2010 Christmas Bird Count in Richmond Hill, ON. According to the officail Richmond Hill Naturalists website, the 111th Annual Christmas Bird Count is taking place this year on December 18. The Richmond Hill Naturalists are looking for people with bird feeders to open up their back yards for the Bird Counters. Bird Counters would visit volunteering households ONCE between 8am and 4:30pm on December 18. They will check the yard to count all the birds and bird species that may be seen there for just a few minutes – maybe longer if your yard is particularly exciting at that particular moment! Richmond Hill - New Sign Bylaw The Town of Richmond Hill council passed new sign bylaw 52-09 which came into force and effect on November 9, 2009.  The old sign bylaw 258-90 was repealed.  The sign bylaw is 40 pages in length. The Richmond Hill sign bylaw regulates the size, location and number of signs that are permitted on any property, business and/or at special events in the Town of Richmond Hill. I want to give another lesson learned from my time last week at Brian Buffini's Turning Point. Brian was giving the example of walking into a store, and say they had a sale on; Would the sales people be walking around with their heads down saying, "Oh no, there is a sale on!...I just don't like it when there is a sale!"? No, they would be pumped up and be saying, "How can I help you?" or "Good to see you. Thanks for stopping by...It is a great day, and there is an awesome sale on. I was looking at some you tube just tonight and I thought that this video was quite entertaining showing the history of real estate from the 1870's to present. Although it is about the US real estate market, ours does tend to mirror the US real estate market. Fortunately we have not experienced the drop in the ridee as severe to the subprime lending fallout in the US. Although we have seen a little ripple effect. What is it with the real estate market now? I think we are definitely seeing the effects of the US mortgage hoop-la that occurred earlier this year. I am seeing if a seller is not going to the trouble of having their homes staged and ready for showings, plus if they are not listening to the advice of their real estate agent, then they are going to be extremely frustrated. Sellers have to realise that this is not a seller's market and that they have to be listening to the advice of their realtor when objective information is provided. The statistics that we as realtors are reviewing on a daily, weekly, monthly basis give us the indication of the "temperature" of the real estate market. Every day I walk my dog, I pass a for sale sign which was there for the past 4 months. This is in a desirable area of Mill Pond in Richmond Hill. All you see is a double garage with a second story above it. You can't see the actual house or the main entrance to the house because of the huge life fence which provides privacy to the current owners. What they and the agent fail to realize is that when people come to look at a house which is listed at $649K, they expect to see a house, and not what looks like a garage with a second story addition. I have spoken to the agent and she said she will get back to me. That was 3 months ago. I can only imagine the frustration of the agent and the homeowners wondering why their house does not sell.
