One of our favorite local getaway spots is Howard Prairie Lake, only 20 minutes outside of Ashland Oregon. Opening day for the resort is April 15th, and we can hardly wait until it warms up a bit more and we can put our boat on the lake for the season. NPR does story on Oregon Shakespeare Festival It was a good day of news for our little town of Ashland Oregon. NPR Weekend edition did a niece story about how even in this economy, theOregon Shakespeare Festival had a record setting season last year. The great thing about Spring is that not only does it mean love is in the air...but the people who are looking to buy houses start getting the springtime bug. All Realtors know, and can feel the added buzz that comes with sunny days. Open houses are better attended, the phone rings more, the excitement level is higher. I have this idea that I think one day may be able to be studied. If there was a way to measure which days houses were shown and mash that with weather data, I would really like to have proof that sunny days are actually busier than cloudy days.  The scientist part of me wants to see proof of what the feeling side of believes to be true.   Howard Prairie Lake in Southern Oregon just outside Ashland Oregon is such a beautiful spot.  We love to go fishing at this lake and it is only about 45-50 minutes away from Medford Oregon.  The only bad thing about it being so close to town is that many other folks know about it and do not take care of it.  There is now no overnight camping on the back side of Howard Prairie Lake due to idiots trashing everything, chopping down trees, breaking glass beer bottles, tearing up the road, and much more.  I have been going up there for years and now no longer can but I have great memories up there.  I could still go up there but I don't like camp sites I go camp to get away from all the people and enjoy the beauty. Southern Oregon University which is where I played basketball and graduated won second place in wrestling and crowned two National Champions.  Mitchell Lofstedt slammed through the competition all year and set team records along the way. Barry Johnson won at 141 pounds he had the task of wrestling his team mate and won in overtime.  What a great feeling for the win and heartbreaking loss for Wirkuty.  Great job to all the Southern Oregon Coaches and wrestlers.   Cascade Christian boys basketball team finishes fourth at state great job fellas. Phoenix boys basketball team just beat #1 ranked Sweet Home to find themselves in the state tournament, go represent Southern Oregon Hoops guys! Southern Oregon University - Ashland Oregon.  Southern Oregon University's enrollment has exceeded record levels this winter this term.  The 5,644 students attending classes during the term that started Jan. 4 is the highest number for any winter term and the second highest number of students Southern Oregon University has ever had.   Southern Oregon University President Mary Cullinan said that their strong enrollment numbers were the result of "good planning, sustained effort, and many people working together to attract students and help them be successful."
