Well, early March gave us a beautiful spring like even a summer day feeling with warm temperatures that encouraged us to get out with our dog and then see where we ended up. Our initial plan after our walk at Nottingham Country Park was to drive to Maryland and pick up some Shrimp, but when we got there the place was closed. So, on our way home we saw that Wayvine Winery, which we have not visited yet had some live music. On arriving we saw it was pretty crowded with plenty of people sitting outside enjoying the weather. I sat with Jackie our dog whilst Annie went to investigate. Returning with a Dry Riesling and a Barbera Red, with a portion of Parmesan Arancini. Both the wines were good however, the arancini were a little oily.I went to walk around and took the photo above of the oak ...

Everyone knows about the Longwood Gardens Christmas Lights Display, but just down the road at the Herr's Factory in Oxford is a FREE display on the trees and factory. The whole campus is lit up, offices, factory and all the trees and the grounds as well. It is a drive through experience, but a fun one. After you have driven through there are plenty of places to enjoy dinner locally in Oxford and Nottingham, or a bit further away there is West Grove and Kennett Square. People come from Maryland, and all over to drive through and enjoy the display. No free chips, but a wonderful free light display.

It is easy to be grateful if you have a grateful heart. I generally wake up happy and grateful. A friend once said to me he was grateful to be above ground another day every day. This week I reconnected with a friend, who I have not seen for several years. I realized his business, he is a mortgage lender was right where we now live. So, I had reached out and we arranged to meet up at a coffee shop in Oxford I did not know about yet. So, I am grateful for discovering this really cool coffee shop Wholly Grounds, as it looks a great pace to get out of the house and sit somewhere comfortable with a snack and a coffee. You can see they have a whole section of comfy chairs to enjoy and if you look closely there is a piano and guitar back there. My friend mentioned they sometimes have musicians...

I have done Oxford tours in the past and highly recommend this town if you have never been there before. The people are super friendly and they put on a great tour!  P.S. This one was very well attended with some good natured rushing around to be in the first tour group to get a guide. But as the man said, "Just wait a couple of minutes and my wife will give you the tour."  As indeed she did!

The Town Tours and Village Walks in Chester County, PA, came up with another hit last week in Oxford, Pennsylvania, a town of 5000 people, founded in 1833, and simply overflowing with historic buildings. The northern half of Oxford was owned by the Dickey family in the 19th century. The Dickeys included the local Presbyterian minister, the Mr O'Malley of the local bank, a state Representative, and local businessmen. Reverend John Miller Dickey and his wife Sarah Emlen Cresson founded Ashmun Institute in 1854, and which later became Lincoln University. The family played a major role in re-routing the new Philadelphia and Baltimore Central Railroad (P&BC) through Oxford. Track was laid in the 1850s. The railroad reached Oxford in 1860 and later connected to Philadelphia and Baltimore. By t...

All you have to do is look at the Lazaridis family, who happen to be longtime clients, and a smile comes over your face. Pete, Camille and Parris are living the American Dream and working hard. Pete, who hails from a Philadelphia pizza-making lineage adds some Greek touches (can't wait to bring my boys in for the gyros) to Oxford's new pizza (and more) place. Pete's Pizza Kitchen on Old Baltimore Pike is dynamite. Just went back got the the gyro and "The Camille," an in incredible chicken cheese steak - out of this world.    I brought back samples to the office yesterday, and everyone is asking, "WHERE IS PIZZA PETE'S KITCHEN? I can attest to the vegetarian creation Pete made me - the freshest ingredients and the crust was outta this world. Linzee and Steve loved the ham and pineapple, ...

Many of my clients know that Oxford is a great place to buy investment property. The DAILY LOCAL NEWS in West Chester, PA, reports that the Oxford Borough Council  may extend inspections to commercial rental properties  The Borough  already inspects residential properties and requires that rental properties meet maintenance code standards before occupied. The inspections are being expanded to include commercial rental properties to improve the downtown business district. Why? Thee have been complaints about empty storefronts and others that appear rundown.  Borough Manager Betsey Bratner noted Oxford has already developed a list of about a dozen buildings where the owners will be approached about making improvements. Bratner raised the subject of tax incentives for new businesses that l...

This effort is being led by a good friend of mine, John Stevenson. Regional rail service may return to OxfordBringing railroad service back to the Oxford Area could become a reality in the near future thanks to the efforts of a group called the Oxford Area Transit Service (OATS). OATS is a small committee that is dedicated to the revitalization of the 29.8 miles of railroad track that runs from Chadds Ford, through Oxford and ends in Nottingham. The group would like to see that track used again for both freight and passenger service.Source: Oxford Tribune; 2/27/08
