History of Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Nestled on what is known as "The Great Plateau" at the top of the Pocono Mountains, nearly 2,000 feet above sea level, Lake Naomi - Timber Trails, has an incomparable setting in what, for a century, has been a haven for those who love the good life of sports and the out-of-doors. In 1895 Lake Naomi was created by impounding a spring fed, trout fishing stream, the Tunkhannock Creek. Originally the Lake supported an aggressive ice farming business which thrived until the advent of artificial refrigeration. Records indicate that visitors from the metropolitan areas started vacationing here as early as 1888 to enjoy the cool air and clean water.
