Yesterday I bloomed where I was planted . . . planted in 6 foot snow banks in my driveway!!! Today, I awoke to a fresh canvas after another 6" of snow came down overnight! I know my flowers will surface again in a month or so when the snow starts to melt so today, I went a different route . . . Nice to see the smiles as people pass by - it's Winter people - that's how we roll here in the 1000 Islands :)

WHAT COMES FIRST CHRISTMAS OR REMEMBRANCE (OR VETERAN'S DAY) ?? We're done with Halloween but the pumpkins are still out with this gorgeous Indian Summer we're enjoying. Up here in Canada we've also already enjoyed our Thanksgiving. So, what is the next holiday? If you believe all the shops and stores, the next event is Christmas. WRONG! The next day to honour is Remembrance Day or Veteran's Day, depending on where you live.  We're proud of our military.  We're proud of our Veterans. Please hold off on your Christmas decorations until at least after November 11th. We owe it to those who fought for us! (my photo is right side up on my ipad, iphone but not on my PC - I apologize!) Save the Ho Ho Ho til December, please?

If you're like my family, grilling works up an appetite!  You might just need to sustain yourself on cubes of beef dipped in Bloody Mary (or Caesar) Sauce :) First of all you need to get the dipping sauce made: Heat some olive oil in a small pot over medium high heat.  Add in 1 small, finely diced onion and saute for 5 minutes.  Add in 1/2 cup of Vodka - sample it if you like to make sure it hasn't gone off !! Bring to a boil and reduce by half.  Add in 2 TBSP of Lea and Perrins (otherwise known as Worcestershire Sauce), at least 2 tsp of Hot Sauce, 1 cup of crushed tomatoes, and 1 heaping tsp of horseradish. Stir to combine and return to a simmer.  Add S & P to taste. If you prefer a Bloody Caesar, add in a splash of Clam Juice!   Now for the BEEF . . . Cut your Beef Sirloin into large...

We received a call from our local florist to say there were flowers for us.  With it being December and in Canada, flowers don't get delivered unless someone is at home and ready to receive them! At least that is the way with Cliff's Garden Florist at 84 Charles St. North, in Gananoque. They are so considerate and service is top notch, every month of the year.  We arranged to pop in and collect the arrangement ourselves as we were passing by.  To thank us, there was a beautiful poinsettia, all wrapped up and ready to go too.  Unnecessary but very much appreciated! No matter what the budget, Cliff's will have a fresh and gorgeous arrangement ready for delivery so give them a call if you want a special Christmas table arrangement for someone you love in the Gananoque area - here's the bea...

There are so many wonderful events that take place this time of the year in this tiny town of ours: Gananoque. Our local  My FM station 99.9 Gananoque asked on their FB page this morning for us to share our favourite Christmas song.  Mine has always been "I'll Be Home For Christmas" - especially when I was living in Europe and homesick! To my delight and surprise, I received a call from Michael Bartlett, General Manager of the station telling me my song choice had been chosen and that I'd won 2 tickets to tonight's concert :) From the band's website: "Country Christmas A two-hour presentation of seasonal songs, inspirational stories and lots of family fun that will open your heart to the joy of the Christmas spirit. I know there are many of you who garden regularly and may get a giggle out of how delighted I am with my first tomato!!! I swear there are hundreds of green ones and this lone little yellow just glowed from the interior of the plant.   Well, it did not last too long . . . A little virgin olive oil . . . a little balsamic vinegar . . . fresh picked basil leaves from my own crop . . . some fresh mozzarella . . . and my yellow grape tomato . . . A Feast for First Time Farmers !  LOL

It is so hot and humid I thought my Aussies needed a cool treat (other than their paddling pool!)  You know, Cool Treats for Cool Dogs!! Last night I had some leftover chicken broth so I thought Pupcicles would be perfect for them.   I poured it into two plastic tumblers and stuck them in the freezer. When they were at the slushy stage I stuck a dried duck strip treat in the centre, for the stick!  (not the duck strips from China, but made in Canada) I just `served` them in a shady part of the lawn and they LOVED their cool summer treats!! Unfortunately, I didn`t get a Before Photo :( The next time I make them (tonite) I am going to break up little bits and pieces of treats and have them throughout the ice so they can have fun finding the pieces. HAPPY GANANOQUE SELLERS . . . There is nothing more rewarding or satisfying than to share with my Sellers that their Gananoque home has been SOLD! This turn-key Townhouse is a very sound investment for the new owners and I'm sure they're going to love it as much as the Seller did! The Gananoque market is a wee bit different this year but we still have eager Buyers and Sellers looking forward to their next move.  I'm happy to be involved in the process and find it an honour and a privilege to assist my neighbours in town, or out of town. My name is Susan Emo and I am a Realtor!

First of all . . .   Happy Easter to my AR family!  I hope you have been enjoying a wonderful long weekend with family and friends with good food and good times! We had our family dinner last night;  extended families make you grab whatever date is going to work for the majority! The other day, I was still unsure of what we'd be having - see post here.  Finally, fresh salmon became the chosen main entree and then the fun began with all the sides to go with it.    Anyone who knows me, knows that I like to make something new and rarely repeat recipes other than to improve upon them :) One of the new faves for the family is my Potato Nests filled with a Creamy Spinach with Goat Cheese mixture -   OMG was this good!!! Sun dried tomatoes gave it the extra little kick that was needed and the ...

Looks like I'm having Easter Dinner at our house in Gananoque again this year and it looks like I won't be having the traditional Baked Ham or Roast Turkey this year. So, this begs the question . . . What are you making for Easter this year? Last year I served Salmon Bundles and they were very well received.  Can you go wrong with Puff Pastry,Sockeye salmon, spring asparagus, egg, lemon, and fresh dill ?  I think not. But, with the same guests arriving this year, I really don't want a re-run!! I would love to serve a gorgeous Leg of Lamb but I know only 3 of us would appreciate it. I would love to serve a beautiful big Roast Beef - but no one can agree on how over cooked it should be.  (I like rare!!!) We are porked out as we've all been eating pork all winter and also just had it for o...
