Boulder City, Nevada is located about 10 minutes from The Lake Mead National Recreation Area were sailing is very popular. One of my passions is sailing. Lake Mead in Boulder City, Nevada has about 250 miles of shore line. It is over 1200 feet deep in some places. It is also a great place to let the wind hit your face as you cruise along trying to keep up with the changing wind direction. As a beginner you are not alone. Every Wednesday night sailors have an event called, "Wet Wednesdays". Sailboats and crews leave the dock around 6PM and return about 9:30PM. You don't have to be experienced to take part in the fun on Lake Mead in Boulder City, Nevada Captains almost always could use more crew members. If you are new and don't know much about sailing, you can always just sit back, rel...

For those of us who think it is too hot in Boulder City today, here is a photo taken last winter when some people thought it was too cold in Boulder City. A woman in our Lake Mead Area Realty Office made the comment during the day that she would like it to snow. Later on it did, big time. The road between Railroad Pass Casino and Boulder City was closed because of the road conditions. I just made it out of Boulder City when the road was closed. My dog was fascinated by the snow and couldn't stop staring out the window at it. So, even though it is hot in Boulder City right now, remember winter is around the corner, somewhat. Although snow is rare in Boulder City, Nevada, last year proved different. I have lived here for twelve years and this is the second time it snowed. The first ti...

What a unique Las Vegas experience - a DIVE IN THE DESERT at Lake Mead!! Beat the summer heat, explore the fish and ruins in Lake Mead and DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!  While you are there, visit Hoover Dam (if you haven't already) and then stick around for a dinner cruise on a different charter!  Another unique vacation idea would also involve renting a houseboat - I wonder if Captain Tim would be available to cruise you around one one of those?!?!? Make a day of it and don't forget your sunscreen and water! Diving is something I never even dreamed of exploring but Captain Tim (and his Lovely Wife Laura) are trying to push me into the deep end!  Remember to always support local small businesses wherever you may be vacationing this summer!  They are the lifeblood of every community!

Vegas Bob takes Helicopter Ride from Boulder City over Lake Mead - Nevada.  Easter Sunday I took a Helicopter ride with my wife Nu Nu, my brother and his wife over Lake Mead. It was very exciting and the views were very beautiful.  The photo (above) is the Helicopter that we went up in and the photo (below) is Boulder City. If you look real close at the long straight rode you can see all the cars backed up driving east to cross the Hoover Dam into Arizona.     The photo (below) is a huge Marina on Lake Mead, around the corner to the left of these dark brown mountains is Hoover Dam.  The photo (below) is another shot of the Marina looking straight down from the Helicopter.  The photo (below) is Vegas Bob headed back home to Las Vegas, Boulder City is only 45 minutes from "The Las Vegas...

On my visit to Boulder City Nevada several weeks ago I was able to capture some different statues that I found to be very interesting. Boulder City is around 30 minutes from Las Vegas Blvd and is a fun, quiet, interesting city. Boulder City is the last city before the Hoover Dam before Lake Mead and was built by the Federal Government.  The two photographs (above) are Eagles and the photo (below) is a boy and little girl riding on the back of a tricycle.  Below is another photo of the little girl showing the detail in her face.  The photo below is of a fairy.                                             And the last photo at the bottom is of a little girl jumping on a ball.                   Photographs above taken by: Robert Swetz (Vegas Bob): duplicating in any form is in violation o...

Last weekend on my visit to Boulder City we ran into some Antique stores that really had some wonderful things in them.  I have always liked Antiques and the Character that comes with them. The great expression could be used when looking at Antiques .......... "They don't make them like they use too!"  I have captured some very wonderful looking Dolls & Figures and I hope you like them as much as I do!  And if you ever come to visit Las Vegas and want to look at a cute small town with Antique stores and quaint restaurants, take a drive to Boulder City. It's only 40 minutes from Las Vegas.  This is a cute family in the photo above!  The photo above was taken through a window with palm trees reflecting in the glass!  The photo above and below were also taken through windows of some Anti...

When ever I ask some one that comes to visit Las Vegas if they would ever like to live here, they always say ....... " I love to visit but would never want to live in Las Vegas! "  One of the reasons is because they don't like all the billboards and sex related material, and that they don't want their children around it.  Another reason is because of the gambling and hot weather.  My brother is thinking of moving here because the long cold winters in Minnesota are really tearing up his body and he is just plain sick of it. The main reason I moved out of the Midwest is because I was sick of the long cold winters and I had lived in Oregon for around 5 years and I knew there are places where it's warmer.  So my brother, sister in-law and three young children are coming for a visit in Apri...

The Austin Bantam Society is having its 40th annual trophy meet October 8th through the 11th in beautiful Boulder City, Nevada. These little cars were America's first economy car. The company also invented the Jeep. There will be a car show at Wilbur Square this Saturday, October 11th (My father in-law will have his car out there on display). Heading south on 93/95 from Las Vegas you go through part of Henderson. The road takes you through the historic Railroad Pass, and by the casino of the same name that has the longest continuously operating gaming license. What you come to next is that dam little town.....literally. It's Boulder City, named after what was the original name for Hoover Dam in Boulder Canyon.   The dam little town is only "little" in population, and by choice. Currently there are about 16,000 living there and only 120 building permits issued each year to maintain strict growth controls. Even new hotels are limited to 35 rooms. Yet in land area, Boulder City is the largest city in NV., and 35th largest in the US. Recently some of it's vast land through the Eldorado Valley was used for the new 64 MW solar pow...

The sleepy little town of Boulder City is shedding that image in favor of a more hip, artsy place to live. Boulder City has spent a considerable amount of money making improvements to the downtown area, including information about the history of the town and featuring local artists and their work. There are few choices when it comes to brand new homes due to the strict growth policy, but they are still available in two communities, Tuscan Retreat and Lake Mead View Estates. There are also some recently completed neighborhoods like Bella Vista plus some very well maintained older neighborhoods with views of the lake like Regatta Pointe and Key Largo. All of these communities are located off of US 93 heading towards Lake Mead.If you are looking for a home more centrally located in Boulder ...

Mark your calendars!  The first full weekend in October is our annual Art in the Park.  Over 100,000 visitors will come to visit our fund-raiser for the Hospital.  The dates this year will be October 6 and 7.  Come early (by 9 am) if you want to park uptown and walk to the parks.  Or park at the edge of town (follow the signs) and ride the shuttle-bus.  Be prepared with a hat and drinking water, especially if you're taking the shuttle.  The fun only goes until 5 pm, so don't be late! Food abounds at the festival.  The central walkway takes over Colorado Street for vendors selling roasted corn, Chinese food, BBQ, sodas, etc.   Tables and benches, and grass, are fine seats.  Or walk one block to our local restaurants, such as Chiarelli's Deli (my favorite, the cleanest restaurant you ever...
