What will an old resident's fate be?  Nazareth council will decide tonight   From reading the title, I'm sure I have your attention and perked your curiosity.   Who is this old resident of Nazareth who's fate will be decided tonight?    This resident has resided at the same place in Nazareth for 107 years and has seen many visitors over the years.  This resident is an old beech tree located in the town's circle.   The tree is dying a slow death and the town will decide if it needs to be put out of it's misery.   Many initials are found inscribed in the trunk of this tree over the years.  This contributed to it's slow death.  When initials are carved into the trunk it is like a wound on a human.  If it is not taken care of right away, infection and parasites invade and start eating awa...

Attention!  Attention all future authors in the Nazareth Area School District!   Here is an opportunity for all Nazareth Area School District youth from Kindergarten through 12th grade to show their book writing skills.   The Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity is holding it's 6th annual "Write and Illustrate Your Own Book" contest.    The contest runs from now until March 14th.    Any youth wishing to partake in the contest may contact the Library for more information.   I can just see the creativity and the imaginations flowing from the minds of the area youth.  Can't wait to hear some of these stories.  I'm sure the judges will have difficult decisions to make.

I went out for a walk at lunch time without a jacket and was quite comfortable.  I was not cold at all.  Plus, I have the windows open in my house.  It feels great!  And this is the middle of winter.      Those of you that know me are probably saying at this point "How can that be?  She does not live in Florida or Hawaii.  She lives in the northeastern part of the country, namely Pennsylvania."   Today is February 11th and it is 69 degrees in Nazareth, PA.  Yes, you heard right.  69 degrees in the middle of February.  That is highly unusual for central eastern Pennsylvania for this time of year.  Normally the high temperature outside is in the 30's in February.   Just this past weekend I went for a short hike in Jacobsburg State Park and the trails were ice and snow covered.  (I forgo...

The Indian Tower is located on the outskirts of Nazareth, PA.     The Indian Tower sits at the highest point of the original 5,000 acres in Nazareth.  The original structure was a pavilion called "the Summer House" built in 1867 by John Jordan, Jr.  He later donated $200 to the Moravian Historical Society to replace the pavilion with the present-day tower, which was completed in 1916.  The Indian Tower is commonly thought to have been used as a lookout for hostile Indians.  In actuality, the Indians had been removed from Pennsylvania long before the tower was built, and it received it's name because of the Indian Graveyard it overlooks.  This tower has been used for many purposes over the years: as a Civil Defense Lookout in WWII, as a repeater station for emergency services, and alwa...

Believe it or not, I found this handsome little man at the local animal shelter.  He captured my heart and is now the newest addition to our family! Another unfortunate side effect of the decline in the housing market and economy is the number of family pets that are being left behind in shelters or hard to imagine in vacant homes and on the streets. I have dealt with several foreclosures over the last year and fortunately have not found any abandoned animals in these homes. There is a misconception among some people that the only animals you find in the animal shelters are nasty and aggressive...but this is really not true.  Since I brought Jingles home, he has brought so much delight into our home!  He is my faithful companion staying close by my side while I work in my home office.  ...

On November 1st, Lehigh Valley's 2nd dog park opened in Nazareth Boro Park, Northampton County's largest park.  It is a grassy, tree-lined, fenced in area on top of the hillside where dogs can be taken off their leashes to run and play.   The idea began about 1 year ago.  An area resident was willing to donate the labor from his landscaping company if the borough bought the materials and a permit was issued to allow the area of the park for dogs.   There is one other dog park in the Lehigh Valley and it is located in Bethlehem in Illick's Mill Park.  Two other dog parks are proposed in the Allentown and Emmaus areas.  These 2 are currently placed on hold.   There are 2 fenced in areas for the dogs.  One is for small dogs and the other for large dogs.  Rules will be posted and they wil...

Nazareth holds many events and activities throughout the year, including Thanksgiving Day.  No, it's not a parade.  It is the Pumpking Pie 5K Race and Scenic Walk sponsored by the Nazareth YMCA.  It will occur on Thanksgiving morning from 9AM to around 10:30AM.    Main Street in Nazareth will be closed from Belvidere Street through the circle and north to Chestnut Street from 7:15AM until the end of the race.  The course will end in front of the YMCA.   Nazareth residents are encouraged to play music and cheer on the participants.   Click here for more information on this event.    Never a dull moment in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.

The Nazareth Blue Eagle Marching Band of Nazareth Area High School returned home from a 2 day trip to Maryland.  They were escorted from the township line to the high school by the Nazareth police, fire and ambulance crews.  Hundreds of screaming and waving parents and schoolmates were waiting at the school holding congratulatory signs and balloons and blowing car horns.   What was all the commotion about?   The band had won the U.S. Scholastic Band National Championship (4th division) and Grand National title.  The band competed against 79 other bands with a score of 98.575 out of 100, the highest score ever in the competition's 30 year history.  They also earned the Marine Corps Espirit de Corps award.   What was really amazing was that the Nazareth band defended every title from th...

Yesterday was a rather nice evening, so I decided to take a stroll on Nazareth's "Evening On Main Street".   As I approached Main Street, cars of yesteryear all the way up to today were on display.  It was the Antique & Classic Car Show.  Boy, did some of those cars bring back memories.  Looking under the hood of the older cars, I was able to actually locate each part of the engine.  That's the way I like it, nice and simple.  Back then all your car troubles were easy to locate.   Continuing my stroll north on Main Street, I came across a few performing youth groups.  There were dance groups and singers, who were performing to raise money for the "Dream Come True" Foundation.  I  must add that they were very good.   Further up on Main Street, there was a lot of food, from hot dogs to ...
