The Clinton Hill Coops - A Great Place to Live in Brooklyn, New York If you're looking for a great place to live in Brooklyn, I highly recomment the Clinton Hill Co-op Apartments in Clinton Hill Brooklyn!  There are many features about the co-op that make it a desirable place to buy in Brooklyn. You can purchase a large one bedroom apartment with plenty of light in the $285,000 to $350,000 range and an even larger two bedroom apartment for between $375,000 to $450,000.  Due to the recent recession and housing marking bubble burst, this is a decrease in pricing for the coop, which is great for anyone looking to buy now. The Clinton Hill Co-ops consists of 12 buildings split up into two campuses, the North Campus on Clinton Avenue between Myrtle and Willoughby Avenues and The South Campus...

According to a story by the Associated Press, Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior, announced Monday that the National Park Service will develop the nation's largest urban campground at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. Floyd Bennett Field was the New York City's first municipal airport that was used by Howard Hughes and Amelia Earhart in days gone by, but has not been used as an airport in many years though NYPD uses it to house some of it's fleet of helicopters> Floyd Bennett Field now has 5 campsites, several nature walks, and is heavily used for bird watching and as a launch for kayak expeditions into Jamaica Bay. The Park Service intends on expanding the 5 campsites to 90 over the next two years and may ultimately grow to 600 campsites. "You don't even realize you're in the middle...

Do You Own A Vacant House? – List it with Someone Who Cares I’ve had the privilege to work with sellers who own a vacant home or apartment in Brooklyn, NY.  Most Realtors will jump at the chance to list a vacant property because they’re so easy to show, but being responsible for someone else's empty house takes a lot of dedication. A local agent recently had a vacant house he was selling stripped of a lot of expensive items.   All the copper plumbing, appliances, and cabinets (even the medicine cabinet in the bathroom) were taken as well as smaller items like glass doorknobs.  Since there was no sign of a break in, a window inadvertently left unlocked seemed to be the robber’s way in. When I list a vacant property I take keeping it as safe and secure as possible very seriously.  Here’s ...

Why Choose A Brooklyn Realtor to Sell Your Brooklyn Home? When you become a licensed real estate agent in the State of New York, you have the ability to sell real estate anywhere in the state, from Staten Island at the southernmost tip to Plattsburgh up north. Most real estate agents and brokers realize that selling in their own neighborhood makes the most sense because they know the area and its convenient to where they live.  So as seller, or a buyer for that matter, does it make sense to hire a Realtor who lives and works many miles away, or in the case of New York City, in another Borough? Here are 8 reasons why you should choose a Brooklyn based Realtor to Sell your Brooklyn Home. #1 - Will an agent who has to face New York City traffic over a long distance really make showing your...

One of the things I love to do in Brooklyn is go to the many house tours that many neighborhoods, such as Clinton Hill, Crown Heights and Lefferts Manor, hold each year. On Sunday, June 5, 2011 between Noon and 5 pm, the Lefferts Manor Association is holding its 41st Annual Prospect Lefferts Gardens House & Garden Tour.   For $25 ($20 if you buy a ticket in advance) you can tour eight turn-of-the 20th-century residences and several private gardens. Buried deep in the heart of Prospect Lefferts Gardens is Prospect Manor, an eight-block rectangle containing some of the most beautiful homes (you might even call some them mansions) you’ll find anywhere. Besides the wonderful tour, you will also be able to enjoy complimentary refreshments, a wine tasting and discounts at several local mercha...

Been living out of my backpack for the last five days on an excellent adventure... I'm sorting through some interesting photographs I took with my gal pal Emelia who is also a photographer. We've been chatting about possibly filming a few scenes in Brooklyn, NY and Mexico so I've been casing New York City for some Zagat rated Mexican dining with my girlfriends who are helping me scout film locations. Since it is my birthday month my gal pals have been treating me to some really neat foody paradise treats for April while we run around collecting eye candy. South Mexican Flan with Strawberries is a must have desert and I enjoyed my visit to this wonderful little hole in the wall in Park Slope, Brooklyn to get some. I also sampled something new that I think you may want to try. They do f...

Reverse mortgages are a popular option for homeowners who are 62 years of age and older and need additional income.  Credit scores and income are not part of the qualification process for a reverse mortgage, so they’re fairly easy to get. But is a reverse mortgage right for you, your parents or grandparents?  Here are some pros and cons to consider before making your decision: Pros of getting a reverse mortgage on your Brooklyn New York real estate When you get a reverse mortgage, you can: Use the money to supplement social security, pay for home improvements or meet unexpected medical bills. Choose the payment method you prefer:  monthly payment, line of credit or lump sum. Make no payments on the loan (monthly or otherwise) unless you die, move or sell the home.  If any of those even...

Have you ever heard of the 203k rehab loans offered through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA)?  If you’re rehabbing Brooklyn New York homes, it might be just the loan you need.   What is a 203(k) Loan? The FHA developed the 203(k) program to help revitalize homes throughout the country.  This program provides insured loans that can be used to rehab, rebuild or modernize existing Brooklyn New York homes.  What are the Benefits of a 203(k) Loan? This is a one-stop loan, which means one loan finances both the purchase and rehabilitation of your property.  The mortgage amount is based on the projected value of the property after the work has been completed.  The mortgage takes into account the cost of the rehab including labor charges, permits, drawings, etc.  The mortgage can't ex...

Gravesend Brooklyn     Located in the south-central section of Brooklyn, Gravesend was one of the original towns in the Dutch colony of New Netherland and became one of the original six towns of Kings County in colonial New York. The roots of this beautiful waterfront neighborhood are steeped in the history of New York itself.  It is one of the earliest planned communities in America.   That history remains today. There are many historical homes still standing, dating back to the 1600 and 1700s, as well as the Old Gravesend Cemetery and Van Sicklen Cemetery, where original settler Lady Moody is buried.   It’s close proximity to Coney Island meant a brief time as a recreation and gaming center in the 1950s but the closing of popular race tracks helped Gravesend relax back into being a ...

Living in Dyker Heights, New York   When your nickname is the "Handsomest Suburb in Greater New York" you have something to live up to! And Dyker Heights, located in the southwest corner of Brooklyn, does just that. A beautiful mixture of stunning homes, gracious parks and well-appointed businesses make this suburb an absolute delight.    Too sloped to be used as farmland, Dyker Heights was developed early on as a neighborhood for luxury homes and fine living. In the late 1800s, the Johnson family began developing the area with beautiful homes situated to take advantage of the spectacular views. They realized that improvements would have to be made while not sacrificing the woodland setting; over time they extended the limited street grid, made way for telephone and electrical lines and...
