out. Each accomodation within the B&B has a complete set of photographs and description of accomodations. Made it simple for us to choose. You may call Maria at 215 - 735 - 1137 or wr...

This past Friday I had the wonderful opportunity to meet up with several Active Rain Friends in Philadelphia when Brian England  who got to show me his British passport as well, was visiting town. Hannah Williams and Michael Elliott joined us along with Brian's partner Tess.Brian had chosen a wonderful location in Philadelphia right off Rittenhouse Square called Parc, so I chose to use my new SEPTA Senior Fare Card that gives me free use of the Regional Rail and other SEPTA services such as trolleys and busses. I went to our brand new Wawa Station, yes there is a place called Wawa, and yes Wawa Stores have their farm and headquarters there. It is a convenient service right into center city Philadelphia, taking just under an hour traveling through Delaware County, much more relaxing than...

Friday was a wonderful day I finally met people I have known for years but never met. Now that may not make sense to many people but will make perfect sense to others. We have read each other articles or shall we say blogs for many years. It took Brian England  from Arizona to make a trip to Philadelphia to get us all together . I will say our local blogger Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543  (the Britt) wanted to do this for years. Philadelphia the City of brotherly Love as we say. Forget about I said  no one will show up and much to his disappointment he saw it was true. We are to thankful for you Brian as you motivated us Now this awesome guy Michael Elliott  from Burlington NJ returned to Active Rain he was so great he picked me up at my Place and we traveled downtown together to Rittenhou...

My next big shopping expense will be redoing my website. I was on the phone with Charr and she informed me of many new designs and changes so she convinced me to update. She is such a wizard and no one does it better than Yoursiteneedsme.com . Time goes by so quickly but I have a new agent I am mentoring. I promised her a meeting with Char business first.  Although I do believe it is extremely important to dress for success where better to address that than our and my own website HelpfulHannah.com? I was not  surprised when I read Liz and Bill Spear post as his thoughts were as I would say right on.  No one does it better than Char in fact as soon as I finished my conversation with Char I called Elyse Berman, PA as she recommended  Yoursiteneedsme.com .to many of us.   I know many peop...

I just returned from Candidate Night at Delaire Landing, held at the Clubhouse. I always look forward to these political nights, when the local candidates running for senate, state representative, district judge, and next year's district attorney come and speak and answer questions. They also discuss their progress since they were in office, which I find fascinating. Then, each person running for office will speak and inform us of what is happening in Northeast Philadelphia and why we should vote for them. I love to hear this information. Mike Driscoll is my neighbor, elected to the city council office, and works with our fantastic  100th Mayor, Cherelle Parker, representing our section of NE Philly. I know these people personally and can call them if I need them, and they make me so p...

My friend asked me "if I needed it" as we were shopping till we dropped and I replied NO, but I wanted it. Besides, half of my holiday shopping is done right now.  I have always found that the best bargains are in the Fall. Let me start with Ross: I found  Karl Lagerfeld cuffed trousers in black in my size for $19.99. When I was shopping for them, they were $99.99 trousers, as I had purchased the jacket on sale on his site. The Next DNKY sleeveless long-fitted vest came in and fastened at the waist and was $139—Ross's Price was $39.99 in my size and fit me perfectly. I did need these as I lost weight, and I feel it is still important to dress for success.  Now I was set! I took a short stroll by the towels but saw all the new bedding. I did not need this but wanted it!  It was a Betsy J...

I don't use too many apps, but I use Instagram Daily, which informs me of the news faster than any other device—What do we learn from the apps we use? Alexis controls many products in my house. She wakes me up, so she becomes my alarm clock. When I want to know what the weather is, I ask her. She has become a weather person; She can control my TV. She told me when my packages arrived from Amazon and gave me a roundabout day and time. She can also help control my other app in the house, Sensi  . Sensi is my thermostat. It controls the temperature in the house. I can ask Alexis to adjust the temp, or I can use the app on my iPhone.  I like the house cold when I go to sleep, so when in bed, I tell Alexis to lower the temperature to my preferred temp. When I was getting ready to leave, I in...

News Brief for this week!  I hope you find this information HelpfulPA’s lead pipe problem is one of the worst in the nation.Pittsburgh and Philadelphia alone report 29,000 and 25,000 lead pipes, respectively, and a report from the Natural Resources Defense Council noted that its numbers underestimate the problem due to a lack of data. The council report estimated that more than 660,000 service lines in Pennsylvania contain lead. “In a new level of detail, we see a pervasive problem with cities and towns, big and small, across the country that have documented where people are drinking through what amounts to a lead straw and where we do not even know the pipe materials,” the report authors wrote. In recent years, state and federal funds have provided money for lead pipe removal. In Janu...

Let's talk about Delaire Landing. Fall is here, and it is time to examine what is happening in the real estate market. Eight properties were for sale. Of course, some of these properties have been around for almost a few months. After reading other market reports nationwide, I noticed this seems to be the norm,Let's be honest. It is that time of year. Buyers now have a great selection and don't have to compete. Those in this price range in Pennsylvania may also qualify for a state  grant. The last buyer, I had received $12,000 toward the house. If you are looking, please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss this option. It is an excellent opportunity to help purchase an available home/condo.Let's look at what is available and prices. Eight active units are available, two of which ar...

This month, I was challenged to write a post in 53 words about how I became successful in Real Estate. That is impossible to explain in 53 words. However, I will tell you it takes time, patience, and understanding of people and their wants, needs, and fears. Buying a house is one of the most important purchases a person makes in their entire life. They are always unsure that they are making the right decision and need someone to talk to to ease their fears. To help them and assure them they are making the right choice and that everything will be fine. When I make these decisions for myself, I want someone to assure me, so I make sure I am always available for my buyers and sellers to help them make these critical decisions, especially when someone is getting them upset with misinformati...

Time has been flying by for me, and for the first time in many years,  I have been taking time for myself. I have heard through the grapevine that people think that means I am not working. On the contrary, it just means I am working more intelligently. Well enough, now let's talk Steal and Deals. When looking at Instagram, I read about a new store called ReClectic in Philadelphia Mills. It is a second-hand store with new and old things, an Outlet Store some say for Generation Z, with sample clothing from top brands like Free People, Anthropology, Urban Outfitters, and many others. Some things are new, some slightly worn. There is also furniture. I read check out the Green Velvet Couch. I didn't.t see it, so I guess I was mesmerized, or it sold Being the shopper I am, I searched for it,...

.     Last Friday my wife ( Laura) and I drove into Phillyto view the Mary Cassatt Exhibit. It did not disappoint .She  was a unique artist for her time and led a life thatempowered others . There must have been 100+ paintings . Her models were often people who workedon her estate and/or neighborhood children .       The Art Museum was beautiful and had several Food opportunities and several Stores where the Prints of featured paintings were  VERY reasonable. The is aParking Garage on site ( so parking is not an issue). The neighborhood includes Boathouse Row , with numerous college athletes sharping their rowing skills. The Museum is also about 30 minutes ( on the way home) to King of Prussia Mega Mall . Taking a train from Lancaster was another option . We willbe back to tour numerous ...
