I look forward to the Fall Foliage near the Richard B Fisher Center on Bard College campus each year.  Designed by the well known architect Frank Gehry the style of the center is referred to as Deconstructivism.   A term many are not familiar with, it is described by Wikipedia as  "a postmodern architectural movement which appeared in the 1980s.  It gives the impression of the fragmentation of the constructed building commonly characterized by an absence of obvious harmony, continuity, or symmetry. Ward Manor Ward Manor is a series of 19th century buildings visible from The Fisher Center at Bard College.  I was on the Campus and was struck by the Fall Foliage in front of the building. Ward Manor has had many usage throughout the years  and I had the opportunity to attend a very special wedding here. This Hudson River view  is from the grounds at Blythewood in the area known as Annandale-On-Hudson. Where is Annandale -On-Hudson?  You could say it is Bard College.  This area is located in the town of Red Hook and comes with its own zipcode 12504. Annandale runs along the Hudson River and that is why it is possible to get spectacular views of the Hudson River and Catskills.       12/01/2012

Back in 2008 I wrote about this tree on Bard's Campus and the fight for life. I am happy to say it is still standing after all these years,although it seem to be getting smaller.There is a lesson here, no matter how tough things get the key is to never give up, there is so much more to life; and yes hiccups will get in the way. This Stunning Gatehouse is the Ward Manor located on the Bard Campus just down the road from the Fisher Center.  On this campus you will find very old structure, and then ultra modern ones. I have always gone by the Ward Manor Gatehouse during the day, so it was nice to get a shot when there were lights on just after sunset.   09/15/2012

Okay so I am a proud mama.  A week ago my son Jonathan graduated from Bard College with a major in mathematics. Because of the existing economic climate this crop of college graduates could be facing a tough time however I suspect this could be a character building period.  A time when things are not just handed to you, and more decision making will go into the choices made. So congratulations and best wishes to all you 2010 graduates and best wishes with finding a job. And Jonathan one last instruction put that math degree to good use! Bard College  the Annandale-on-Hudson Community in Red Hook NY  The private liberal arts college, Bard is located in the Annandale-On-Hudson community in the town of Red Hook, NY.  Bard was originally founded in 1860 and was then known as St. Stephens College. The college's  history is well documented and does make a good read.  This Annandale-on-Hudson community is a very interesting place, however this blog post will concentrate on the impact it has on the entire Red Hook Community.  I consider Red Hook more of a bedroom community since most of the residents have to go some place else for work.  The economic impact of Bard on the Red Hook community is great.  I would consider Bard along with the Red Hook School District the largest employers in town.  The contribution made is more tha... 03/31/2010

In my last post I took you for a ride on River Road to the point where it becomes Annandale -On -Hudson. Annandale- On -Hudson is a hamlet in the town of Red Hook and it has its own zip-code 12504 and post office housed on the Bard Campus. On the way, you will go by a well known historic site Montgomery Place with it's beautiful gardens and a working farm. You will also pass some old buildings that have been restored, then you will start seeing buildings on the Bard  College Campus. Noteworthy sites include the gatehouse, Parliament of reality, Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and Ward Manor. At CSS Bard there will be an opening reception of The Greenroom Reconsidering the Documentary And Contemporary Art which will run from September 27th 2008 - February 1, 2009. The opening reception will start at 1:00 PM this Saturday and will feature a lecture by Hito Steyerl entitled " Documentary Uncertainty". A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the oldest tree on Bard Campus that just wouldn't  die, and is admired by many.  On the way to the tree you will pass the Bard Community garden. What is the Community Garden? It is a garden from which the community at large can share in the produce, the only requirement is that you volunteer some time to help with the upkeep. To make maintaining the garden fun, each Wednesday between 4PM and 6PM  after weeding, the volunteers share a meal together.  This is a great way for the regular community to get to know members of the Bard community. The day I was there I met Sascha who does the organizing of this weekly event.  She was busy weeding and was happy to tell me about the various plants, which were of interest to me as I love gardening.  We chatted f... 08/11/2008

I love to take a walk now and then on the grounds of Bard college.  One of my favorite spots is the manicured lawn and gardens of the Levy Economic Institute.  Blithewood was another lovely Hudson Valley Mansion with great views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains.   s This post however is not about this ideal setting, but rather about a tree that seems so out of place but you can't help but love it. From the plaque erected in front of the tree it is believed that this tree has been around 350 years and is most likely the oldest tree on the campus. Take a look and you will see just what I mean. This was the home of Janet Livingston Montgomery a member of one of the largest land owning families of the time.  Alexander Jackson Davis a well known architect of the time was responsible for the design. Montgomery Place  was constructed in 1805 on 434 beautiful acres with views of the Hudson River and Catskills Mountains.   The beautiful grounds showcase lovely roses and herb gardens as well as an orchard.  Just the other day I took a leisurely walk on the grounds, enjoyed the great views, the beautiful hemlock trees, walked down a long path until I ended up at a great waterfall that Montgomery Place shares with Bard College.  When you complete your tour besides getting a gift at the gift shops, you can also pick up other gift items as well as fresh produce at Montgomery Place Farm ... 07/13/2008

Today was an entire day of celebration of the opening of the Gabrielle H. Reem and Herbert J. Kayden Center for Science and Computation at Bard College at Annadale on Hudson. Although most people will think of Bard for its Liberal Arts program the college does have a significant science department.  Many students have received their pre-medical training here. Others have pursued studies in environmental studies and computer science. The day was filled with hands-on workshops such as: How biodiversity can protect health, Mobile robots, and Complex traits: The new Genetic Paradigm.
