I represent taxpayers in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey. I have noticed that even if you are relying on your clients to issue 1099 forms, it is a good idea to add up your income on your own. Keep in mind not all clients may issue 1099s, and the ones that do could report inaccurate or incomplete figures, and by adding it up on your own you will be able to catch these problems early, while replacement forms can still be issued. Keep in mind that adding up your income on a monthly basis will help you prepare for estimated tax payment if you are going to end up owing money to IRS. Adding up your income will also serve a number of other purposes, each important to your timely tax filing and the maximizing of your hoped-for refund. For one thing, knowing how much you earned will allo...

I represent taxpayers in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey who owe back tax debt. I have noticed that one of the biggest stories in the world of business is the growing shift toward self-employment. An ever-increasing number of men and women are saying goodbye to their colleagues, their cubicles, and their corporate overlords, choosing instead to make their own way in life.If you are one of these self-employed individuals or a new member of the gig economy, tax filing season could be more complicated than you think. Instead of merely plugging in the numbers from your W2, you will need to gather multiple forms, crunch the numbers, seek out deductions and look for solutions to tax problems you did not even know existed.Faced with those difficulties, you will want to start your tax p...

I represent taxpayers who owe back taxes in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey. So, you have received a letter (notice) from IRS stating you have a tax balance due, what do you do? What are some ideas that could possibly come to mind?IRS thinks you owe them money, what went wrong? First of all, maybe IRS have filed your taxes for you, maybe you have filed your taxes but it was selected for an audit or maybe you have forgotten to report you w2 or 1099 on the your tax return when you filed. Or you have filed on time, but you just owe back taxes to IRS.What can you do to resolve this back tax debt. If your tax return was selected for an audit, you request audit reconsideration. If you have filed and owe back taxes, you can do an offer in compromise, installment agreement or currently n...

I wanted to write this blog informing taxpayers about how getting into tax compliance is key to any resolution of owing back tax debt. Getting into any resolution with the IRS, you must prove to them that you are in tax compliance. Meaning that all your tax returns have been filled and you are making current tax payments properly. If IRS is going to work out a deal, they want to make sure your current year is being maintain. So, what does it really mean to get into tax compliance? All tax returns due are filed, if you are an employee then sufficient taxes are withheld from your paychecks to cover the tax bill at the end of the year. If you are self-employed, you must make sure your estimated tax payments are made each quarter as required. If you own a business, your payroll taxes are dep...

I represent taxpayer who owe back taxes in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey. So, I have noticed that most taxpayers do not understand how the IRS Collection Process works. When a tax return is filed either by the taxpayer or the IRS on their behalf, tax is assessed. Then IRS billing notices or demand for payment begins. When a taxpayer ignores the billing notices, IRS filed a silence tax lien against the taxpayer’s asset(s). Still at this point most taxpayers do not understand that the IRS collection have started. If a taxpayer owes $10,000 or more, IRS will publicly file a notice of federal tax lien on the taxpayers’ asset(s) in the county they reside. If a taxpayer does not own an asset(s) but they work as an employee, IRS will send out a final notice with an intent to levy thei...

I represent taxpayers with IRS or state back taxes in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey. How does the notice of deficiency come about? Well, one way could be an audit; after you file a tax return, and you get audited. The auditor will send you letter stating they will be examining your tax return and give you a list of documents they want to see. After they do the examination, you will normally get a report of all the changes and proposed adjustments. If you disagree with the report, you have 30 days to say why you disagree with them and request an appeal hearing. So, when does the notice of deficiency come into play? So normally, when the proposed letter comes out you may be asked to extend your time for assessment. If you disagree, that is when a 90 day letter stating “If you want...

I represent taxpayers in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey who have back tax debt.  I am amazed by how many taxpayers who have not filed their tax returns for many years. Taxpayers need to understand that in fact, the non-filer issue is a major priority for the IRS. IRS have stated in public that they have identified more than seven Million taxpayers who have not filed their tax returns and IRS intends to pursue the non-filers.When you think about it, is it worth knowing that when you decide not to file your tax return is a federal tax crime under the Internal Revenue Code’s Section 7203?So, what are your options as a non-filer and how can we help them get their tax return issue resolved with the IRS? It depends on why the taxpayer failed to file their tax return in the first plac...

I represent taxpayers in Mount Laurel and the rest of New Jersey who owe back tax debt. And lately there have been a lot of IRS Tax Lien Problems.  When you have a tax lien, you worry about many things like am I able to sale my house, but I can’t. Yes, you can! How do you deal with tax lien? Well, the options are discharge, subordination, withdrawal, etc..Just for clarity, you do not discharge a lien. You discharge an asset from under a tax lien. A tax lien is like an umbrella over an asset. When you want to discharge a tax lien, you are basically asking IRS to let you take your house out from the umbrella and sell it. The point of the tax lien is to protect IRS’s interest, IRS interest is your equity in the property.  A subordination is when you ask IRS to allow another creditor which ...

Setting the Stage To Sell Your Home With all of the competition on the real estate market you REALLY NEED FOR YOUR HOME TO STAND OUT!So let's talk about some ways to do that. Above all else you need to set a realistic price that will make the buyers want to see your home. Realistic and strategic pricing is key to enticing buyers to consider your property in the first place.  If the price is too high it just may scare them away. Once price is set we need to set the stage. As a seller you need to do two things: 1. Stop thinking of your house as a home. It is now an investment and you want the highest rate of return. 2.   Real Estate For Relay       For over the last 8 years I have been involved in The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Medford, NJ. I started out just walking the track then became a team captain and finally over the last few years a planning committee member. As a caregiver and someone who has lost loved ones to cancer I have witnessed firsthand just how wonderful a job the American Cancer Society does. Not only do they do a great deal of research but they have many terrific programs right here in our community and that is why I initiated my Real Estate For Relay Program.  A portion of each dollar I earn goes to Relay For Life!

What cookies are you baking this year? I bake the traditional Chocolate Chip, Spritz, Sugar, Coconut Macaroons, Chocolate Mint Crinkles and The Cream Cheese Frills (recipe below). Let me know what you are making and share the recipe.          Cream Cheese Frills This is a recipe that my Grandmother made every year. When she hit her late 80's she taught me how to make them as it was a little harder for her to do them. She has been gone 12 years and I still carry on the tradition.   1 cup butter 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups flour 1 cup oatmeal (quick) 8oz cream cheese raspberry preserves or jam (if you don't want the seeds)   Pre-heat oven to 450° Beat butter and vanilla until creamy. Add flour and oats mix well, add cream cheese beat until smooth – chill. Roll out dough until ¼” thick. Cu...
