My Pesky Buyers in Salem Oregon found just the right home here in Sun City Mesquite NV and went home to pack and move.  Little did Marilyn and Art know that they had a treasure in their new backyard.  The Giant Argentine Pipe Cactus is common in the Mesquite desert landscape - it grows well in the desert in Nevada, Arizona and Utah.  But their cactus had 46 buds growing as we were getting ready to close escrow.  The seller had moved out a few weeks ago, and I kept going over to the house to check on the cactus, and take pictures of the blooms to show the new owners when they arrived. No, that is not it.  Mesquite weather is beautiful and I wish you were here.  That's better.  I better quit listening to Jimmy Buffet, I guess.  We had a cold winter ... more than 7 inches of rain already - that is about 3 inches more than our annual average in Mesquite.  Spring has sprung and I will be out taking shots of the cactus blooms. Visits to my mother in law in Sun City Mesquite always include a stop at one of the 55+ active adult community fabulous parks or walking trails.  My dog, ActiveMikey insists upon it.  :)  He loves the lawns and barks at the cactus trees.  Most of the parks in Sun City are pet friendly with benches and dog waste stations.  Not like they have restrooms for dogs - you have to pick it up with a bag and throw it away, but they provide the bags.  :) Yesterday morning we awoke to snow on the mountains surrounding Mesquite, and some Wizard of OZ looking weather on the horizon - yet the golfers were out in the clear but crisp Mesquite weather.  55 degrees. New Year's Eve lunch at the Home Plate diner in Mesquite - - I met Arlene in 2007 - she and her husband Windy were looking for a new home.  We spent some time together and found just the right home for them.  During that process, we became good friends.  Later we discovered that we share the same birthday!  But we are both very busy and haven't been able to get together much this year.  Finally we met this afternoon for lunch. Sun City Mesquite representatives called the Mesquite Veterans Center and asked how they could help with Veteran's Day 2010 in Mesquite.  And their contribution did not end with a Float featuring "The Andrews Sisters" in the Nov 6 Veteran's Day Parade.  Sun City Mesquite donated all proceeds from their 2010 Party 4 Life Benefit to the new Mesquite Veterans Center - quite a contribution - over $32,000! Residents of this popular 55 + active adult community stepped up and joined employees to build the first Sun City Veteran's Day Float and then volunteered all weekend for the Party 4 Life event held at the Pioneer Recreation Center. Pet Friendly Hafen Trailside Park in Mesquite NV is known locally as the Dog Park and it has a fishing pond, too.  On Nov 23, the Nevada Dept of Wildlife is scheduled to deliver 150 lbs of rainbow trout to Hafen Pond - local residents enjoy fishing in this park, but those trout won't last long! Many of the older neighborhoods in Mesquite NV do not have Home Owner Associations - NO HOA fees.  That is one more monthly bill that you do not have to pay for the privilege of homeownership.  The bad news is that you either have to pay someone to maintain the outside of your home ..... or do it yourself.  There is no Homeowner Association to take care of the yardwork.  So get out those gloves!   Some of our beautiful yards in the Santa Fe Vistas neighborhood in Mesquite have lovely palm trees that may grow as high as 30 feet. The Good News: Lovely to look at, especially with a light breeze fluffing the fronds (froms?) way up in the sky.
