Congratulations Stirling-Rawdon, well done.Stirling Rawdon is going to be Canada's hockeyville 2012 and it is a well deserved award for a community that is so passionate about hockey. The entire area is excited about this news, a lot of work went into Stirling's bid to win this award. All of the entries were very worthy, and I'm very impressed that a tiny place like Duck Lake Saskatchewan, a First Nations community of about 600 people managed to get amost one million votes, however, at the end of the day, Stirling wins the prize. It was an exciting night in Stirling last night, I can attest to that. I hope I can get a ticket to the pre-season NHL game in Stirling next fall, I'm sure that will be an exciting night too.

The voting has been done, and we have a little more than seven hours to wait for the results. Stirling Ontario is in the running to be named Kraft Hockeyville 2012. This is a big deal for a small town like Stirling (pop. 1200 or so). Stirling is about 20 kms north of Trenton and has an extraordinarily active hockey community that has produced 4 NHLers in the last few years. Rob Ray, Matt Cooke, Eric Manlow, and Mark Dobson are all from Stirling, so you know that this town has a great hockey program. The local junior hockey organization, The Stirling Blues are very well supported here. At stake in this Kraft Hockeyville 2012 is $100,000 worth of upgrades to the local arena and an NHL pre-season game. It would mean quite a lot to Stirling to be able to host an NHL game. I'd go. I drove th...

I am all about supporting the local economy and getting involved with the festivals that Trenton and the surrounding communities host. Somehow though, the "water buffalo food festival" seems a little strange. I had never thought of water buffalo as one of the tastier animals this planet has to offer. The promotional poster for this festival is a bit strange too. I wonder if the poor buffalo know that they are about to be eaten by the good citizens of the Quinte area. I will probably suspend my judgement and head on up to Stirling on Saturday, August 28 and find out for myself just how delectable a water buffalo can be. I sure hope buddy there puts on a shirt before cooking up my meal though.

The Stirling Festival Theatre What makes the Quinte Area so unique is the fact that we have many smaller towns making up our surroundings. One small town just north of us is Stirling, Ontario.  Here is a picture of hub of Downtown Stirling the cover bridge.  It has a small gathering area in which Stirling hosts many activities throughout the year. Stirling is host to "The Stirling Fesitval Theatre" and many locals from the area love this experience.  There motto is:  Small Town Theatre with Big Talent.  The 2010 seasons schedule has been released and this year will be no different.  The theatre has had approximately $500,000.00 of renovations since being established.  It has had air conditioning installed, washrooms updated, a complete overhaul of the box office and many more. I persona...
