Passion cannot be faked.  One can wear a mask or pretend, but after a while the truth has a way of seeping through the crevices and coming forth in all its glory.  It usually doesn't take more than a few moments to determine if someone truly enjoys what they're doing or is simply performing a task for a paycheck.  I will never forget the day I stopped at Salvation Army to make a clothing donation. The woman that accepted the bag was in the process of sorting a pile of clothes. She paused to look me in the eye.  Her eyes looked tired and then I further noticed that one of her arms was paralyzed and she was sorting with only one arm. Her face had a gentle tenderness and her smile could brighten the most dismal day.  Perhaps out of habit I inquired, "How are you today?" Her response was in...

"Maria Sapio is very professional yet personable and kind.  She REALLY cared about us, not just the sale. Se never tried to push us to our financial limit and when we were not satisfied with any of the home listings in her geographical zone, she went outside the area.  Being out of state, she gladly showed several homes to my family members first and then showed homes a second time to us.  If we had any questions, she either answered them or conferred with someone and responded in a prompt manner. Bottom line: She went above and beyond to find us our dream home with a smile on her face.  Now WE have smiles on our faces."- Ann & Bruce P, Buyers - 1/27/2017

I have been a resident of Carlisle, PA since 2000 so when I think about the local attractions, there are so many that come to mind including: Dickinson College and Library, The U.S. Army Heritage & Education Center at Carlisle Barracks, The Carlisle Historical Society, Kings Gap Environmental Center, and of course, let's not forget Massey's Frozen Custard serving the most delicious frozen custard since 1949.  Yet the attraction I have chosen to reflect upon may not be found by searching the lists of Things-To-Do in Carlisle. As a matter of fact, the attraction is probably one of the best kept secrets around and one of my most favorite spots on Earth. The hidden gem location is Stuart Park at Barnitz Mill.   History tells us that the mill was sold to Jacob Barnitz around 1864 and was used...

I read this quote this morning and although Dr. Cloud may not be specifically be referring to a 'move' in geographic terms, nonetheless, the quote is applicable to every aspect of a 'move.' Moving is a reality of life. Whether it be moving to:A new jobA new hobbyNew eating habitsA new exercise regimentA new communityOr a new homeThe common denominator is the aspect of 'new' - and the stepping stone from the familiar to the unknown. Moving requires new patterns of thinking.  Being able to adapt to a move and transition through it with a healthy perspective helps the mind shift from 'fear' to 'adventure.'  Life is on the move.  Be ready to shift gears and re-adjust.  Look up and keep focused on the ultimate desire. And never forget to appreciate the view along the way...  Image from: http...

Our friend, Praful Thakkar has challenged each of us within the forum of Active Rain to conjure up our mystical intuition and look into the future of 2017...Behold what is lurking in the fog of the unknown - to be unveiled this year...??Do I see bright dawning hopes realized...??Or do I see the dismal discouragement of fear abounding...??Each new year, we are each faced with the thought provoking endeavor of choosing our intended path, plan, and purpose for the upcoming twelve months.  Since after all, determining the 'next best step' is do-able for each of us and I think the magnitude of thinking in terms beyond twelve months can be daunting or downright terrifying. So, as I peer into the blackness of the unknown before me, what do I, Madame Maria, see...??I see eyes of expectancy....I ...

Callapatscink, a picturesque subdivision in Carlisle, PA.  "The original name of the Yellow Breeches was Callapatscink, which has been translated to mean, ―where the waters turn back again. This is descriptive of the lower stream where the general eastern flow turns back to the west at certain bends along its course."(https://www.ccpa.net/DocumentCenter/Home/View/7971) Upon entering Callapatscink, one is greeted by the sign that states: "Here the creek embraces, the train whistle comforts & the mountain stands guard."Be sure to look immediately to your left upon entrance and perhaps pause a moment to listen to the tranquil sounds of nature and observe the bustle of the trout within the Yellow Breeches Creek.  If you've timed your visit well, look to your left and maybe you'll catch a gl...

Weltanschauung:The guiding principles and philosophy of an organization; a world view. I have chosen to share #4: "ActiveRain welcomes the active participation of all real estate professionals, irrespective of their affiliation with industry groups or trade associations. We believe a vibrant and diverse real estate community is essential to maintaining a strong organization." Active Rain was mentioned in a class I attended in June of 2016. Since I have always enjoyed writing and reading the perspectives of others, I was immediately intrigued.  I posted my first blog on June 26, 2016 and can personally testify to the warm welcome I received.  I continue to appreciate the diverse perspectives and sincere desire by many to offer insight and opinions as well as share stories from their exp...

Ringin' & Singin' with Maria Sapio      Thanks to this month's Ringing & Singing contest, I was given the perfect opportunity to reach out to Maria Sapio , a relatively new ActiveRain member that has made an immediate and significant contribution to the rain.   Turns out, prior to connecting, we wanted to see which one of us was better at the game of phone tag, and after some voicemail correspondence, we finally connected, and I was able to learn a bit more about Maria.     Maria is originally a New York gal from the Long Island area, and now lives and works in Carlisle, PA in Cumberland County.  Having a great history of sales experience, Maria became a licensed real estate agent in June 2016.  She loves that in the real estate world, the business naturally brings something new each an...

Deciding to sell your home is a huge decision and I so appreciate you contacting me.  I would be honored for the opportunity to list your home for sale. I am here to guide you through the process and to help you navigate this path.Let's talk about the A,B,C's...A is For Appeal:Buyers are generally looking for move-in-ready homes.  They expect to drive up to a home that looks inviting from the exterior and enter into a clean looking and clean smelling, de-cluttered home that is warm and welcoming.  B is For Box-It:If you don't 'absolutely need it' then box it up.  Buyers can be overwhelmed by too much stuff.  Jam packed, cluttered closets and overcrowded counters tend to convey 'lack of space.'  Keep what you need and start packing the rest to present a well organized space.C is For Cale...

During the holiday season, my email inbox was flooded.I think I received emails from practically every company I had ever done any degree of business with in the past year.  Some emails were cute or at least captured my momentary attention, while others had me scrolling quickly to the bottom of the page to click the 'unsubscribe' and bid farewell.Why...??When an email is opened from a business, what might keep a reader engaged, or entice curiosity and what is the ultimate turn-off?Email senders may want to consider the following...- Provide something of value/unique/helpful/insightful- Offer a twist or unexpected perspective- Write with heart/grit something of depth/thought provoking/compelling- Relevant photos/graphics - Cute/humorous/whimsical or tastefully funny - Have an intended me...

One size does not fit all.  Whether we are talking about a poncho or a business model, we are all different with varying shapes, styles, and personalities and the one size approach is sure to get lost in the sea of many. So how does one 'stand out' from the crowd...??Why would someone 'notice' my business as opposed to the other 99 that seem on the surface to do the exact same thing...??I am not a master marketer.  I am simply sharing from my own heart -Have you ever approached the front door of a home to see a welcome mat sitting beside a 'no soliciting' sign - ??  Do those two messages seem to be offering a mixed message...??  I don't think so.  Actually most people are quite welcoming to new friendships, new ideas, and new valuable information but most simply do not have room for the...

I have a really hard time with the term 'Expert'... Who exactly can claim to be an 'expert' and when/how is that status achieved?Does 'expert' imply flawlessly perfect? Does the term 'expert' lead one to believe that no further learning is necessary, and somehow, one has 'arrived' at a status beyond question or fallibility?Imagine the story of a surgeon that has declared to a family that he is an 'expert' in his field.  He has performed this particular operation numerous times with flawless precision.  Yet, upon leaving the O.R., he must deliver the horrific news that today, something went terribly wrong.Perhaps we must accept that an 'expert' is not infallible.  I suspect that a true 'expert' would dare not ever place such a distinctive label upon them-self.  In my opinion, an 'expert'...

People are always asking me, "So, how do you like Real Estate?" The truth is, I love the notion of helping people through the process of buying and/or selling a home. I also understand that for some clients the process is seasoned with a variety of emotions ranging from pure enthusiasm to sheer terror and I'm the one they contact to purge whatever my client is feeling in that moment.   Most of my day on Christmas Eve 2016 I spent playing ping-pong. Actually, I was the ping-pong ball and I bounced back and forth with all involved parties to finalize an offer. It was stressful for many and I had to remain as calm and cool as a ping-pong ball and keep everyone well informed while desperately keeping my cool. Yes, I'm human and at 11:30PM I was tired and my brain was fried but I knew that t...

How does one accomplish a set goal? It's really quite simple - Little-By-LittleA dear friend of mine just had surgery a few days ago.  When I checked in with her today to see how she was recovering, her response was - "Little-By-Little"...That's the attitude of a Winner...!!A champion understands that the road may be bumpy with heights to climb and difficult descents, but we move from point A to point B through perseverance, determination and a good ol' no quit attitude...It's one day at a time...One moment at at time...One breath at a time...Little-By-Little...What's overwhelming you...??Are you considering selling your home - and don't know how or where to start...??Are you thinking about buying your first home - and are confused...??Are you thinking of moving to a new area - and you h...

What is the 'MUST HAVE' on your New Home List? Some may be singing "I'm dreaming of a white kitchen" - For others, perhaps vaulted ceilings, wood floors, or attached garage...?? In addition to the standard 'must-have' items, some sellers may not have considered that most buyers are VERY interested in hidden storage space. Most people have excess 'stuff' and are looking for deep uncluttered closets with shelving, and well organized unfinished basement areas to accommodate their collected treasures.  When touring a home, a buyer is usually considering if their 'stuff' will fit in the home's 'space' - so I always emphasize to a seller the huge importance of taking some time to be sure that in addition to the open home areas being neat and clean, be sure your 'out-of-sight storage areas are ...
