Mesquite NV - Fruits and Vegetables Grow in the Desert - One of my Mesquite MLS listings has a huge backyard, over 1/3 acre.  In this small town, that is a very big lot.  I had taken pictures of the lush landscaping and mature trees make this yard so inviting.  Only recently did I actually walk back to the far corner of this custom home for sale - wow!  Produce! Yes, there are now rentals in Sun City Mesquite 55 + Golf Course Community.  There are no townhomes in Sun City - all homes are one level single family homes.  The Homeowner Association CCRs require a minimum 6 month lease for an owner to rent out their home.   Each homeowner gets 2 passes to use the recreation facilities that are included in the HOA fee of $120 per month. The Sun City Mesquite passes are for residents only, the owner would transfer them to the tenants.  Additional passes are available if another person lives with you, or for guests who visit and want to use the recreation facilities.  Another privilege is the use of Sun City Mesquite Parks and Walking Trails. Mesquite NV Garage Door Local Service - Repair or replace or maintenance.One night, at about 4:00, we woke up abruptly because of a huge sonic boom that shook the whole house.  Or so we thought.  It was actually the spring on the garage door suddenly breaking.  Scary loud.  Once we figured out what the noise was, we were relieved - until the next morning, when I realized that we could not even open the garage door manually.  Kind of hard to go to work showing homes with my car stuck in the garage.I called my usual Mesquite home repair guy, Shane McCoy, who gave me Mesquite Garage Door Service's number.  Shane said, 'they will take good care of you.'  And they did - I called them, he brought a new spring with him and had me out and about in a very short time.Eric Lloyd is the local Mesqu... 05/19/2011

Another Mesquite MLS Listing Sold in Sunset Greens Gated Golfcourse Community - One of the nicest neighborhoods in Mesquite.  It was a very well maintained, updated townhome in a great part of the subdivision, with great views.  The sellers expected to sign a listing agreement for 6 months - I told them that if I couldn't sell it in 3 months, that we would need to have a little talk. I was showing a foreclosure property in Mesquite today - right on the Palmer Golf Course in the Ironwood subdivision.  The home has a gorgeous southern view of the mountains over the course.  As I was taking a few pictures for my huge collection, I noticed some small movements as I took some shots.  I thought it was birds or ducks.  When I stepped back into the home from the back patio, I glanced back through the window.  Four little kids were running around - playing hide and seek.  A hilly golf course in Mesquite is a great place to play - little mountains, huge rocks, bushes and trees - and even sandboxes.  I was watching them through the window and they were having a really good time.  The little kid with the blue shoes was fast ... kept diving over the little hills. My clients live in Italy and are missing the gorgeous cactus blooms in their front yard - a few months ago, they bought a home in a Mesquite neighborhood with No HOA fees.  I stopped by today to take a few pictures of their trees and landscaping - they are probably wondering how their home in Mesquite is doing while they are away.  I was delighted to find several cactus blooming.  This one will continue to bloom for a week or so - there are quite a few flower buds getting ready to open. Ocotillo plants are blooming all over Nevada - these two are in Sun City Mesquite and seem to be hiding among the thicker trees and bushes.  Pretending to be a cactus.  Fooled me - I thought they were cactus, or cacti - until I looked them up on Wikipedia and found out that they are Fouquieria splendens Engelm, which is a plant.  Just another plant.Without the flowers blooming, they look like very large spiders standing on their heads - hence, the rumor that these plants were left here centuries ago by aliens.  Why they were left here .... who knows?  I am sure that the aliens have a very good reason.  I am also sure that we will find out as soon as it is too late to do anything about it.These plants can survive on only 8 inches of rain per year, which is just about our annual average. ... 05/09/2011

Smith's Grocery Store in Mesquite NV - I always look at the front of my receipt to see what I paid - and did I get my Smith's discount?  And then I make sure that it does not have any tax deductable items on it before I throw it away.  I had lived in Mesquite for several months before I noticed the coupons on the back of the receipt.  Actually, somone told me.     This is one of the things that I tell my buyers from out of the area - they might miss the coupons like I did. Flip it over and look on the back.  You never know what you are going to get! Appraisals on my last 3 transactions were very encouraging.  Is the Mesquite Real Estate Market starting to bottom out?  Real estate is local - right down to the neighborhood.  All 3 listings were priced well, right about where they should have been, in 3 different neighborhoods. The appraisals were done by 3 different appraisal companies.  On 2 of them, short sales and foreclosures were used as comps.  The 3rd home is in a neighborhood with very few distressed properties. All 3 appraisals came in at above the agreed upon sales price in the contract.  2 appraisers noted in their comments that the Mesquite real estate market, while previously declining in 2010, has begun to stabilize in the first quarter of 2011. Sun City Mesquite 55 + CommunitySun City Mesquite is a 55 + Age Restricted Community for Active Adults.    Scattered thoughout the communities in Sun City are different pet friendly parks connected by walking paths and trails.  Each neighborhood in the development has a park, and there are several larger parks outside the individual neighborhoods. My dog Mikey loved to go to pet friendly Hafen Park in Mesquite NV - not for the views of the lake and mountains, that is what I like about the park.  Mikey loved to play with other dogs.  His favorite dog was little Bella - I think she weighed in at about 4 pounds.  Mikey was madly in love with her.  Unfortunately, for Mikey and the other boys, Bella is everybody‘s favorite.  And she knows it - she is the Queen of Hafen Park. The Mesquite NV Rental Real Estate Market seems to be picking up - At the end of last year, rentals were sitting vacant for months at a time.  Now townhomes and single family rentals are getting a little harder to find and the prices have been going up.  As more homeowners have lost homes to foreclosure or short sale, there are more people who will be renting for a few years, while they rebuild their credit and save for a down payment. Even though there are quite a few people who have chosen to take their home off the market and place it into the rental market, this does not seem to be affecting the rental availability in Mesquite.  This may change as more home owners are unable to sell their home at their desired or needed price and put the home up for rent. Conestoga Golf CourseMy husband, Rich, played the Conestoga Golf Course in Sun City Mesquite with his friend, Shawn Reber.  They loved playing the course and were very impressed with the driving range, naming it the Best of any of the facilities of the many golf courses in Mesquite. The driving range at the Conestoga Golf Club in Mesquite NV is laid out like a big green bowling alley, and very well maintained, the way the grass is cut in straight lines on a fairly level field makes it easy to see how the ball is getting to the pin you are aiming for.  You can easily see where the ball is going and how it is getting there as you practice a hook or a slice.  Practice, practice, practice! Marilyn Redd Park on the north side of Mesquite NV - lovely park to take a picnic for one or for the whole family.  Pets are welcome on a leash, the dog friendly walking path surrounds the park.  It is about 1/3 of a mile around the park path - 3 trips around and you have walked a mile on the hilly terrain. The volleyball court is right by the large pavillion - if you are not a player, at least you can have lunch at the tables and watch a brisk game.  The covered pavillions at Marilyn Redd Park are available for parties and barbecues - if you want one all to yourself, just make a reservation with the Mesquite City Parks Department - you just have to clean up your own mess!
