How Healthy Is Your Relationship with Money? I got to thinking about this in the wee hours of the morning. As with any "relationship" it has its ups and downs, but if you have a healthy relationship, it can withstand the downtimes or if there are issues to be addressed, you don't pretend they don't exist, you just tackle them head-on,  especially while they're small. For many of us in real estate at this juncture, our relationship with money might be needing some therapy. Maybe we've become co-dependent, not able to live independently of one another without relying on bad behaviors to keep the relationship going. For example, are you pretending you still have the kind of money you once had  (when your relationship was so RICH that you could squander it or push it to the limits)? Is that...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Inspirational Hikes      One of many things that Fishhawk Lake offers is something you wouldn’t necessarily know about a lake. That there are places and people to discover and walks through the woods! These two women are quite an inspiration when hiking with them. They are both in the 60-70 age range, and this particular hike was over 8 miles long.       I always have a great time with these two lovelies and we find something new and interesting each time we go. We made many discoveries along the trail during a hike earlier this year. One was this cool old truck.       We inspected it up close.   First Genny and my dogs, then Kathy. (Notice the bullethole by the door handle...someone having target practice?)   Here’s a photo I took of the inside.     It was lik...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Are You in Love with Your Niche? I got a call today.  A new client who had come up to Fishhawk Lake two weeks ago, drove through the lake community and talked with neighbors at different ends of the lake. They took my fliers. They wanted to spend the whole day here, but didn't want to intrude on anyone. Then, after talking with some of these local folks and driving around Fishhawk Lake's community, they said to themselves, this is where we want to be on weekends and later, fulltime.  They also called me because my neighbors, when asked, said I was quite a capable realtor. So, this woman bypassed the realtor she was going to use, and decided to go with me. And as we talked today, I heard her say more and more, "this is the place where we want to spend the rest o...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Beauty in a Barn Rob Thomas, one of my favorite photobloggers teaches us the simple beauty in a barn or other structures who have a history that speaks volumes with no words. This photo, of a barn located on Hwy 202 and Fishhawk Rd. is one of my personal favorites as far as barns go. It is at the entrance to the four mile trek to my private lake community at Fishhawk Lake Estates.  It speaks to me often...through seasons and changes that it goes through as the years go by. I took this one in July 2011. After I took this photo, I saw an old sign tucked into the grass across the road from this majestic old beauty. There is beauty in simplicity. Old woods, character, greenery, it surrounds us. STOP. BREATHE. ENJOY. Gayle Rich-BoxmanRealtor® Vernonia Realty Direct:...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Fishhawk Lake Creatures These happen to be some of my favorite photos of the creatures that abound here! This little guy was in my waterfeature...little guy, big sound.   The dragonfly was right next to Fishhawk Lake down by one of the docks. He enjoyed having his picture taken. The Monarch butterfly below landed on one of my coneflowers in my waterfeature.  He looks pretty tattered....a little rough around the edges.   These elk were at the Jewell Elk Reserve during a very cold 10 degree winter day, but the sun was out and the colors were brilliant and crisp. Good photo op! I happened to be driving by, saw this fella hanging out by the side of the road, took some shots of him eating, but this one of him chomping on his own behind was my favorite! Fishhawk Lake...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-When is a Low Price Too Low- Are We Giving Away the Farm? Yesterday morning I had another one of those "price talks" with a seller owning property at Fishhawk Lake who is truly a good person. She was worried about me and my fee first of all, while talking about how low to go on the newest price on her lot. I told her, (honestly, as I always approach it this way) I don't think about my marketing fee when it comes to this--REALLY I don't! I think about what is best for the client and what the market will bear.  We've been at this awhile, she has a terrific vacant lot, with water easement to Fishhawk Creek,   ready to build, secluded, perfect for camping, etc. There are just no buyers right now for something like this! So...being the kind person that she is, she w...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Do You Push Your Comfort Level Daily? Eleanor Roosevelt was not the most beautiful woman to ever grace the White House.  However, she embodied several of the characteristics I find most engaging in a woman. She was smart, fearless, charismatic and self-deprecating, which I find to be very alluring and ultimately soulfully beautiful.   I read a quote of hers yesterday in a novel that prompted me to think about her in regards to  my own comfort level. She said, "Do one thing every day that scares you". As I was on my run this morning, I spent some time pondering that quote. Basically, if you tackle your fears head-on daily and conquer them, you ascend that pinnacle of confidence by one more step and with each step towards your own personal mountaintop,    you bec...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Fishhawk Family Events I'm going to take you on a little trip to see some of  the "Family Events at Fishhawk Lake". We're almost there! Come join us! This is an old set of logging roads that climbs up to 2,000 ft. above sea level, a half mile from Fishhawk Lake--great trails for hiking, running, and taking your ATV or just throwing a high-top party! Welcome to Fishhawk Lake--where family fun can be created on the water.   Whether it's summer vacation, 4th of July or Annual Fun Day, there's plenty to do on the lake with family. This playstructure was built and partially paid for by these volunteers! We've even had a birth right here at Fishhawk Lake.... Birthdays are celebrated with themes like the "fifties"....  (That's my sister and one of our resident "fun ga...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Wildlife on the Lake It's always fun for me to share pictures ofwildlife at Fishhawk Lake since we constantly have comings and goings of creatures who love it here just as much as we do! Every year, we have "new families" on Fishhawk Lake. This year, I got to capture some close-ups of baby mallards while we threw some bread scraps off our dock. They came right up to the boat, and our dogs were watching them, but never even barked. Here's another little guy. Papa Mallard was nearby, but not too close! Notice the bread just out of his reach. (He's sure giving me the eye). My friend, Darlene Geyer, a vacation home owner and past client of mine took these recent kingfisher photos: This goose used to be part of a threesome, but is all by itself until the Canadian ge...

"My heart hurts," she said, "and that isn't good", my client exclaimed after seeing the cabin she was hoping to hate. This exotic and lovely woman, whom I shall call "Alexandra", has been coming to see properties here at our slice of paradise, Fishhawk Lake for about two years. She has had a romance with Fishhawk Lake for three or four years now. She "gets it", my husband told me later. Yes, Alexandra does. The luxury of simplicity. The sumptuous quiet that is so delicious it's like a divine dessert for the soul. Her dream: a cabin made of woods, nothing fancy, right on the lake with views that make you want to sit for hours and forget about the busyness of life.      She loved the architectural lines, the pairing of wood and angle and beam.       And there is the element of "love" that ...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Do What You Love The Money Will Follow This is a book by Marsha Sinetar that I read years ago that proved to be pivotal in creating a new mentality in my work acumen.  Here is just one comment about it: "Filled with inspirational examples...infinitely more appealing than those sterile books telling us how to become a millionaire before we are 35." --Rev. Richard N ... There were many lessons for me which helped change my focus from making money the main goal, to doing what I love as my goal which then more naturally creates the prosperity in my life. When things are tough financially or business is slow, if you love what you do, you can STILL get up in the morning and face the day as opposed to hiding under the covers and hoping the world will go away. Part of ...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-It's a ShutOut: Listings 19 Buyers 0. This season in real estate has felt like a baseball game in many ways.                  For most of the season, it's been rained out games, week after week. Very slow start-up with one hit early in the season, and many strike-outs since. I've been working on my game strategy and even took a self-designated "time out" with a week's vacation to get my head back in the game.   Sometimes I've felt like I'm selling the Field of Dreams, because some feel that this Fishhawk Lake paradise  may not really exist. It does exist, but lately the turf's been looking a little too green....unplanned algae from all that damned rain has mucked up our playing field. Since I'm a one-woman team, I've had to learn to play the field in every posi...

I've asked this question periodically for years. I'll ask friends, bring it up as a party question, or casually mention it in a business conversation. It could be more than one lifeboat, too. For example, my Personal Lifeboat would include my husband, but in my Business Lifeboat, I've got such a bastion of folks lined up on my real estate team that he's more of my 1st Alternate if someone were to jump ship at the last moment. Not because he's not "on my team", he IS, but when I talk about my business lifeboat, I think about people like my favorite lender, my escrow officer....people like THAT.  Part of the reason why I mention my favorite lender, Shawn Baeschlin with NW Mortgage Group, Inc. is because he WITHOUT FAIL takes great care of my clients and does it with the same business acum...

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate--Another Lousy Day in Paradise It's a gorgeous Sunday and my family will be here in less than a week to celebrate my young (really) mom's 80th birthday!  So, I'm going to throw in some past photos of them while enjoying Fishhawk Lake. Catch and keep two cutthroat trout per day on Fishhawk Lake (a private lake community) from May to November 1st--catch and release salmon and steelhead. You can have up to a 22' pontoon on Fishhawk Lake. All motors are electric only or human-powered! Kids and dogs, off all sizes and ages are welcome at Fishhawk Lake!   Last time I saw my mom, 2 years ago!  We're waaaay overdue. (She looks pretty darned good, doesn't she??) There's always fun and events and socializing as well as family memories to be created at Fishhawk Lake. One ...

Fishhawk Lake-Here's What I Did, Here's What My Husband Did and Here's What I'm Gonna Do! Ever since I broke my wrist, buyers have been coming out of the woodwork to look at property. I should've done this back in February!  So while you lucky folks have been at RainCamp, I've been running around showing my listings and getting back to the office with renewed listing paperwork, calling for trios, calling to set up appointments and showing homes here at Fishhawk Lake as well as an incredible 64+AC country property first thing this morning. I had a brief moment the other day to take a shot of my blooming rhodies with Fishhawk Lake and cloudy blue skies in the background.   While I was busy showing property in the last few days, my workaholic husband was doing this: I've got two more hours...

Paying it Forward--A Little Something in Return I met a really kind man this week. A man who loves his dad and he felt compelled to write about his memories of his drives with his father to Fishhawk Lake. It is a gentle, loving and poignant piece. I asked him during our conversation if I could actually reprint the whole thing he had written in 2009 that appeared in the Portland paper, the Oregonian. He was so gracious and said, "whatever you want to do with it is completely okay with me." I was thrilled. "A Father's Day Reflection: Finding Fishhawk Lake" by Gary Mortensen is the name of it. My blogpost got featured as a result. The title of my post, which is also devoted to my hero, my dad who is in my heart always but no longer living:   Finding Fishhawk Lake A Touching  Tribute To a F...

My Brief Six Month History at ActiveRain in a Nutshell Looking back at my long tenure at ActiveRain(!), as a blogger anyway,(starting January, 2011) I am amazed at what has happened! For any new blogger out there, let me give you some words of encouragement. In my first six blogposts, I had no comments at all til the 6th one, got three and was THRILLED! My first eighteen blogs, I  had a total of 66 COMMENTS. That only averages out to 5 comments per blog. Well, I didn't know any better, so I was completely nonplussed about the whole thing. I just kept pluggin' away. Then number 19 came along. I was driving the 24 miles from my tiny real estate office to my home at Fishhawk Lake (which is where I do most of my work) and I got this silly little idea. I let it germinate, wrote it, changed t...
