A BLESSING FOR THE THANKSGIVING MEAL Bountiful God, You have blessed us in many ways, In the beauty and richness of our land, And in the freedom we enjoy. You have given us even greater gifts In our family who loves and cares for us And in the grace which allows us to know and believe in you. May we be grateful for all our blessings Not just today, but every day. Help us to turn our gratitude into action By caring for those in need And by working for a more just society. Bless the wonderful meal we will enjoy today and the merriment of those at table. Be with all those we love who are not with us at this time.   If I saved $220 this year I would buy 2 new roses - Dick Clark Rose (left) and Chihuly Rose(right).  Both roses go through a constant change of colors that no two roses are alike.  Dick Clark is a changing pinkish red rose while Chiluly is a yellow/orange colored rose.  Both roses are great subject to photograph and to capture their fleeting beauty.  These roses will also enhance my rose garden where I hold a fundraising event in the summer with all proceeds going to a charitable organization in my community.  This has been a tradition I started 18 years ago.  These two beautiful roses will cost me about $40.   With the $180 left, I will donate it to my favorite charity - The CSAC Food Drive.  I went to an ecumenical thanksgiving service last Sunday and the president of the Interrelig...

Now that the summer is gone but not forgotten, we are still enjoying the roses in the garden.  As long as the weather stays mild, the roses will keep on blooming.  I walked around the garden this morning and there were some lovely roses still in bloom.        Here is "Tess of the d'Urbervilles rose I just picked  up this morning.  It's smaller than the spring bloom but more intense in color.         Here is a lovely poem written by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) that carries my sentiment for the season.                                         THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER                                       ‘Tis the last rose of summer                                     Left blooming alone;                                     All her lovely companions                                     Are fa...

For 20 some odd years, I have been involved with the Interreligious and Human Needs Council in Oyster Bay, NY, having served as President in the 90's and the last 18 years of that association, I have also been the Treasurer of the Community Social Action Committee, an arm of the IHNC and in charge of the Holiday Food Drive.  Every year, we ask for food donations and cash donations to buy food gift certificates which total $10,000 more or less.  Every year, the community answers our call.  Last year donation which will be used this year was only $8000 and we have more needy persons to serve this year.  Collection this year which will be used next year is very disappointing.  So far, we have only received $2,200 so far.   In the caring community of Oyster Bay-East Norwich, plans for the...

I was in the middle of cooking dinner when the lights went off. Luckily I have a gas stove and I was able to finish cooking the dinner. That’s one thing I recommend to anyone. If you have an electric stove and you have a gas line on the street, convert into gas stove and connect to the gas line. At least you’ll be able to cook during blackouts. Do you know how dependent we are on electricity? Look around the house. Everything or almost everything is powered by electricity. So when the electric goes off, we are helpless. We cannot do much. I tried to read by candlelight but could not see too well so I gave up. People who watch TV all night have nothing to do. As far as I can remember, we only had three blackouts since we moved into my home 31 years ago - today, a month ago and several ye...

The Village of Mill Neck, NY 11765 is located on the North Shore of Long Island in the Town of Oyster Bay.  Mill Neck ranks #21 this year on the Forbes list of the most expensive zip codes in the United States.  Mill Neck, NY is probably where most of the wealthy homeowners on the North Shore of Long Island are concentrated. The claim that to live in Mill Neck, NY is to live in one of the most expensive addresses in the United States is half the truth.   I live in Oyster Bay for almost 40 years now and know the town and the surrounding areas very well.  Mill Neck, NY is right next to Oyster Bay and I have some friends who live in the Mill Neck, NY.  Some are very wealthy and some are just plain ordinary folks.    Homes in Mill Neck, NY 11765 zip code are not all in the million dollar ...

I was walking to the Oyster Festival one year and was surprised to see a big truck with the MLSLI.com banner parked in front of Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in downtown Oyster Bay, NY.  This is the front spot as you round the bend to the street leading to the Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay.  You could not miss it especially if you got the red traffic light.  What a perfect spot for an advertisement.  All festival goers to the Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay, NY, around 200,000 people in a two-day event would see this big billboard-like advertisement.  That's our dues money at work.  Copyright © 2010.  By Rosalinda Morgan, "The Rose Lady".  All rights reserved. *GREAT ADVERTISING MEDIUM FOR MULTIPLE LISTING SERVICE OF LONG ISLAND, NY*     If you are interested in selling or buying...
