Another Beautiful Sunset Winter sunsets seem more dramatic when viewed across a snowy landscape. Driving west from downtown Erie the sky was on fire.  I hurried to capture a final glimpse of tonight's sunset and made a quick detour down to Avonia Beach/Lake Erie.  However, I was too late to get a good shot so I raced back up the hill to get this photo from my front porch.  Enjoy . . . until next beautiful Erie sunset. Another Beautiful Sunset

Let Me Share the Beauty Let me share the beauty of softly falling snow & you don't even need to go out your door.  I didn't either as I took this shot from my back door. Now that wasn't too cold, was it?  Have a great day and stay warm.  (Here in Erie, PA it's barely 20, but I still plan to cross country ski in those woods this afternoon.)

Get Healthy Challenge ~ Breathe fresh air.  Oh, the wind chill might be single digits in Erie, PA but dress warm and get outside.  (Reminds me of what my mother used to say.)  I debated and debated.  Finally I got dressed (boots, hats, gloves, scarf & heavy jacket) and walked to the woods behind my house.  And look who I found in the wooods. Look to right of arrow ~ Bambi Get Healthy Challenge ~ Breathe fresh air ~ Breathe deeply ~ Exhale  Had I not been participating in ActiveRain's Get Healthy Challenge I might not have ventured out into the fresh air.  Reminder:  Real Estate coaching class Erie, PA February 2, 2013

Who Is Confused  . . . Weatherman? . . . Flowers? . . . Me? Looking what I found in my flower garden this morning . . . Snow Drops . . . no, not SNOW like the cold stuff, but Snow Drops, the flowers.   Snow Drops (generic term) so named because they are the first flowers of spring and usually poke their heads up through the last snow in late March.  Mr. Weatherman, I love the warmer temperatures, sunshine and longer days but it is still January and Erie, PA still has a lot of winter ahead of us.  Who needs to be a Snow Bird?  I think I will get over my confusion as soon as the next cold front moves in with more Lake Effect Snow for Erie, PA.  Did you hear Erie, PA mentioned on Weather Channel again this morning?

Are You Prepared to Show Properties in a Snow Storm? Summer Heat? How prepared are you for the weather Mother Nature sends your way?  Since winter is gripping much of the country let's discuss a few common sense tips for showing properties during the winter.  (Of course our southern friends can give us tips on showing properties in 'fair-weather') Dress warm--remember what your mother said Hat, scarf, gloves Keep box of extras in vehicle--just in case Wear your bootsDoes that sound like Mom? Accessories for your trunk:  shovel & flashlight Above all else, think safety. Are You Prepared to Show Properties in a Snow Storm? In Summer Heat?

Who Visits Erie, PA in the Winter?     Erie, PA is not a winter destination for most people unless of course you work for the Weather Channel.  Scott Newell, meteorologist for Weather Channel was standing near intersection of Peach Street and I-90 before 6:00 am this morning.  Kevin Tibbles, NBC Today mentioned Erie, PA getting dumped on by lake effect snow.   Yes, Erie, PA had more than 18 inches of snow over two day period with more to come, but we did not break any records yet.  No major weather related incidents.   Thanks Scott Newell/Weather Channel for complementing Erie-ites for being winter-savy and able to deal with most winter conditions.  The Erie School District did not cancel school or use 2-hour delay.  (Parents may use their own discretion to send or not send their kids t...

Light My Fire! It's January and rather cold but the sunset at Avonia Beach on Lake Erie just takes my breath away every time.  Look closely at the photo and you see a dusting of snow but the glow from the setting sun just lights a fire in my soul.  Time to hurry up the hill & home for dinner.  Good night, my friends.   Tired of Turkey Sandwiches? Enjoy a Bowl of White Chili As kids we looked forward to turkey sandwiches after a holiday.  Back then our sandwiches were made on Mother's warm, homemade bread.  Mmmm good.  Today we look forward to a bowl of White Chili.  Try this quick and easy recipe.  Tastes so good with Golden Corn Bread.   3 cups leftover chicken or turkey white meat cut into ½ inch cubes 1 medium onion, chopped 1 medium green peppers, chopped ½ cup celery finely chopped 2-3 cloves garlic, minced 2 (15.5oz) cans Great Northern Beans or similar beans, drained & rinsed 1 large can chicken broth ¼ tsp cumin or Mexican seasoning  (sometimes I use Chipotle Chile Pepper) Salt & pepper to taste Optional:  green chilies, drained   Saute onions, peppers, celery & garlic till browned.  Add chi...

Winter Wonderland 2012 Enjoy the beauty of Winter from the comfort of your computer OR get outside and enjoy winter sports. I apolgize to my southern friends who dislike winter, BUT there are a few, like me, that love winter.  Why do I love winter? To answer that question I have to go back to childhood days when we spent hours and hours playing in the snow.  In middle school my friends introduced me to ice skating. Later in college I discovered the joy of cross country skiing.  Now many years later I look forward to winter as an opportunity to enjoy the woods via my skiis. Erie, PA has many locations for cross country skiing.  Here are few of my favorites. Presque Isle Peninsula Asbury Woods Nature Center Pleasant Ridge Park Camp Notre Dame Fairview Fish & Boat Commission property My ow...
