What’s Ahead For Mortgage Rates This Week – June 6, 2016 Last week’s housing related news was limited to Construction Spending and Freddie Mac’s mortgage rates survey, but labor reports suggested an economic slowdown may be in the works.Construction Spending Slips in April, Mortgage Rates MixedAccording to the Commerce Department, overall construction spending slipped in April to -1.80 percent as compared to March’s reading of +1.50 percent and May’s expected reading of +0.70 percent. Residential construction spending was 1.50 percent lower, which doesn’t help ongoing shortages of available single-family homes. Fun New York Fact: It's the 44th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival If I could pick an era to be part of, I always said it would be during the 60's and 70's, life was so simply and inoccent and it seems like postive new movements were always coming about. Friday evening, August 15, Richie Havens got up on stage and officially started the Woodstock Festival. The music started up again on Saturday with Quill and continued non-stop until Sunday morning around 9 am. The day of psychedelic bands continued with such musicians as Santana, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, and The Who, to name just a few. The last musician to end the festival was Jimi Hendrix. It was estimated that about 500,000 people made it to the festival and by Sunday night about 25,000 remained. Now that's a Party!   08/14/2013

I've been seeing a slight trend lately in upstate New York real estate activity, particularly in Sullivan County properties. Both sales and listings are seeing a rise as the winter season ends and the busy spring buying season begins. Why it is ticking upward is anybody's guess. Of course, I have a theory. A lot of the properties I see getting interest, and many of the Sullivan County properties we have listed in our portfolio are second home or summer getaways. The Rivoli Theatre located on Laurel Avenue & Route 42 in South Fallsburg was built in 1923.  It was a major source of both live and film entertainment during those years of Jewish summer resorts in this region of the Catskill Mountains.  The front marquee is a 3 sided neon sign supported by chains with a vertical neon sign on the front.  The lobby and foyer are in their original size and shape but have been renovated over the years with newer materials.   In 2001 the Rivoli was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Sales in the Ulster County residential market surged again in the second quarter, with transactions up 46.3% from last year and 65.3% from the fi rst quarter. Although the Home Buyer Tax Credit had some impact in driving those numbers, Ulster County buyers had access to the tax credit for all of 2009, so many buyers motivated by the credit had already purchased last year. Although pricing is now down 28.1% from the height of the market in late 2007, and is now down to 2003-04 levels, we've now seen pricing stabilize at the $235,000 range for the past year.
