Public Works Director Lawrence Werger reports one employee was who operates a front-end loader operator who experiencing increased hunger due to a new aroma in the public works yard. As part of the township's Green Initiative, Werger has launched a pilot program to reduce the township's fossil fuel consumption by mixing used cooking oil with diesel fuel to operate one of the department's eight front-end loaders. The use of cooking oil as a fuel supplement has reduced petroleum usage by 50% in the test equipment with a projected annual cost savings of $5,500 for the one machine. "In 1892, Rudolph Diesel introduced a compression ignition engine specifically designed to operate on vegetable oil. Instead of offering you the usual rundown of things a real estate agent typically gives as to why a particular community is a great place to live, I figure it's best to give you my list of why I liked living in Port Monmouth. I found living on the bay side of Port Monmouth had many advantages: Living just off Wilson Ave, I was on a quiet street.  The neighborhood was safe and friendly.  When the weather was good, you'd often find my neighbors and me, standing in the middle of the street talking till the sun went down.  It's just a short drive to the Spy House with its dock for fishing.  We always found friendly faces to chat with there. There's another park, which I've never learned the name for, at the end of Main Street.  I have never seen a crowd there, ever.  Even on the 4th of July...

The Middletown Twp. Library is hosting a series of poetry readings and open mic nights.  Come to listen and enjoy or even bring your own verses to read.  Now, I know few people would associate a real estate agent with poetry, but the two can and do mix.  I've been writing since I was a child.  So, stop in.  You might just see me there.  And, if I can muster up the courage, you might even here a poem or two of mine. The poetry readings and open mic will be on the following nights and will feature these poets: Thursday, October 30, 2008, 7:00 p.m.Karen Haefelein, Christine Waldeyer, and Priscilla OrrThursday, November 20, 2008, 7:00 p.m.Lois Harrod, Nancy Scott, Laura McCulloughThursday, December 18, 2008, 7:00 p.m.Gloria Healy, B.J. October 30, 2007Why not relocate to the Lincroft section of Middletown in Monmouth County and have fun with the family? Here's a photo of my neighbor C.J. who just scored the First Prize for Scary Scarecrow at the Thompson Park Halloween Festival. C.J. and his Dad concocted a scarecrow with the face of the Joker from Batman. With a wild, demonic smile. Creepy. Thompson Park is located at 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. The most devastating news about Thompson Park occured in February of 2006 when 110 year old Geraldine Thompson mansion burnt down during renovation. You can access the fire story at http://examiner.gmnews.com/news/2006/0209/Front_page/029.html Thinking of buying or selling real estate in Lincroft or Middletown? Call or email Andrew, Broker/Owner of his own company. I ha...

I have been working with a very nice couple from Staten Island that is looking for a sprawling ranch in Middletown. They must have at least 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, basement, gas heat, public sewer and water and a nice yard to accommodate a vegetable garden.  They love the neighborhoods of Oak Hill and Lincroft but would consider other areas of town.  I am sure Chapel Hill, River Plaza and New Monmouth would also work for them as long as they would be close to the Train Station, Route 35 and not too far from the Parkway.

Passing along some important information for people who are not aware of the new change with Private Mortgage Insurance. As of Jan 1, 2007, people planning to purchase a home will now to able to deduct Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) on their federal income tax returns. PMI generally is required by lenders whenever the down payment is less than 20 percent. This new tax break will make the dream of homeownership more attainable. It will make loans with private mortgage insurance more affordable. In some cases,it will enable buyers to qualify for a larger loan. Those buying with little or no money down typically weigh the financial pros and cons of a single loan carrying a PMI premium versus a piggyback ( a first and second mortgage ) or combo loan. Now that PMI is federally tax deductib...

The story of Middletown begins in 1609, when Henry Hudson (thus the Hudson River) landed his ship on the Bayshore to trade with Indians. The Dutch and Baptists seeking religious freedom were among the first settlers. By 1664, Middletown Township was established and permanent settlement began. The area quickly became a popular place for homesteaders. Middletown was the first town settled in Monmouth County and today at 41 square miles it's the largest township in the county. Each of its eleven distinct neighborhoods-River Plaza, Lincroft, Oak Hill, Fairview, Chapel Hill, New Monmouth, Port Monmouth, Belford, Leonardo, Navesink and Locust, has its own zip code and personality, providing a diverse range of living experiences.Middletown has the Garden State Parkway going through it and has c...
