The Pocono Record indicated that the Pocono's this year got hit with two things during the summer tourist season. Recession #1, and the weather #2. One major factor can be overcome but two makes it very difficult. That's what has been happening since Memorial Day. They say local resorts and attractions have been dealing with the worst economic times in decades. The National Weather Service measured precipitation at Mount Pocono almost 7 inches above the norm, almost 20 inches of rain. More than half of the days from June through August had at least a trace of rain, including 23 of the 30 days in June. The longest streak of days without rain only hit six, from Aug. 3 to 8.  Local News Indicated that six companies recalled millions of window blinds and shades, following the deaths of three children who got caught in cords that help the coverings move up and down. The recalls, announced today by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, involve some big-name companies, including Pottery Barn Kids and IKEA as well as smaller companies that sold their window covers at retailers such as Target. No deaths were associated with the blinds and shades from Pottery Barn Kids and IKEA, but CPSC says there have been six reports of children becoming entangled in the inner cord of the Pottery Barn Kids shades. Next on the stimulus agenda is a rebate on appliances.   The US stimulus bill recently signed into law by US President Barack Obama includes a $300 million provision to fund the Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program. The consumer rebate will offset the cost differential between Energy Star and non-Energy Star appliances.   We were winners of a door prize at the RSPS Symposium this past March but we just received our prize. We received phone calls from people that we networked with while we were there that we won a door prize but know one could tell us what we won. We called the people who ran the symposium they called all vendors that had door prizes but know one again knew what we one. Finally a person at Viscape was checking a pair of pants not long ago and found our business card in a pocket. The person who pulled the card thought a PA agent won but could not find the winning card so they gave it to another agent in PA.
