Cayuga County, NY Real Estate News

By Grant Schneider, Your Coach Helping You Create Successful Outcomes
(Performance Development Strategies)
The group of 11 finger lakes in Central Upper New York State is home to some of the great wineries.  This area is has been called the Champaigne District.   Since I was giving a presentation at the Turning Stone Casino on Monday we decided to spend Sunday along Cayuga Lake.  Cayuga and Seneca are the two largest lakes of the Finger Lakes.  This is a great time of year to drive in the Finger Lakes region.  We stopped for wine tasting at a number of wineries and then bought our supply of wine for the rest of the year.  All in all a beautiful day.  Then we returned to the Turning Stone Casino and actually won some money. Information and pictures provided by Grant Schneider, Performance Development Strategies.  Would you like to know how to make your local business thrive?  Contact us!

Come and celebrate Auburn's First Founders Day Celebration with a special tribute to the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Statehood of Alaska.  This  Saturday, June 6th, the parade begins at 11 a.m..... That's right, Auburn is the home of Secretary of State, William H. Seward, whose insight caused the USA to buy Alaska from Russia in 1867.  Labeled at the time as "Seward's Folly", today we consider his insight as foresight.  Anyway, this Saturday, Auburn is celebrating with a parade at 11 a.m. and special activities including balloon art, book signings, woodsmen competition, dog sled demos, a William Seward Play and Theodore Case Film Festival, arts and craftes , food, and more, more, more!!!!! And the Special Guest for the day will be Alaska's governor, Sarah Palin. So, if you're wondering ...

Here in the Finger Lakes area we have weathered this long cold winter without batting an eyelash. But now could it actually be Spring peeking around the corner? The days are longer and the temperatures are slowly but steadily rising. This is my favorite time of year. I relish the warm sun and the smell of mud as the snow melts. With spring comes a fresh new start. Spring signifies a fresh start in the Real Estate world too especially here in upstate New York where everyone seems to hibernate for the winter. If you are thinking about selling your house now is the time to get started. In addition to the weather changing this year home seller's also have the first time home buyer's credit on their side. Qualified buyers are looking for property and they are looking now. Don't miss out on t...

Dear Community: I have been swamped with calls from you about the Cayuga County re-assessment.  I know that many of you are very surprised and maybe that's an understatement.  About a year ago the Cayuga County Office of Real Property Services (ORPS) records were opened up and made public.  I just want to share this with you so that you are aware and able to go in and see what information the assessor has about your property on record.  There are many properties involved and as when you are doing anything in this volume there can be mistakes made. Check out your information and make sure the assessor has the correct information.   It is very easy to check this out.  If you are unlucky enough to be on dial up remember the local libraries have high speed access either wireless ( aurora - ...

Homeowners, who think it is normal for their dryer to take more than one cycle to dry clothes, think again. Lint accumulation or blockage in the vent is a known cause of dryers running inefficiently. While consumers are aware of the need to conserve energy, they are still unaware that yearly dryer and dryer vent maintenance can help cut energy bills as well as prevent dryer fires.  The average home spends about $1900 on energy costs every year, according to research conducted by Energy Star, a program managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy. As energy costs increase, consumers need to be made aware of the importance of proper cleaning and maintenance of all their appliances.  Here are some tips for maintaining the clo...

In New York State many parties take part in a Real Estate Closing. You have the seller's agent, the buyer's agent, the lender, the seller's attorney, the buyer's attorney, the bank attorney, the appraiser the abstract company the surveyor... the list could go on.With all of these different parties involved in the closing it is important for the Real Estate Agent to carefully choose who they are recommending their clients to. I quickly realized that most of my clients depend on me to refer them to a lender and an attorney. I also realized that not all mortgage brokers and not all attorneys are created equal!Since our referrals and recommendations mean so much to our clients it is important for us agents to partner ourselves with the best in the industry.  When I refer a mortgage broker t...

Auburn Sherlock Homes Real Estate is located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of central New York.  We are in the center of the Auburn business district making a short drive to any of the outlying areas. For those not in the "know", Auburn is at the north end of Owasco Lake and only 10 minutes from Cayuga Lake to the west and Skaneateles Lake to the east and 45 minutes from Lake Ontario to the north and from Ithaca (home of the Big Red) to the south.  Our region is an outdoor paradise.  National Parks, bird sanctuaries, activiites such as boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, and skating are a hop, skip and a jump away.  Like history???, we have the Seward house, Cayuga Museum (home of the talking pictures), and the Harriet Tubman  home in Auburn alone.  And, not...
