Scottish Tartans: Cape Breton Tartan Fine Things Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia Nova Scotia is named after Scotland and of course the Scottish Tartans are very popular there. Dave Yonkers' Scottish heritage on his mother's side draws his attention to all things Scottish especially tartans and bagpipes. Dave & I wondered off the cruise ship in Sydney, Nova Scotia and saw a sign directing us to a craft show off the main street where we met  the owners of Cape Breton Tartan Fine Things, two absolutely delightful people who specialize in placemats and Tartans, kilts, blankets, coasters, napkins, tablecloths, caps # #   We can't wait to take our coasters to the Kerr reunion next summer, We will pass the word about  Cape Breton Tartan Fine Things as the source of all things Scottish. www.cap...

What is a Nova Scotia Lifestyle Business? According to Wikipedia, “a lifestyle business is a business that is set up and run by its founders primarily with the aim of sustaining a particular level of income and no more; or to provide a foundation from which to enjoy a particular lifestyle”. In Nova Scotia, these businesses are often family run, and/or tourism related.  Also, creative endeavors are able to be grown by an individual, and “typically have limited scalability and potential for growth because such growth would destroy the lifestyle for which their owner-managers set them up. While vacationing in Cape Breton Island Canada, I came across a Friday night music fest in a nearby barn.  The "ceilidh"  (Gaelic) pronounced "KAY LEE" is a Cape Breton tradition. Fiddlers, guitar players, piano players gather for hours and hours of great song and danc Most of Cape Breton was settled by Scotts and this folk tradition is alive and well.  I think every man woman and child in Cape Breton must play some sort of instrument, including the spoons!
