Another year completed!  RJ Smith Realty wow what a great team effort to help the relay in 2008! For the past few months we have been collecting donations, trading in our own clothes for money and showing off our talents with our bowling skills and then the day was here....  We all joined in on a team effort to help set up our team site the morning of June 14, which included items to comfort and fuel us for our journey to fight back, celebrate and remember.  The RJ Smith Realty - Real Estate Solutions Team as of 6am this morning raised a total of $5,511.00! Wow what a great amount for a smaller team.  We also participated in the pedometer challenge that went on continually during the walk at the end of the event they check the pedometer to see who had the most steps.  Well RJ Smith Rea...

One of the most attractive sights of our rural locations are open fields and beautiful farms.  Nothing is prettier than coming over a rise to see a herd of cattle grazing or an orchard of fruit trees reaching as far as the eye can see.  It is a draw that encourages many people to move nearby for a chance at the simple life but if you are planning to move to a location with working agricultural properties you need to be aware of the "facts of life" in a farming location. As a potential home buyer you need to be prepared for the common practices of our farmers and ranchers and realize that they are not going to change their way of living for you just because you bought the property next door. Farmers get up and start work early every day.  They don't often have the luxury of a day off an...

How Dark Is Dark?  Thoughts About Nights In the Country. It is beautiful at night in more rural areas.  You will see more stars than you have ever seen before.  It is truly an amazing sight when I go outside and look up on a clear night.  There are more shooting stars to wish upon and a clearer view of the constellations.  The reason for this is that the further away from the lights of the city and more heavily populated suburbs the less artificial light is put out into the night. When you are closer to any highly populated area the lights from buildings, street lighting, and other man made structures masks the night sky and does not allow the much further light sources from the stars to shine through.    One of the things that many potential home buyers in a rural area don't think abo...

I want land lots of land...Are you sure? This is my front yard.  At 11 Acres this is only a small part of my land.  There is another huge hay field beyond those trees before we get to the street. One of the first things that you will need to decide as you move to the country is "How much land do you want to buy?"  Many people want to move to a rural area because they want more space.  They come from a city where there is extremely dense building or a suburban development where the lot size is often very small and they come out here to put some distance between them and their neighbors.  Sometimes the amount of space they ask for is a lot more than they are prepared for.  One of the first trips out to look at homes with your buyer's agent should be to some houses with different lot sizes....

I Love Living in the Country. This is my driveway. It is longer than some blocks in the city.   (You will note that it is not paved and it does require a lot of mantainance) I moved here from my original hometown in suburban Bergen County NJ to find a very different life.  I have many clients who have come from New York City and areas closely surrounding it that have found some unexpected challenges when learning how to live in this area.  Moving to a more rural location may be quite an adjustment for someone who is used to living in a place with more dense population, municipal services, more readily accessible transportation, and frankly a lot of noise. I know you may think that a lack of noise is a good thing but the "quite" can be one of the more difficult adjustments to make when mo...
