The new St George, Utah airport has been open for over a year now - much closer to Mesquite NV than McCarran Airport in Las Vegas.  Most flights are to Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, but that means that you can fly anywhere with a connecting flight - good news for Canadians, too.   Both Delta and United have flights operated by Skywest. Driving to the airport from Mesquite is pretty easy - right through the Arizona gorge, and take a right just before you get to St George.  The first time you go, after you get off Highway 15, it seems kind of odd, like you are heading to the middle of nowhere.  Actually, you are - the airport is by itself, off in the bluffs.  Beautiful scenery on the way and only about 45 minutes from Mesquite. One of my favorite things to do is to take I-15 north, get off at Beaver Dam-Littlefield exit.  Take a drive on old Highway 91, then left through the Shivwits Paiute Reservation to the reservoir at Gunlock State Park, about a 45 minute drive from Mesquite.  I actually stumbled upon this great little lake when I took a wrong turn while looking for the Kayenta subdivision on the way to Santa Clara, Utah.  The scenery is absolutely beautiful, no matter what time of year it is.  Great place to get some sun, go fishing, camping or just sit around and enjoy the view. The lake is pretty high right now, submerged trees and bushes.  I was waiting for the sun to set and get a great shot, when a kayak appeared and set out across the lake.  What a great way to end the day - for me and for him! Every year at Christmas, the Eureka Casino in Mesquite NV throws a party for their employees and their guests.  Employees can bring their whole family and it is a great time - great for the kids who get to see Santa and get a nice gift, as well as enjoy the good food and drink - all provided by the Eureka Casino.  Great for mom and dad, too - they get to enjoy themselves and not cook or clean up the mess. Ence Homes Mesquite NVNew Ence homes in the Trailside subdivision in Mesquite NV - finished early and the buyers have already moved in, with a lot of help from their new neighbors.  Quite a few people showed up to help unload the truck and the whole thing only took about 1/2 hour.  Is that a record for a quick move in? Randy, Mary and their son, Matt came from South Dakota looking for an existing home, but we couldn't find just the right house with a swimming pool.  Most folks assume that we have lots of pools here, but that just isn't so.  Then we looked for homes with a pool-sized lot - we do have some of those here.  But we still could not find a house that they really liked. Mesquite NV Halloween Trunk or Treat - Monday Night Oct 31 Pretty scary! Mesquite Police Department will be blocking off Yucca Street next to City Hall on Monday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm for the fourth annual Mesquite Trunk or Treat party.  Local businesses and residents have volunteered donations, as well as their time to pass out Halloween candy to all the "little monsters" who attend. With so many gated communities and second homes in Mesquite, not all neighborhoods here are ghost and goblin friendly.  Many of our snowbirds haven't arrived for the winter yet. Mesquite's Trunk or Treat is a great way for kids to celebrate my favorite holiday in a fun and safe place. Another Mesquite Nevada custom home sold in 30 days - the good ones go quick!  This home was in one of the higher price ranges of MLS listings here, they do not get as many showings as the lower priced homes in our area.  Yet the higher end homes that were previously on the market for a long time are starting to sell.  Could be a sign of the real estate recovery in several neighborhoods in Mesquite. Buyers are looking at homes online and coming to Mesquite with a list of homes to see, only to find that many of them are already pending sales when they get here. Glad it sold quickly, but I am a little disappointed that I did not get to go over and help myself to some of the figs and grapes that were about to be ripe for the picking. Mass media is full of bad news about the real estate market.  It seems like 99 % of national news focuses on bad news.  Foreclosure stories, short sale numbers, gloom and doom stories can be very interesting.  And the stories that are being spotlighted in the news are mostly true.  But they do not tell the whole story.  Real estate is local - right down to the neighborhood. There are many neighborhoods in many cities that have bottomed out - including some neighborhoods in Mesquite NV - my town.  In those neighborhoods, now is a good time to buy.  Smart buyers should be watching neighborhoods where they might like to live, not watching national real estate news. Mesquite is a pet friendly place - People asking about relocation to Mesquite NV might ask if their pets will be welcome, too.  If you are thinking of buying a home, all subdivisions allow pets, subject to restrictions on rental property.  If you are thinking of renting a home, the owner may or may not allow pets.  If pets are allowed in rentals, there will usually be a pet deposit or a slight increase in rent. Mesquite NV Home Inspections - the Inspector will show you what the homeowner may not even know about his house.  You may think you are pretty handy around the house, but you may not know about local code, recent local issues in a neighborhood, or even if a drain is clogged or just slow.  Best to get a home inspection - it costs several hundred $$, but worth every dime. Sun City Mesquite 55 + Community has the best bocce ball court in Mesquite - one of the many activities offered to residents at their Pioneer Recreation Center.  You can bring your own bocce balls or use one of the sets that the Rec Center provides for residents.  I thought that Bocce was a game, but is considered a sport by those who play it.  :) According to BocceBallRules.net - "Bocce is without a doubt one of the most exciting and enjoyable sports."  I have not played it yet, myself, but I am certainly looking forward to my first game.  I don't think I will need a lesson, just some practice if I want to win - like all sports, right?  I have watched some play and it really does look like fun.
