It is amazing that a lot of times I see really bad pics of homes on MLS . Fuzzy pics, dark pics, no pics...you name it and you know there are really bad ones out there. Sometimes I'm just shaking my head and wonder what some listing agents are thinking? Or maybe that is the problem, they don't. First impression of a good listing are GOOD pics !!! After I got over the initial shock and inconvenience of not being able to park quickly at Houst Hardware and grab the must-have items I seem to need nearly every day, I really loved the Woodstock Farm Festival. You can grab a bounty of fresh fruits and veggies and meander through the myriad of chocolate, vintage clothing and booths featuring local goods.  The restaurants are bustling and if you are a meat lover then swing by the Woodstock Meat Store for a little BBQ and music.  If they start serving grilled veggie dogs I might linger longer! As a 35 year old, I have been living in the country all my life.  Up until just a few years ago, I have never seen a Black Bear in a public area or close to my home.  Now they are everywhere.  Within the last few years, things have changed both in the population and the feeding habits of the Black Bear found in Woodstock and the Hudson Valley area.  Bears are now more prevalent in public areas than ever and pose a small problem to those who are unfamiliar with exactly how to co-exist. One of Ulster County's most beautiful mountain destinations has had its' Forest Preserve lands near its southern terminus (boundary) on Woodstock's Overlook Mountain significantly increased.  The newly acquired real estate parcels are contiguous to existing state lands within the Overlook Mountain unit The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has made a three lot real estate purchase on Overlook Mountain in Woodstock that will help protect the mountain, as well as make it an even more popular attraction for mountain bikers, hikers and nature enthusiasts. Continuing with my discussion or ranting about Spring.  It's definitely here.  All the land surrounding my house on the mountain have been a sea of daffodils for the past week or so.  So, it's definitely here.  Along with the daffodils came a sudden pop of leaves on the trees, that sudden burst of Spring Green!  It's still a little on the chilly side.  I reluctantly have kept my heat on in the evening . . .  Living in the country, you resist turning your heat on once it's Spring!!  So now that it's officially here so are all the rituals of spring. My least favorite - Cleaning the yard.  It's always amazing what manages to pop out of the ground once the snow finally disappears.  Yes, I know it didn't actually pop out of the ground but it did suddenly appear.  The sneakers my son couldn't... 05/02/2008

I've been living in Woodstock since 1971 and there's one thing I've noticed after many years - Spring is never really here when the calender says it is.  The other day I was getting ready to go out and looked of my window and I felt as though I was in the center of one of those glass globes with the snow.  It was coming down pretty heavily (It does always come down doesn't it?)  It was beautiful but I was ready for the spring.  I went out for the day and by the time I drove from my home to the Village of Woodstock, around 7 miles, the snow was almost gone.  I thought about it and remembered how I always feel this time of year.  I'm ready for the sun to burst through and the warm us all up.  I looked at the positive aspect of our "Non-Spring".  I went outside and looked for the signs of ... 04/02/2008

Yesterday I was in the office saying how I just noticed the daffodils pushing up through the ground in my front yard and I couldn't wait for the smell and sight of the first beautiful glorious flowers to arrive. My clients arrived and I went out showing mostly commercial properties but they did want to see this one house in the Byrdcliffe area of Woodstock. We drove up to the house and went inside and decided to go out the side door to check out the gorgeous rock outcroppings and the stream and..... in the side garden there they were tons of the most welcomed little white snowdrops (and a little yellow flower that I have to find out what it is). It was Spring of '03 and my best friend who just purchased her first house in Woodstock has invited me and 10+ other city girl friends to stay over Easter weekend.The air was so fresh, the streams were streaming with fresh, crystal clear water from the mountains. My dogs ( they were still puppies) were just running around like little rabbits thru the property with big smiles in their faces. I felt like 10 years old again on a school trip with my friends.  We explored our first day with a beautiful AM hike, 5 Miles up hill !!! Woodstock, Colony of the Arts last night did not disappoint. We had Jeffrey Gaines at the Colony Cafe, Ars so long at the Kleinart and the Gashouse Gorillas at the Bearsville Theatre. I chose to go to the Bearsville Theatre. WOW! What a great band they had audience bobbing, tapping and out & out dancing. They played "Jump Blues" style of music which is definitely something they make their own. Crusher Carmean played a very cool self made aluminum stand up bass, Tim on sax, Hiro Suzuki on Guild guitar, Dan Hickey on drums and Rick Fink singing, shouting,  jumping and getting out in the audience. I will keep my eye out to see when they will be playing again and keep all you locals posted. Not a loca? Look for them in your area.
