So when is freedom of speech to free? The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom.  So where do we draw the line? Who are you or I to say what others speak, write, and print? I wrote a blog the other day A Feel Good Story ......Turned Tragic it was about a local young Marine that was killed in Afghanistan. It was my right to print it he was fighting for my right to do this he gave his life for me to do it.  This morning I'm reading the paper again and I come across another article on the young man (Lance Cpl. David Raymond Baker) But this was not so much about him but about a church. Radical church to protest at Baker funeral needless to say I clicked on it and read i...

Last week I was out working in the garage and I'm listening to the radio and the DJ starts telling the story of a local mom who didn't have the money to fly to California to see her son. He was coming home from his 1st tour in Afghanistan. The next thing you know people started calling the radio station (WKKY in Geneva) and donating money for a plane ticket for this Marine mom to fly out to Camp Pendleton in California to see him. Within hours radio listeners and local business's donated enough money for Laurie Lewkoski to go see her son Marine Lance Cpl. David Baker.  The local Radio Station and the people of the community stepped right up to help a local family out. The community gave so much the DJ said ok we don't need no more we have enough to get her to her son.  This was a real ...

It was 3 AM and I'd just crawled back into bed after my tenth, or so it seemed, trip to the bathroom.  All of a sudden, I heard the weather siren, a.k.a. air raid drill siren for those of us who lived during the Cold War.  I couldn't believe my ears, so I went to the window, opened it, confirmed what I thought I'd heard, and mumbled "Oh, %@*$" under my breath.  The first thing I did was grab my cordless and cell phones, then headed downstairs.  Buddy followed obediently; Dudley, who is old, took his good old time.  I thought, no, this isn't happening, so I opened the front door.  All was calm, but then there's the calm before the storm.  I ran down the basement stairs, again with Buddy joining me willingly.  Dudley wasn't the least bit cooperative; he hates the open-back stairs.  As I s...

The Painesville City Local School District recently announced the proposed opening of one of its new schools as a "choice" school with an optional year-round calendar.  Painesville Schools is currently undergoing a complete transformation with the construction of six new school buildings to be completed by 2009.  The opening of these new schools creates opportunities for the district to change and improve the way things have been done in the past.  Maple Elementary, chosen as the pilot school for this program, will open in late August 2008 and follow the traditional calendar the first year.  Parents and staff will work through the year to develop the year-round calendar for full implementation in the 2009-2010 school year.  Maple School was chosen as the pilot school because of its cent...

I am a City of Painesville real estate expert.  I am also a resident.  I've lived in Painesville for more than thirty years and love it here!  Can't imagine living anywhere else.   We're a community of about 18,000, located approximately 30 miles east of Cleveland.  Painesville is one of the few communities to boast its own electrical, water and sewer plants.  We recently became a college football town with the signing of the agreement between the City and Lake Erie College for use of the football stadium in Kiwanis Park.  Last, but certainly not least, five new schools are being built, replacing all the current schools.  The first new school will open August 2007, with the high school completing the project in 2010 (watch the progress at http://www.painesville-city.k12.oh.us/).Over the...
