Data released from the state Department of Education indicates a dramatic improvement in Brick's high school test scores between 2009 and 2010. The number of students who failed standardized tests in both language arts and math was cut in half at both Brick Township and Brick Memorial high schools. A failing score is described by the state education agency as “partially proficient.” Passing scores as divided into “proficient” and “advanced proficient” rankings. In 2009, Brick Township High School students failed standardized tests in language arts and math at a rate of 22.4 percent and 55.2 percent, respectively. Engineers are in the final design stage of a $250 million Garden State Parkway improvement project that is set to begin in 2012, officials announced Monday. Representatives from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority were in Brick on Monday, showing off their plans for a large-scale roadway improvement project that will increase shoulder width, remove obstructions, improve sight distance and reconstruct the roadway between mile markers 83 and 100 in both directions. The state will work with Ocean County officials to reconstruct three interchanges - 83, 88-89 and 91 - while also improving Route 70 and Burnt Tavern Rd. in Brick to better accommodate Parkway traffic. French's Landfill Site to Become Solar Farm Signaling the beginning of the end to one of Brick's most infamous environmental debacles, the township council voted Tuesday to enter an agreement with a developer to construct a solar farm on top of the French's Landfill site off Sally Ike Road. The landfill, a former Superfund site, operated between 1946 and 1973 as a community garbage dump owned by the Shoreland Corporation, according to township documents. In December 1973, the township bought the property and operated it until 1979, when officials closed the site and covered a portion of it with two feet of soil. Since January 2010 there have been 297 homes sold in Brick Township compared to last year's first half sales of 198 homes. People are still purchasing homes in our hometown. However that is the good news. The bad news is there are currently 645 homes on the market in Brick, signifying an absorption rate of 13.03 months of inventory. So, what that means is as a whole Brick Township is still experiencing a depreciating market. On a positive note we are better this year then last year when there was 19 plus months of inventory available. The best part of the fireworks in Brick are the multiple vantage points to view them, You can go to Windward Beach and catch them up close and personal, or you can be out on a boat on the Metedeconk River and watch them from there.
