Gananoque, On This is what's cooking in Gananoque tonite at Emo's Eating Emporium :0)  Lamb Steaks with Vermouth and Rosemary    6 Lamb steaks from the boned rib OR loin, trimmed into Round steaks 1" thick 1 Clove garlic, minced 1 ts Salt 1/4 ts Pepper 1 ts Finely chopped fresh rosemary  or 1/2 ts Chopped dried rosemary   3 tb Butter 1 Onion, chopped 2 tb Chopped shallot 1/2 ts Grated lemon peel 1/2 lb Small mushrooms 1/2 c Dry vermouth 3 tb Minced fresh parsley -(garnish) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Gananoque, On We are so fortunate to be living in Gananoque in a gorgeous old heritage home on the prettiest street in town: Pine St.  Our home was built in the 1890's and this lovely sun porch was added in 1905.  It is enclosed with glass during the winter months but we practically live out here from Mother's Day to Halloween!  I even meet clients on my sun porch over a glass of iced tea!!   I love to dine out here in the twilight, water feature trickling in the background, the crickets chirping and the street so quiet and peaceful.  We have huge shade trees on our street and to hear a gentle breeze rippling through the leaves, bliss! I am so thankful on this Thursday for my June flowers!  My climbing roses are coming along beautifully and soon my front porch will be covered with sweet pea and morning glories.  We dine on this porch when the sun is too hot on the back deck.  It is enclosed with windows from Halloween to Mother's Day each year but neighbours tell us we were the first in over 50 years to take the windows out.  The porch was a new addition to the home in 1905 and we appreciate the afterthought so very much :0)  I'll take some photos of the interior later today. Gananoque, On This July 2nd to the 4th, our small town of 5200 people will see 7500 Bikers arrive for the 6th annual River Rat Rally and Ribfest.  This year they will meet at the waterfront on the site of the former Festival of the Islands.  The event will feature stunt drivers, a show and shine, loud pipes and a rally through the area.  There will be no food available at the riverfront site because the organizers say "there are enough restaurants around and with the Rib Fest going on too, we want to encourage the bikers to patronize the local establishments".  There will be upwards of 50 vendors and the show and shine and loud pipes along with a live band on tap for Saturday. Gananoque, On Our home is known as Emo's Eating Emporium!  Here is a recipe I'm sure you'll love as much as we do: Antipasti Salad 4 cups penne pasta1/2 cup small marinated mushrooms, drained1/2 cup large pimento-stuffed green olives, sliced1/2 cup marinated artichoke hearts, drained and chopped1/2 cup oil-packed sun dried tomatoes, drained and chopped2 tbsp olive oil (I use what I drained off above)2 cloves garlic, minced1/2 tsp salt1/4 tsp black pepper1 tub of bocconcini cheese, drained and sliced (in Canada it is 200g)1/3 cup fresh basil leaves, shreddedFreshly grated Parmesn Cheese In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook penne for 8 - 10 minutes, until tender but still firm.  Drain well.  In the pot used to cook pasta, stir together mucrooms, olives, artichokes, tomatoes, oil, ... 06/05/2010

Gananoque, On I had the most refreshing drink today and thought you'd like try one too!  If you like cucumbers, this is the beverage for you:                                                     Serves 4 (or 2 if you're like me!) 2 large cucumbers1/2 cup of gin4 teaspoons fresh lime juice1 tablespoon sugar1 cup of ice cubes4 lime slices Slice four 1/4 inch thick slices from 1 cucumber.  Peel and coarsely chop remaining cucumbers.  Transfer to food processor and pur'ee until smooth.  Pour through fne srainer set over large bowl, pressing on solids in strainer.  Discard solids in strainer. Mix 1 cup cucumber juice, gin, lime juice, and sugar in pitcher.  Stir until sugar dissolves.  Add ice, mix well.  Immediately strain mixture into 4 martini glasses and garnish with lime and cucumber sli... 06/03/2010
