Anyone who follows my blog year after year, or knows me at all, understands my love of all things Halloween.   We like to make up Goodie Bags for the kids and we normally include a card letting the parents know where it came from (so they know it is safe)   Last year we also began to include jokes for the kids -  the parents appreciated them more than the kids I think!  At least they gave the biggest laughs when the kids shared them! Here are a few we're putting in the bags this year: What's a monster's favorite play? Romeo and Ghouliet What do you get when you cross Bambi with a ghost? Bamboo What's do you call a haunted chicken? A poultry-geist Why do mummies make excellent spies? They're good at keeping things under wraps What kind of monster is safe to put in the washing machine? A ...

Gananoque, ON Our Community really gets into the spirit of Halloween and each year I like to drive my 83 year old Mother around our Town of Gananoque looking at all the decorated houses.  Obviously some of the homes are done up for nighttime but I took a few photos of some of the more memorable daytime ones and I will be sending a note to each of the homeowners of the properties below, to thank them and applaud their spirit!  If you find yourself in the Gananoque area, take a drive past some of these ghoul-friendly homes and then give me, Susan Emo, a call and I'll keep the home buying/selling business from being too scary!!! 315 Elizabeth Drive: 225 John St: 360 Charles St North: 235 Sydenham St: 20 Victoria St: 275 Victoria St: 685 Hillside Drive: 395 James St: 381 Georgiana St:

In our part of the world it has been a cold and damp weekend with the wind blowing a gale!   The leaves have only just begun to colour and the wind and rain are dashing them to the ground already. It has dropped down in temperature, not enough for the furnace to come on but enough to want a nice fire to make the room cozy. Our fireplaces are natural gas but many of my neighbours still have wood burning apparatus.  After enjoying my first pumpkin pie of the season . . . I stepped outside a few moments ago with the dogs and there it was . . . the smell of autumn . . . Wood smoke hanging in the air! I just love that smell even though I choose not to deal with the all the inconvenience of wood;  chopping, stacking, lugging to the fireplace, fighting to get it lit (and keep lit!) dealing wit...

Whoo Hoooooooo . . . I hear the train a comin, it's comin round the bend, it's comin on the 3rd track that we haven't had since way back when . . . In the last century, maybe two, The Town of Gananoque had a train that came right into the middle of town.  It was a town filled with industrialists and vacationers galore . . . That train now has a place of honour in the centre of our town overlooking our Centenial Park on the Gananoque River. But for many reasons, our train station had to follow the direction of the new tracks and that took us a little outside of the town.  A new sub-station was built and trains came and went with little inconvenience to the passengers.  If the schedule didn't quite suit, the Kingston or Brockville stations were just to the West and East, down the highway ...

A man and his wife, now in their 60's, were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.  On their special day a good fairy came to them and said that because they had been so good to each other, each one of them could have one wish.   The wife wished for a trip around the world with her husband. Whoosh!  Immediately she had airline/cruise tickets in her hands.               The man wished for a female companion 30 years younger . . . Whoosh . . .               immediately he turned ninety!!           Gotta love a fairy with a sense of humour :0)
